Chapter 15

Author: Lilia
Vincent froze as if struck by lightning, his fingers tightening on his phone. "What did you say?!"

Just then, the car entered a tunnel, the signal cut out, and the call dropped.

"Turn around! To the Romano estate! Now!" Vincent's voice was terrifyingly cold, his eyes churning with a rage he had never shown before.

Marco was so startled he nearly lost control of the wheel, quickly executing a U-turn. He had never seen Vincent like this—the usually composed Boss now had bloodshot eyes and a jaw clenched so tight it looked ready to shatter.

The convoy sped to the Romano estate. Vincent kicked the front door open and stormed inside.

Don Romano was sitting on a leather sofa, sipping whiskey. He was so shocked he almost dropped his glass. "Vincent? What are you doing here?"

"You married Sophia off to someone in Boston?" Vincent bit out each word.

Don Romano paused, then gave an obsequious smile. "I did. Three days ago. You were always complaining about how much trouble she was, right? And th

On the twenty-seventh day of her captivity, Sophia learned to be obedient. She stopped fighting, stopped her hunger strikes, and even offered Vincent a faint smile from time to time. Vincent was wary at first, but gradually, he began to believe she had resigned herself to her fate."What do you want to eat today?" he asked one morning, tying his tie by the bed.Sophia leaned against the headboard, her hair cascading over her shoulders. Her voice was calm. "Whatever you make."Vincent's fingers paused. A flash of surprise crossed his eyes, followed by a smile. "Alright." He turned and went to the kitchen, his posture relaxed for the first time in weeks. The moment he was gone, Sophia threw back the covers and pulled a micro-computer from under the mattress—stolen from his study last week. She typed a series of codes, her fingers flying across the keyboard. She had breached the island's security system. An encrypted distress signal was sent.Three nights later, Sophia stood on the edge o

Vincent had to return to New York to handle Marcelli family business. On his third day away, Sophia stood at the French doors of the island villa, watching the last ray of sunlight disappear.A maid entered quietly. "Madam, please drink some milk."Sophia didn't move. "When is he coming back?""Mr. Vincent said he would be back as soon as—""BANG! "The glass hit the wall, shattering. "I am not your 'madam'," Sophia sneered. "Get out."The terrified maid scrambled out. Sophia bent down and picked up the sharpest shard of glass. At the same moment, in the Marcelli headquarters in New York, Vincent sat at the head of a conference table, his thumb unconsciously stroking his phone. The screen showed a surveillance still: Sophia on the beach, staring at the horizon, her silhouette so thin it looked as if the sea breeze could blow her away."Boss? About this arms deal...""Postpone it," he said, suddenly standing up. "Get the car. We're going to the airport."Marco was stunned. "But the fami

The helicopter landed on a private island at dawn. The roar of the rotors died down, replaced by the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.Vincent carried Sophia off the aircraft. The moment her feet touched the ground, she shoved him away."Illegal confinement?" she sneered, her wedding dress whipping in the sea breeze. "When did Vincent Marcelli stoop to such low-life tactics?"Vincent didn't get angry. He smiled faintly. "So what if I did?" He reached out and stroked her cheek, his fingertips cold, his gaze scorching. "Sophia, you're mine. Don't even think about marrying anyone else."Inside the main villa, Vincent gave her a tour. "Everything here is yours," he said, opening the French doors. "The gardens, the pool, the library... even that ocean."Sophia was unmoved. "I want to go back.""Sophia, let's start over," Vincent said, hugging her from behind. He rested his chin on her head, his voice low and raspy. "As if none of it ever happened."Sophia broke free and turned to f

The day before the wedding, Sophia sat at the vanity in the bridal suite, her fingertips tracing the diamonds on her wedding dress. The sun was shining, and staff bustled outside, preparing for the ceremony. Everything seemed perfect.A soft knock came at the door."Princess?" Alexander entered, holding a cup of warm herbal tea and a small, elegant velvet box. He was dressed in a well-fitted black suit, his eyes impossibly gentle."You barely touched your breakfast," he said, placing the cup beside her.Sophia looked up, a small smile on her lips. "Is this Alexander's way of disciplining me?""I wouldn't dare." He leaned down and handed her the box. "I'm just worried you'll be hungry."Sophia opened the box. Inside were exquisite pieces of Italian chocolate."I heard you used to love the chocolates from this shop," Alexander said softly. "I had them flown in from Milan."Sophia paused, surprised. She was about to speak when the estate's security alarm began to shriek."What's going on?

"The Sterling family and the New York mafia have always stayed out of each other's way. What is Vincent Marcelli doing here?"Guests began to whisper, their murmurs spreading through the ballroom. All eyes were on the tall figure in the doorway."Why is he staring at Miss Sophia like that? Don't tell me he's here to crash the wedding."Almost instantly, Alexander pulled Sophia into his arms, shielding her with his body. But Sophia was surprisingly calm. She looked at Vincent and smiled. "Mr. Marcelli, what brings you here? A wedding gift?"Her words were a knife, stabbing deep into Vincent's chest. His jaw tightened, veins standing out on his neck. His voice was raw. "Sophia, come back with me."Sophia's smile widened. "Go back to what? To watch you take care of Isabella?""I don't love Isabella!"Vincent's voice was almost a roar, stunning the crowd into silence."I love you!"The guests gasped, and the whispers erupted."He really is here to crash the wedding!""I thought he was immu

  • Captive Princess   Chapter 17

"Ten years ago, at the yacht party in the Hamptons...""Have you forgotten who you saved?"Sophia froze, her memory pulled back a decade. At that party, she had been on the deck when she heard a splash. A young boy had fallen overboard. Before anyone else could react, she had dived in after him.The water was ice-cold, but she swam desperately toward the struggling figure. After swallowing several mouthfuls of seawater, she finally dragged him back to the deck."Are you okay?" she'd asked, soaked to the bone but ignoring herself as she knelt to perform first aid.The little boy coughed up water and opened his eyes, his lashes beaded with moisture. She had taken off her jacket and wrapped it around his shivering body. "Hey, kid. Be more careful next time."The boy had clutched her jacket, his eyes shining like stars....Sophia snapped back to the present, staring at Alexander in disbelief. "That little kid who fell in the water... that was you?!"The tips of Alexander's ears flushed. "
