LOGINThorne Matthews
"Why are you smelling like fried pig fat when you should be getting your wolf ready for the Moonfang Harvest House shift?" Ellis Johnson shifts the gears of his beat-up mechanical carriage, the metal rattling hard as we roll through the lower territory.
I lean my large head back against the seat, sighing deeply. "Sokka and Randall Kirkland were snarling at the breakfast table when I walked in. Randall was complaining about the burnt meat. You know Sokka cannot cook anything right unless it is boiled wild grass."
Ellis lets out a massive bark of laughter, nearly running us into a ditch. "Burnt meat? That is what started the growling? Randall better watch his throat, because Sokka will rip his fur out if he pushes too far."
"Oh, Sokka was ready to bite," I say, a small smirk moving my lips. "Told him if he did not like it, he could take his sorry rogue ass off our pack land. Randall told him he ought to hold him down and force him to eat it. Then Sokka told him he would be limping out of the Raven Hollow Pack Settlement forever if he tried it."
Ellis slaps the wooden steering wheel, cackling loud. "Randall needs to stop playing with a rabid wolf. Sokka is crazy. He really would make him limp."
"I left before the claws came out," I say, shaking my head. "I just do not get him. He takes that rogue back every time just to get more silver-dust and more fights."
Ellis rolls his eyes. "Thorne, you act like this is new. That is the thousandth time he took that pack trader back. Sokka just wants a dominant male around, even a bad one."
I give a small laugh, but my chest feels heavy. "Speaking of dominant males... Ellis Boyd sent a message to my communication crystal last night."
Ellis Johnson whips his head around so fast his neck cracks. "What? And you did not lead with that?"
"It was nothing great, trust me," I say, crossing my thick arms over my chest. "He asked what I was doing, then told me he just dropped off Trudy Bennett."
Ellis groans loudly. "Who cares about Trudy? I knew that fake little wolf was going to try and lock down his mate bond as soon as he got that Alpha Warrior Champion buzz."
"Exactly," I say, my voice dropping. "Then he asked if he should get serious with her. Said she wants a real pack bond now, but he does not get why because she has been curving his male attention since they were young pups."
Ellis lets out a sharp laugh. "I hope you told him hell no. She does not want his wolf; she wants the pack resources that come with the champion title. There is no Trudy without the capital gold."
"I told him to focus on his training and leave relationships alone," I say. "But he had to tell me she has great heat. I did not need to hear that."
Ellis gasps loud. "He said that to you? Oh, no. He is playing mind games with your feelings, Thorne. Why do you let him get away with that?"
"What am I supposed to say?" I mutter, looking down at my large, heavy hands. "I cannot tell him how my wolf really feels. We always talk about things like that. I do not want to ruin our friendship just because I have feelings and he does not."
"He needs to know what is up," Ellis says firmly. "Or you need to start giving Frank Pratt a real chance. You have been dragging your feet on that courtship for too long."
"I am thinking about it," I admit, though my stomach twists.
Ellis turns to me with a sly grin. "Oh, so now you want him?"
"Do not push it," I laugh, my face burning. "Frank— he is just not my type. You know I am not into those soft-furred, light-skinned wolves. I mean, he is not ugly or anything."
"No, he is not ugly at all with his pretty Drake-looking face," Ellis laughs. "He hates when I say that."
I chuckle. "Just like you hate when he calls you Donna Matthews or Big Glo."
"Because I do not look like Donna!"
I just stare at him. "Brother, I hate to check your wolf, but you do look like Donna Matthews. Everybody says it, including Ellis Boyd."
Ellis growls playfully at me. "Fuck Ellis Boyd and his long-legged wolf form."
"Why do you get so mad anyway? Donna is a cute male wolf," I tease, mocking the royal pack accent.
