Alaric's Pov

“You caused it, you menace.”

She let out a dramatic gasp, pulling back just enough for me to see her exaggeratedly wide eyes, “Me?!” She exclaimed, her voice still laced with that teasing mischief, “I didn’t do anything wrong, Alaric! I was simply proving my affections, as requested!”

Despite the rather acute discomfort radiating from my lower regions, a genuine laugh bubbled up from my chest, deep and unrestrained. It felt good, liberating.

“You’re right.” I conceded, still chuckling, burying my face back into her hair, “You did nothing wrong. It’s just… my self-control seems to have a habit of going completely out the window whenever you’re around, Rhea. Especially now.”

She snuggled closer, her warmth a comforting weight against me, “But you’ve been such a perfect gentleman around me, Alaric.” She murmured, her voice soft, almost purring, “Always so composed. So… proper.”

I scoffed, a fond exasperation in the sound, “Proper? You truly haven’t been paying attent

Leon's Pov “I've been caught. If whoever did this sends this photo to them, it'll only be a matter of time before Alaric and Rhea know that I'm the one behind the accident!” If only I had gotten there faster and taken Rhea away from that place before they were taken to the by Isabelle, things would have been easier. Before I got to the accident scene, Isabelle had taken Alaric and lied to him that she was his fiancée. At that time, after seeing Alaric reject Rhea and Rhea crying, I had thought it was a very good idea that could separate Alaric and Rhea. I watched from afar as she cried her heart out after promising herself that she wasn't going to cry. She had fallen onto the grass, her clothes soaked in tears. I could have helped her, but under no circumstances would she have gone home with me. I knew that. So I let Carmen take her and nurture her. She became Isabelle's enemy. I asked Anya to give Isabelle that medicine to feed Alaric after seeing that despite the accident, Alaric

Leon's Pov. The corridor was silent. I walked slowly, my footsteps echoing in the dim lightening of the corridor. My eyes were fixed on the door at the end of the hall and until I got to that door, I didn't look at anything else. That place was my destination, it was my sanctuary. I reached the door, turned the handle, and stepped inside. The room was dark until I flicked on the desk lamp. The board on the far wall came into view and the surface of the board was all covered in pictures of Rhea. I had spent months collecting them. There she was laughing at a cafe, walking through the park, and sleeping in the back of a car. Some were clear, others were blurred shots taken from a distance. I closed the door and locked it.I walked toward the board. I didn't touch the photos yet. I just hovered my hands over them, feeling the closeness of her image."Finally," I whispered. My plan was working. Today, Rhea had looked at me differently. The distance was gone. I had played the supportive f

Rhea’s Pov“What?”The word came out of him too fast, sharp with disbelief. Alaric stared at me like I’d just spoken in a language he didn’t recognize.I didn’t blink. I didn’t soften my expression. “Could you please repeat the question? I don't think I heard you clearly.” he asked, frowning now, clearly trying to understand what he’d just heard.“Are you getting married,” I said again, my voice steady, “to a woman named Justine?”For a moment, he just stood there. Then he let out a short, disbelieving laugh that died almost immediately. “What are you talking about?”His confusion wasn’t feigned. I could see it in the way his brows pulled together, in the way his shoulders tensed as though he were bracing for something he couldn’t see.“Rhea,” he said carefully, “did you fall asleep in the car and dream about me getting married or something? Because I genuinely don’t understand this question.”“You’re saying you’re not getting married,” I replied.“Of course I'm getting married. I’m s

Rhea's Poc The word felt like a physical blow, one that I hadn’t prepared for. I stared at Leon, my heart skipping a beat, though not for the reason he probably thought. "What? That’s… that’s a lie, Leon. That’s not possible. Alaric’s father and I don’t get along, sure, but Alaric would never let him dictate something like that."Leon didn’t offer a verbal rebuttal. Instead, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone. He tapped the screen a few times and slid it across the marble tabletop. I leaned in, my breath hitching as I watched the video playback. It was a live broadcast and the person on the video was Alaric’s father and he was standing behind a podium. He spoke of his son's upcoming engagement to a woman named Justine, the daughter of a Greek shipping magnate. I blinked multiple times, my eyes widening as I stared at the screen. My lower lips trembled. “I can't believe this," I whispered, my voice thick with a pitiful, fragile quality. "Leon, this has to be

Rhea's Pov The slow music of the restaurant made me close my eyes in enjoyment. It was quiet, amazing. The last few hours had been so hectic with the whole welcome banquet thing that was being planned for Laziel. Laziel had insisted that I had to be amongst one of the planners and despite his family's words, he didn't back down and so, I was one of the chief planners, is not the chief. It was so exhausting. And as for Alaric, he was still pretty much occupied with his company so I had go come out alone to have some quiet time. Just as I wanted to take another sip of my drink, a pair of hands, large and smelling faintly of cedarwood slid over my eyes. I froze. My heart slammed against my ribs and it made my breath hitch. My fingers cramped around my phone, my knuckles turning white."Who’s that?" I asked. My voice came out small. "Guess," a voice whispered near my ear. It was deep, smooth, and carried a playful lilt that I knew so well. I felt the tension drain out of my shoulders,

Rhea's Pov Alaric raised an eyebrow, a small, mischievous smirk playing on his lips despite the gravity of the situation. "And you, Nathan? I assume you had to look at these photos for... research purposes and not because you have a bunch of other thoughts in mind?" Nathan’s face turned a brilliant shade of crimson. "I had to! I spent three hours staring at those pictures, comparing them to the medical records I swiped from their respective doctor’s private server. I made such a sacrifice and what are the both of you talking about?!" I couldn't help it. A small laugh escaped me. "Three hours, Nathan? That’s a lot of time to spend looking at another man's body. I didn't know you were so... dedicated to a job like this? Very impressive." "I am fully straight, if that's what you're trying to imply!" Nathan snapped, though his blushing intensified. "I am not gay, I am not bi, I am just a very thorough investigator who now knows more about Jace’s anatomy than I ever cared to know."
