CHAPTER 099

Still Water

Freya’s POV

I didn’t tell Bibi where we were going.

I just buckled her into the back seat, kissed her cheek, and drove like my hands weren’t shaking on the wheel.

Eliza’s place was quiet. Secure. Too expensive for coincidence.

Bibi jumped out happily, already distracted by Lucian’s dog and Eliza’s soft voice calling her inside. She didn’t cling. She didn’t look back.

That hurt more than if she had.

I crouched in front of her, brushing her hair back. “You’ll stay here tonight, okay? Just a little sleepover.”

“With Auntie Eliza?” she grinned.

“Yes.”

She nodded, then paused. “Mommy?”

“Yes, baby.”

“You’re gonna be brave now, right?”

My throat closed.

“I already am,” I said.

She hugged me once, quick, trusting then ran inside. I waited until the door closed before I cried.

Just once. Then I wiped my face, straightened my back, and drove home.

The house smelled the same but I felt different, distant like walking in was a terrible decision. Kaiden was sitting on the

CHAPTER 098He’s Your FatherFreya’s POVBibi was sitting on the floor with her crayons when I closed the door behind us, like I was afraid even the walls might overhear. She was drawing a house. A crooked one. Too many windows. A sun that leaned to one side like it was tired of shining.I sat beside her slowly, folding my legs the way she liked, close enough that our knees touched.“Bibi,” I said gently. She hummed, still coloring. “Mm?”“There’s something I want to talk to you about.”She paused, then nodded. “Okay.”I took a breath. Not the kind you take before a speech. The kind you take before stepping into cold water.“You know how families can look different?” I began. “Some kids live with one parent. Some with two. Some with grandparents. Some with people who choose them.”She glanced at me, curious. “Like Reene's parents? She has two moms.”“Yes.” I smiled softly. “Exactly like that.”She went back to her drawing. That helped.“And you know how sometimes,” I continued careful

CHAPTER 098Innocence Alan’s POVI didn’t expect her to look at me like that. Not with fear, I could handle fear. Not even anger , anger can be reasoned with. But disappointment? That was something else entirely. She sat on the small wooden bench outside the counselor’s office, her legs swinging slowly, not touching the floor. A pink jacket folded neatly beside her. Her hair was braided differently than I remembered, tighter. Like someone had been trying to make her behave. She didn’t look up when I stopped in front of her.“Bibi,” I said gently. Nothing. Not even a flinch.Freya stood behind me, silent. I could feel her holding her breath like if she exhaled too hard, this would all shatter.I crouched down anyway, lowering myself to Bibi’s height. “It’s me,” I added softly. “Uncle Alan.”That did it. Her shoulders stiffened. She turned her head slowly, eyes sharp and shiny, nothing like a child who knew more than she should.I fought in the urge, to hug her. To live those moments I

CHAPTER 096If Sacrifices had names.Freya’s POVI didn’t let go of him immediately. If I did, the world might rush back in too fast, the cafe ding, the danger, Kaiden’s face still clinging to my spine. I stayed where I was, my face buried in Alan’s shoulder, breathing him in like proof that I hadn’t imagined him. He was Alive, Warm and Real enough as I needed him.His arms tightened slightly, protective without trapping me. He didn’t ask questions. He never did when I was breaking.“I thought you hated me,” I whispered, my voice muffled against his chest. He exhaled slowly. “I thought you were alive. That was enough.”That nearly broke me.I pulled back just enough to look at him. He looked thinner. Pale. Like someone who’d learned how to survive without rest. There was still a faint scar near his collarbone, the one from Russia. The one I never asked about since he came back because I was too busy running.Eliza stood quietly now, giving us space, watching like a woman who had alr

I played along, like I was interested in his stupid dumb lie."I'm sorry." He fell short of words, his eyes fixed on mine."Sorry for what exactly? I need a list of the things you're sorry for." He looked surprised, like he wasn't expecting me to actually speak, act human or accuse him of his crimes."I need you to explain the accident, The one that almost killed Bibi and I." I clarified things, cleared the air but he pretended to be puzzled, like he didn't know a damn thing."What are you talking about? It's all fake, that Russian or Italian girl is lying to you and you need to understand that I'm the only one you can believe right now so..." He paused, realizing I had a smirk on."I know you're upset Frey but I need to protect you and our daughter from Alan.""Our daughter? Have you forgotten so soon? You mean Alan's dau

Chapter 094A lying monster.POV (FREYA)Peace never felt so far from me, I felt... Drained. My mind dragged over and through the mud as I tried to piece the dots together. Why was I so cruel? did I run from the one thing protecting me? Why did I fail to heal before jumping into a pit again?I bet the world didn't end when I left Bibi to the maid at home after getting her discharged. What else could go wrong? I had texted Eliza to meet me at a cafe but I've been sitting there for 4 hours straight while I ordered the same coffee over and over again."We're closing soon ma'am, I don't think you should wait any longer." The staff Informed me but that didn't stop me from waiting outside the cafe for two more hours before I started to head home in that cold night. But I stopped by a roadside bar for a quick glass and I left immediately as soon as I felt myself getting tipsy.I took the Last bus and spent a longer time before I finally reached home the drink slowly wearing off.The moment I