THORNE MATTHEWS POV"Master Matthews?" talks a smooth, clear voice from the communication crystal. "This is Donna Collins from Mooncrest Wolf Residences. Your application for the territory apartment is fully approved by the pack elders."My heart jumps super fast inside my chest. "Wait... for real?""Yes! If your wolf can send the pack resources for the deposit and the first month of stay by tomorrow morning, the living unit belongs to you. The total comes out to thirty-two hundred silver pieces. Please remember that this is a first-come, first-serve territory law.""Oh, I know that. My wolf remembers you saying that exact thing before.""Yes, so make sure your wolf sends the silver pieces in before the closing of our territory office tomorrow evening.""I will send the silver resources first thing in the morning!""Great! I will send over the sacred pack paperwork after we receive the silver so your wolf can sign it too.""Okay, my wolf will be waiting right here. Thanks so much.""Y
THORNE MATTHEWS POV"Thanks, Sara," I say, a soft smile finally hitting my face. "That means a huge amount to my wolf."Before Sara Myers can even open his mouth to reply, a massive, heavy knock shakes our front door."That is probably Ellis Johnson," I say, already walking over to open the lock.Sure enough, Ellis Johnson struts right inside like he owns the whole territory, wearing a super tight, bright pink designer hunting suit with matching pink leather boots. His long, honey-blonde hair cascades smoothly over his broad shoulders, and his facial grooming is completely flawless as always."Happy Solstice, you beautiful males!" he shouts, throwing his arms wide open."The solstice was two full days ago, brother," I grin, looking at his wild outfit."I know," he smirks, tossing his bag onto the table. "But what is popping up in this apartment right now?""We are just looking over our final designs for the big moonweaver apprentice project next week," I answer."Oh, well, my wolf bro
Hot tears stream right down my face as I press the note and the silver draft flat against my chest, my heart swelling with so much emotion I can barely breathe. He really is a good male. Every single conversation we ever had about my dreams, my goals, and my designs—his wolf had been listening to every single word.I let out a shaky breath, sinking back onto the soft furs as a small smile tugs at my lips. Ellis Boyd has always been way more than just a close pack companion or a silly crush. He was the only male who truly saw my wolf—even when I could not see myself.I might have lost his body to the uncertain future of the royal warrior league... but my wolf did not lose his ultimate belief in me.And that is worth everything to my spirit. As I hold the letter tight, a sudden wave of fierce determination settles deep into my bones. Becoming a professional moonweaver is no longer just a distant dream. It is completely real now.And I am going to make damn sure I make Ellis Boyd proud.
THORNE MATTHEWS POV"You do not have to leave the vehicle running, Ellis Boyd," I say, my voice sounding super small in the front seat.He shifts the pack wagon into park but keeps the heater blowing out warm air. His deep brown eyes stare straight at my face, silently begging my wolf to change his mind, to say anything at all to fix this mess.I bite my bottom lip so hard it hurts, swallowing the huge lump in my throat. "Thank you... for driving my wolf back to Elder Tillie's Moon Cottage.""Thorne," he starts, his deep voice sounding completely tight and strained, like his wolf is fighting a massive battle inside his chest. But my mind is completely made up. I cannot do this to myself. Not tonight."Good luck at the new ironfang training grounds, Ellis Boyd." My voice cracks just a little bit, but I force a small smile before quickly opening the heavy door and climbing down. The freezing winter wind hits my face hard as I rush up the stone walkway, my breath blowing out in white clo
THORNE MATTHEWS POV"Forgot how nice this alpha moonkeep is," I say, walking straight inside and looking up at the high ceilings. The air smells like fresh pine and hot wax on the hardwood floors. A huge silver chandelier hangs right in the middle of the foyer, looking super expensive and shiny. A big mahogany staircase goes up to the second floor, and the walls have great pictures of Ellis Boyd and his royal family. His father looks huge and strong like a true alpha warrior champion, and his mother looks very proud.Ellis Boyd smirks, clicking the heavy door lock behind me. "It is just a house, Thorne."I shake my head, looking at him. "No, my place with Abby is just a house. This is a royal citadel."He laughs a little bit, walking past my body. "Are you thirsty? I have soda, water, or some of my dad's strong liquor."I raise an eyebrow at him. "Liquor?""Relax," Ellis Boyd grins, looking very handsome. "My wolf is not trying to get you drunk... unless you want me to.""Shut up and
"I am never moving back into the den with Abby," I say, folding my extra shirt and putting it on the pile.Ellis Johnson looks up from his communication crystal and sighs. "I hear you, Thorne. I know exactly what your wolf is feeling. No matter how crazy our bloodline gets, you cannot just stop loving your own brother.""I hate that my wolf cares so much," I mutter, rubbing my arm. "I really wish he had a great solstice, but he is probably totally high on shadow herbs right now and does not even know what day it is.""He knows," Ellis Johnson says, tossing his crystal onto the bed. "He told me to tell your wolf Happy Solstice when I left his territory. I just did not want to come in here and make your mind sad right away because I know you are having a super hard day."My eyes light up a little bit. "How did his wolf look?""He looked okay, he did not look high at all.""He did not?" I ask, raising my voice."Nope, not that I could tell," Ellis Johnson says, stretching his arms. "He e
