Chapter 66

Rhea's Pov

“None of us are comfortable with your presence here. It'll be best for you to leave.” I said firmly, no trace of friendliness in my voice. Richard could only stand there, staring at me with eyes that could send me to the grave and back. Not that I had not been to the grave already.

“Alright then.” Richard straightened himself up, “I'll be out of your hair. We'll meet again next time, in a more formal setting.”

I nodded nonchalantly, watching as he left the drawing room. The moment his back disappeared, I let out a sigh or more like a breath of relief. How did Alaric deal with this man every day until it was finally over?

“Mom.” Alaric's voice brought me out of my thoughts and I turned to face Elena, who looked less pale. I just noticed that there was a wound at the side of her head that was still bleeding. I motioned for one of the servants walking around to come nearby.

“Please bring me your first aid.”

She nodded and left, a few minutes lat

Chapter 67 Rhea's Pov “If one day, things get hard between you, if he pushes you away or becomes cold, it’s not because he doesn’t care. It’s because he doesn’t know how to let himself be vulnerable without fearing it’ll be used against him. So I’m asking you, as his mother… if anything ever happens, please don’t leave him so easily. Not without at least reminding him that he’s worthy of love.” I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat, “I won’t.” I promised, “I won’t leave him. But Elena, Alaric is already showing me things that I also couldn't and could never have experienced. You might have raised him better than you think you have.” Elena’s eyes widened. “So no matter what, pride yourself in it. Don't talk down on yourself. Alaric might not be the best version of himself now but he's a really good man, and he is capable of love. I know that. You raised him well, mom.” Elena's shoulders shook and she clenched her fists tightly, “Thank you, Rhea. Thank you so much

Chapter 65 Rhea's Pov “Get in line. There are others waiting to get me before you do.” I muttered under my breath. From the corner of my eyes, I could see Alaric trying to hold back his laughter but almost failing. Xander stormed off in angry strides, his ears red from embarrassment. Cute. I watched until he disappeared around the corner. “I was going to handle it.” Alaric murmured, crouching slightly to meet my eyes. “I know.” I said, looking at him, “But I wanted to.” “You were brilliant.” “I was honest.” “Even better. You really see through people, don’t you?” I asked. “Only when they’re trying too hard to hide.” She murmured. “Then what do you think Xander is trying so hard to hide? Can you tell me?” Alaric pressed on, and I raised my head to stare at him. In my past life, Xander had become very successful but they had been enemies. I heard that it was Alaric's father who had taken him under his wing and used him. So Xander turned out to be someone who w

Chapter 64 Alaric's Pov “Alaric?” I turned my gaze towards the person who called my name and my eyes narrowed instantly. His smirk widened upon seeing me, “Fancy seeing you here! I thought you didn't like ice cream. How come you're…” He trailed off when he noticed Rhea beside me. If there was a way one's smirk could widen to the edges of his face, this guy would be the greatest specimen. “Well, what do we have here? Alaric, you didn't tell me that you were seeing a woman. After all these years, I thought you were gay.” Xander grinned. Xander was not my older brother per say, he was more of a cousin from my mother's family. However, he was on the path to becoming someone who would fight against me for the family's asset. Xander would become adopted into the Vale as my older brother just because Richard didn't want me to take over the company, he wanted someone that he could control quite easily and who other than the playful, womanising and mischievous Xander. Unfortunately for m

Chapter 62 Alaric's Pov My eyes lingered on her beautiful pouty lips for a little while longer than expected and she must have noticed. I raised my eyes to stare at hers instead and smirked, “Good girl.” She glared at me. Well, she tried to. But that pink dusting her cheeks gave her away. She was flustered. Again. And I loved every second of it.“Stop calling me that.” Rhea muttered, her tone weak with protest but her eyes betraying the tiniest twitch of a smile.I shrugged, “What? ‘Good girl’? But you are. You didn’t move like I told you to. That deserves a reward, doesn’t it?”She turned her head away quickly, probably to hide her reaction, but I caught the slight lift of her lips. Damn, she was adorable when she was trying not to smile. Before I could tease her more, she said, “I want ice cream.”That caught me off guard.“Ice cream?” I echoed. She looked back at me, her brows raised like it was the most natural thing in the world, “Yeah. I’m tired, annoyed, and honestly? I feel

