Amelia's POV

I quickly glanced at the clock above his head, realizing that I hadn't missed the flight.

James was to take me to the airport.

"You'd leave this country today, sick or not! I'd drive you to the airport if I had to!" barked, turning sharply and stomping out of the room.

A few moments later he comes back and hands me some medicine. “It's for fever,” he said with a straight face.

I shook my head. I didn't need that. This caused his face to frown. He said, “What you do with that is your business," and he replied, tossing the pills on the table.

Glancing at me briefly, he turned around and walked out. He wanted to drive me to the airport. That sounded nice. But I shook my head immediately, knowing that he'd only do that to chase me out of his life.

Dragging my tired self up and to my closet, I tried to put a lot in order, packing up my numerous belongings.

A few minutes later, I realized I couldn't handle it anymore. I rushed to the restroom and threw up again, my intestines making me feel like I was about to lose them all.

I slumped on the floor with a quick thud, my head feeling an intense pain travel through. No one was there to help, so I didn't bother asking for one.

With great effort, I got up to my feet and headed out of the restroom.

I rushed to my wardrobe, the banging headache unending, pulling it open and bringing out some tablets.

"The perfect trick," I said to myself, tearing it open, and was already about to put it in my mouth when I was interrupted.

"Amelia! Four damn hours more. What the hell is keeping you in there?" James's voice echoed all round the room.

With that, I looked down at the pills with a second thought, recalling that certain drugs had chances of causing a miscarriage. With doubts in my mind, I dumped the drugs and chose to endure the pain all through.

Turning around, I saw James already stuffing some stuff inside the big bag I kept on the bed.

"What are you..."

"I guess it's time you knew how it's done," he replied, cutting me short. "There you go!!"

He dumped the unruly bag on the bare ground, shooting a fiery glance at me. I knew he'd stuff me in the bag if he had to, so I quickly walked up to him.

"I'm ready to go, James," I managed to say. He ran his eyes slowly over me, turning and leaving the room.

The drive to the airport was quiet, and when we finally got there, he parked his car with a start, unlocking my door from the driver's seat and sinking more into his seat.

"I'd lead you to the security point," he said, his voice emotional as he understood what I felt at that point. Taking some of my stuff from my hand, he led the way.

I realized that I hadn't told James about the baby, and I probably never will.

"James’s mother wishes that you call her as soon as you arrive, and she'd be sending a good deal of money to you as compensation," he said, bold enough to wipe tears off my face.

United Kingdom.

One month later.

I had managed to settle with a roommate after arriving in the country. Not even the promise from James' mother was fulfilled.

My parents? Their company had gone bankrupt just after my divorce from James'.

They had only been able to hang on because of the marriage with the James' family, but now everything had fallen apart.

I stood highly irritated, waiting eagerly for my proud and ill-mannered roommate to end her long phone call.

"I was hoping to ask you," I began to say, looking up and locking eyes with her. "Please, I'd need your help in clearing my rent. I'd pay back as soon as I get.... "

The manner in which she rolled her eyes to me made me stop my sentence midway.

"You're more bitchy than I thought, Amelia," she replied, taking a step toward me and busting a bubble gum. "Now it's all clear to me. You certainly must have stolen the money you used in purchasing clothes for your audition, for you look as broke as hell!

Her words stung me deep, and I opened my mouth to say something, anything, but words just didn't form. I really loved acting, and she knew that.

"You'd be kicked out sooner than later, Amelia, bear that in mind," she said, turning around and eagerly swaying her hips as she walked out of the room.

I sank onto the bed, feeling dejected once again. I refreshed my phone, but there were no new messages or calls.

I scrolled through my contact list, searching for friends and associates who could help me in my time of need. But none of them seemed valuable enough to reach out to.

I touched my pregnancy bump, feeling a pang of worry. I had to go for my regular check-up the next day, but I had no idea how I was going to afford it. I felt a surge of desperation and decided to call Mom again. But she didn't answer. She was probably busy.

Taking a deep breath, I summoned up the courage to call James. After ringing five times, he finally picked up. But to my surprise, it was Isabel's voice on the other end. Isabel's voice was friendly, almost too friendly, and I felt a pang of unease.

"Hey, Amelia," she said, her voice dripping with sweetness. "What's up?"

I hesitated for a moment. "I'd...I'd love to ask James to lend me some money."

There was silence on the other end for a while, and after what I thought was distant laughter, she returned to the dial.

"Alright, he'd get your message, Amelia," Isabel finally replied.

"That'll be great, love...." The phone hung up from the other end, cutting my sentence short.

But as the days went by, I heard nothing from James or Isabel. No call, no message, no money. And to make matters worse, I received no news from the movie production company for the audition.

I felt like I had hit rock bottom. I was pregnant, alone, and penniless. And I had no idea how I was going to survive.

----

Two years later.

“Welcome back home, ma’am.” I was greeted by a convoy immediately as I stepped out of the private jets.

Finally, after two years, I was back in the United States as a successful actress and the owner of a large-scale construction company. I had put my income from my successful acting career into this and it had paid

“Would you like to have a rest, ma'am? Tomorrow you can as well check out the building projects.” A man in a black suit asked politely.

“That's fine.” I nodded at him.

“What company handles the building construction?” I turned to him and asked.

“You don't have to worry, ma'am; they are pretty well known, James Holdings PLC." He said with an expression filled with assurance.

“James? "Wasn't that my ex-husband's company?” My lips parted in surprise.

I was meeting the chairman of the company handling the construction, and that was James?

Amelia's POVThe facial expression of the doctor was convincing enough."You might be pregnant, Amelia!! You might be pregnant!" she said, standing up from her seat and walking towards me.Yeah, I think so too; I suspected it, although it came as a shock."After the timeless wait, you'd have your own anytime soon. It's a big shame to your haters, girl! The doctor said, laughing loudly and obviously not sensing how bad I felt this situation was. I had turned pale.I turned to face her slowly. "What's the possibility of a wrong result, Julie? I mean... this is my first, so complications may have arisen or something."I watched as her excited mood turned sour immediately, her eyebrows furrowing. "Umm, yeah, that’s possible, Amelia. Your pregnancy test report, can you go get it? Let’s be one hundred percent sure."Phew, I felt a bit relieved and hopeful by the doctor's words; I felt my palms starting to get sweaty and my face pale as ever. Minutes later I was back, already seated and read

My mother's voice was soft, but the look in her eyes wasn’t. It was the same wary, searching gaze James had given me."Mom, I didn't—" She held up her hand. "We just want to know the truth, dear. Did you and Isabel have a scuffle?"I shook my head furiously. "No! I would never—"Dad placed a firm hand on my shoulder, his expression unreadable. "We believe you, Amelia. "But I wasn't sure if he meant it.That night, James refused to let me accompany him to the hospital."You need to stay here and rest," he said flatly before walking out the door.I lay in be

Amelia's POVHe had said he was going on a trip, but here he was, beaming a wild smile as he hugged her in a selfie. There were so many pictures of them hanging out and having so much fun. It looked so much like it was more of a date than a business trip. He earlier said it was business matters that he needed to handle.Weeks turned into a month. James came back from his trip today, and I had arranged the house to be perfect. Every piece of furniture was sparkling clean. But as I sat in the living room, thoughts filled my head. Our marriage was nothing more than an arrangement. A business deal between our families.Love wasn't really ever a part of our marriage; we just played the part, but I had convinced myself that maybe, just maybe, we were starting to build something real. After the years we spent together.
