~ELARA~

I quickly turn back, spotting Aria.

“Your Majesty, are you alright? You were heading towards the dark corridor, do you need anything from there?” She asks.

I glance back to the corridor and the eyes are no longer there. I bring my attention back to Aria. “I thought I saw something but it seems I was wrong.”

I know I'm not wrong, there was someone definitely watching me. For some odd reason I have a strong feeling it's the third person in Anita and Calistra's group. I just know it, all I have to do it's prove it. Whoever this person is, I feel like I'm well familiar with him/her. Those eyes, I've seen those eyes before. I've seen it from a place far from the palace.

“Everything is well organized, it's time for you to prepare for the ball.”

“I have to see Micheal. I need to quickly check something before I head back.” I respond back to Aria.

“I can assure you that everything is being taken care of, Your Majesty. There's nothing else to worry about.”

“It’s just that I need to en

~Anita~I glance at her with a grin. “Of course it does.” I slide another key into the lock, twisting it until the bolt releases with a satisfying clank. “Step one, get you out. Step two, make her bleed. It’s time we remind her that crowns can fall as easily as they rise.”The chains fall with a clatter. The door creaks open, and Calistra stands, trying to brush off her skirt with her cuffed hands. She stretches, cracking her neck.‎‎“You look terrible,” I say.‎‎She smirks. “And you look desperate.”‎‎“Desperate women get things done.”‎‎Calistra brows pinches together, holding out her hands for me to remove the cuff. ”But on a serious note, how come you aren't looking as wretched as I am? You were arrested as well.” I sigh, trying to search for the right key amongst the bunch. “I was under house arrest.”“House arrest? Is that even an option for the type of crime you were accused of?” I shrug. “My dad appealed and used his influence in the court council. Basically, nepotism wa

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   192| The Palace Remembers

ANITA'S POVThe moon hangs high above the palace, pale and cold. It’s light spills across the courtyard stones as I move through the shadows, silent, focused and calculative. The guards are changing posts, this is perfect timing. Their boots scrape against the ground, their chatter careless. None of them notice me, the woman they should have been bowing to.‎‎Once upon a time, I was meant to be queen. The future Queen of the strongest being alive, Dravon. I had dreamed of standing beside him, ruling, commanding, adored. But then she came, Elara. Sweet-faced, soft-spoken, acting like she didn’t want power when deep down she craved it. She took everything from me.Now I don't want Dravon anymore. Someone came and opened my eyes to the possibilities of what I can be. Yes, I want to be Queen. I want to rule the kingdom but now, I don't need Dravon. Why depend on a man to get what you want when you can do it yourself?I was once obsessed with him once. I mean he was my childhood friend,

~Elara~“Still alive,” I say quietly. “I wasn’t sure you’d make it.”‎‎A dry laugh escapes him. “You’d be amazed what people live through when they’ve got something to say.”‎‎“Then say it,” I answer. “Before Dravon decides you’re out of time.”‎‎He lifts his gaze, eyes bloodshot but glimmering with that same, infuriating smirk. “You think I’m afraid of him?”‎‎“No,” I say. “You’re afraid of what happens when I stop being kind.”‎His brows pinch together. “You? Kind?”“Let's not pretend here.” I give him a knowing look. “The only reason you're still in this dungeon alive is because Dravon wants to get the truth of my family out of you. Since you refuse to say anything, you'll be taken to the forbidden dungeon tonight.”“I'm not afraid of the forbidden dungeon. I'm ready to be tortured to death.” Kyle proclaims proudly.“I can help you evade all these. I can reduce your sentence, just tell me what you know about my family.” My voice is low, you can almost hear the desperation in m

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   190| Forbidden Descent

ELARA'S POVYesterday's court meeting lives rent free in my head, especially when Kyle revealed that he knows secrets about my family. What secrets does he know? Did he really meet them? Are they still alive? Do they know that I exist? All these are questions that I need answers to. I need Kyle to tell me everything he knows. I haven't been able to think properly since Kyle's words yesterday. I've been restless, not even sleeping last night. All efforts to make Kyle spill what he knows, both about my family and concerning further treasonous plots, have all been futile. He has been enduring all the torture and questioning, refusing to reveal what he knows. That's why I've come to the conclusion that I have to see Kyle myself. Dravon has ordered me not to ever enter the dungeon but I'll have to disobey that order. Kyle will be moved to the forbidden dungeon tonight therefore I have to visit and speak to him before then. Dravon has tried his torturous methods to make him speak and it was

~Elara~Lord Veyra is noticeably absent, again.‎‎Kyle is thrown to the center of the room, the sound echoing like thunder.‎‎Dravon takes his seat at the head table and I sit beside him. Thorne remains standing, arms crossed, every inch the wrathful protector.‎‎“Beta Kyle of Winterwood,” Dravon begins, his voice echoing. “You are accused of treason, conspiracy, and attempted regicide. How do you plead?”‎‎Kyle laughs. “Oh, I think the part where your lover almost gutted me in public answers that.”‎‎“Answer the question,” Dravon growls.‎‎Kyle smirks. “Fine. Guilty. Happy now?”‎‎A murmur ripples through the room.“The Queen was indeed right.”“I can't believe Lord Veyra's daughter was working with this criminal.”“Everything is making sense.”“He should be publicly executed.” I raise a hand, silencing them.‎‎“Why?” I ask simply. “Why do all this? Betray your pack, your king, your people?”‎‎He looks up at me through bloodshot eyes, something dark flickering behind them.

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   188| The trial of Betrayal

ELARA'S POVThe day breaks heavy and gray, like the sky itself is mourning. “If there's anything else, please don't hesitate to tell me.” I say to the royal healer.“Sure, Your Majesty.” He nods. “I’m positive he'll be fine before the sun sets tomorrow.”“I'll be holding on to your word.” I stand to leave. “I'll be back tomorrow, thank you once again.”“It's an honor, Your Majesty.” He bows as I leave.I leave the royal infirmary, heading towards the court room. I have to address the court council since Dravon isn't yet back from Winterwood. He assured me he'll return yesterday but it's already sunrise yet there has been no news or sign of him. I left Winterwood alongside Mia in order to take Lucien to our royal healer. Luckily, he's already stable, just unconscious. We just need to wait till he awakens. The burden I feel in my chest has been lifted. I don't think I would've ever felt free if Lucien had died, not because I deeply care for him but because the guilt that once again, so