Chapter 62 Rhea's Pov “You wouldn't want to be that kind of internet famous now, would you? Running away from the phones every second, hiding from the police and even the embarrassment, I wouldn't want that for you and that's why, I'm giving you some time.” My voice dropped to a chilling whisper, “If you know what's good for you, pay up what you owe me and remember, even if you leave the house, you will still pay what you owe to me so there is no way out of this, Kevin.” Once I finished speaking, I stared at Kevin through my lashes, smiling when I saw the gears turning in his head. “You… You're not giving me any away. R… Rhea, why are you doing this to me? Don't you love me anymore? It's me, Kevin. The person you've liked for a long time! Is anyone deceiving you to start hating me? Are they telling you any lies against me? Whatever they are saying, it's not true. I…” “Kevin, I have been deceiving myself ever since I met you. My eyes are open now. Falling in love with you? Biggest

Rhea's POV “What? Complete your words, Kevin. Are you scared of what people would think if they knew what you were up to?” I crossed my arms, letting my voice slice through the his mind fog and letting him see who held the power here. The classroom had gone dead silent, no one dared to breathe too loudly as all eyes swung between Kevin and me. Kevin’s face twitched, panic flickering behind the mask of anger he wore like cheap cologne. Everyone knew something was off about the supposed “man of the house,” but now that I was cracking his little illusion wide open? He looked ready to bolt. I tilted my head, keeping my voice calm and casual, “Go ahead, Kevin. Ask me why the electricity and water got cut off. Oh wait, you already did, remember?” I smiled sweetly, “Well, let me give you your answer.” I leaned forward just a little, “It’s because, as of this month, you and your family owe me rent. You’ve been living in that house for how long now? Six months? Seven? And yet you strut

Rhea's POV “I asked you if we could go on a date, if you didn't want to, you could have told me! You didn't need to try to kill me!” I flared at Alaric who by the way didn't look like he was listening to me. His eyes were wide, filled with shock and his palms were clammy and sweaty. I frowned, did he not want to go out with me so badly? What did I do to this guy? He acted like he liked me previously, even risking his life to save mine so what the hell was happening?! I wanted to pull out my hair so much because he was confusing me! “Ah… I'm sorry. I was just… Shocked.” He took a deep breath and leaned on his seat, “I'm sorry. I… Where do you want to go? I'll take you there after school.” I crossed my arms, “You don't have to force yourself to like me. It's okay, I'll just visit your mother first and I'll…” “No!” Alaric suddenly yelled, making me jump up, startled. “What?” “I said no. We're going on the date, I was just surprised that you would ask me out, that's all, I wasn

Rhea's POV “Let's just say… I want to drive them to their edge and what better way is it than to start taking the things they thought they had one by one?” “I have no idea on what you're trying to accomplish but whatever you want, I'll do it. Now that you've come to your senses, I'm more happy than ever.” Lilian sounded genuinely excited and happy for me. I had thrown away a gem because of trash like Kevin and the rest. “I'll treat you to a meal the next time we meet each other. Chinese, Italian, Indian, Nigerian, anything you want. You'll get it all.” “I’ll hold you to that.” Lilian replied, laughing softly, “I don’t get spoiled enough these days, so prepare to pay up.” “I’m serious. Once things calm down, let’s go out, just the two of us.” “I’d love that.” She said warmly, and for a brief second, it felt like the world was just a little less cruel. We stayed silent for a few heartbeats, the kind of silence that wasn’t heavy or awkward but peaceful. It was strange how Lilia
