MIA'S POV

I ‎wake to the first light creeping through the thick curtains, reluctant to leave my bed.

I just lay down, staring at the ceiling, the golden rays filtering in from the window warming the coolness of my room.

My body feels heavy, like I’ve been carrying invisible weights overnight. Maybe it’s the dream I had last night, maybe it’s Kyle's sudden appearance or maybe it's both.

Kyle has been in my head since yesterday. I just can’t shake the way his sharp eyes and cruel smile haunt me.

I wonder how he got into the palace and successfully secured a job without Thorne's or the King's notice.

But this Kyle, anything was possible with him.

Time hasn't changed him, he is still the same person from Winterwood, probably even more cruel.

I feel stuck, I can't report Kyle's presence to anyone. I can actually, but it will cost me a secret. A secret I've kept hidden and almost forgotten, a secret that fills me with guilt and restlessness.
