~ Sarah's POV ~

My blood was still roaring like wildfire when I threw open the heavy doors of the ice rink. The freezing air smacked me in the face, but it did absolutely nothing to cool the rage consuming my body.

There he was.

Saxton was gliding across the ice, practicing with his hockey team. He was laughing so freel, unbothered, and completely detached from the wreckage he'd left behind in my home. Seeing that smug smile on his face made my vision go entirely red.

"Saxton!!!" I scre

~ Saxton's POV ~ I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass, watching the torrential rain slam against my bedroom window with violent force. Thunder rumbled across the sky, shaking the glass panes. My mother had texted earlier saying she wouldn't be back until tomorrow morning. It wasn't anything new. She spent nearly every waking hour at the corporate headquarters, so we barely saw each other. She was a brilliant, hardworking woman who poured her life into my father's business, but he never appreciated her effort. To him, the company was the Callahan legacy... a family name I loathed. I wasn't a Callahan. I never grew up as one. The moment I graduated, I was going to prove to that bastard that a Rhodes was more than capable of dominating the NHL. "Vance?" A small knock sounded at my door. I quickly turned away from the window and opened it to find Seth standing in the hallway, clutching his stuffed bear to his chest. "Vance!" he cried, burying his face directly into my waist

~ Sarah's POV ~ I sat beside my dad's hospital bed, gently caressing his hand with a small, forced smile on my face. Our afternoon professor had canceled lecture today, so I took the opportunity to visit him before my shift as Seth's nanny began. "Hi, Dad," I whispered, another faint smile trembling on my lips as tears welled in my eyes. "It's been four years since that terrible accident. And even though Mom gave up on us and married someone else... I'm never giving up on you. I'm waiting for the day you open your eyes and call me your princess again." I couldn't hold it back anymore. Tears spilled over my eyelashes and traced down my cheeks. "I miss you so much," I whimpered, squeezing his limp hand in mine. If it hadn't been for that hit-and-run driver who knocked him down four years ago, my dad wouldn't be trapped in this endless coma. My mom and I searched endlessly for the driver, but it was useless. The security footage from the intersection vanished into thin air o

~ Saxton's POV ~ It was so damn hilarious watching her struggle to stay upright on those blades. I tried to hold it in, but the second she went crashing down hard on the ice, I couldn't control the laughter erupting from my chest. I knew how dangerous falling on bare ice was, but when it came to her... I really didn't give a damn. "Do you think this is funny?!" she snapped, her face flushed with fury as she glared up at me. "What could possibly be funnier than watching you suffer, Four-Eyes?" I mused. "Saxton!" In her rage, she completely forgot she was wearing skates. She sprang to her feet to come at me, only for the thin metal blades to dig into the ice again. Her legs flew out from beneath her, and she slammed hard on the ice with a loud, pained scream. A slow smirk spread across my face. She looked at me, her eyes practically burning holes right through her thick glasses. "You need to stop this, Saxton! I am not a figure skater!" she yelled. God... she was so st

~ Sarah's POV ~ "Are you completely out of your mind?!" I snapped. "Do I look like a figure skater to you? How on earth do you expect me to dance on slippery ice?!" "Does it look like I give a damn how you do it?" Saxton replied coldly, leaning back against the glass barrier. "You're my slave. You do as I say whenever, wherever, and however I want." "I am not dancing on that ice, Saxton! I agreed to this arrangement, but you are taking this way too far!" I spat. "I'd save my energy for the performance if I were you, Four-Eyes," he sneered, glaring down at me with absolute disdain. "Because whether you like it or not, hate it or not, despise it or not... you are going to dance. You should've thought about the consequences before you decided to mess with my gear." I stepped even closer, my index finger practically poking into his broad chest. "You are really testing my patience, Saxton." "Get that stubby finger out of my face," he growled, his forehead creasing in irr

~ Sarah's POV ~ "Are you being serious right now?!" Jessica gasped, her eyes practically popping out of her head. "Saxton is the eldest Callahan son?!" "Keep your voice down, Jess!" I hissed, frantically scanning the cafeteria to see if anyone was listening "I can't help it, Sarah," she whispered loudly, leaning so far across the table her nose was practically in my food. "I thought the eldest son of the Callahan family was a disabled." "Believe me, I was just as shocked as you are," I said, stabbing my fork into my spaghetti. "You made me believe the eldest son was blind or stuck in a wheelchair, only for me to step into their mansion and find out it's Saxton." "Because that's literally what everyone says." Jessica defended herself, shaking her head in disbelief. "And it made sense since he never appears in any of their family photos or televised events. Do you have any idea why he keeps his real identity such a massive secret?" "I don't know... and I honestly don

  • Captivating The Hockey Star's Heart    Chapter 21

~ Sarah's POV ~ "Didn't you get enough sleep last night, Nanny?" Seth asked, peering up at me curiously as I helped him adjust his school uniform. The little boy had every reason to ask. I couldn't stop yawning every five seconds as if my life depended on it. I had spent the entire night slaving over the hot iron in Saxton's room, pressing clothes that were already pristine. By the time I finally hung the last shirt back in his walk-in wardrobe, it was already past six in the morning. Going back to sleep wasn't even an option because I had to wake Seth up and get him ready for school. "No, sweetie, I didn't get much sleep at all," I admitted with a tired smile. "Why? Were you too nervous because it was your first night in our house?" he asked innocently, zipping up his backpack. "You're just like my brother. He always finds it really hard to sleep in a new place on his first night." I forced a tight, polite smile into my face. Just hearing his brother's name made my blood
