JOVAN'S POV

The signature was mine or it was close enough to mine that sitting in a boardroom on the fourteenth floor of the Aldini building I had to look at it twice to confirm what I already knew which was that I had never signed anything authorising a Luxembourg restructure and certainly not through an internal code that I had built specifically so that ownership level instructions could not be forged at middle management.

The whole point of VC-09 was that it could not originate at the top.

  • Captive To The Mafia Lord   Chapter 163

Jovan's POV "Let me see." I turned her wrist gently and she winced. The cuts weren't too deep. "This needs cleaning.""I'm fine." She answered."You're bleeding on the floor. Sergei even told you that." I glanced up at Lorenzo. "She should come stay with us. At least for a while.""No." Lena pulled her arm back, wincing in pain. Marcus went upstairs and he returned with a towel and a first aid kit which he set beside me."Lena, he was inside this house." I said. “He knows where you live.”"I know. I was the one thrown through a table.""So let us help you." Lorenzo chipped in. “God knows what he'll do next.”"You want to help me?" She looked up at me, exhausted. "Then stop chasing this."Lorenzo went still. "What?""Stop pursuing the case." She answered and we all looked at one another, confused."We need to get justice for Maria.""I know that." Her voice cracked. "But what has justice actually done for us? Derek confessed and walked free. A man just broke into my house and pointed

Lena's POVI sat in the living roomdrinking the tea he'd made which was a bit sugary but my life was already bitter. A little bit of sweetness wouldn't hurt.Lorenzo and the rest had gone to the police station and I was anxiously waiting to know what the next step was so when the door bell rang, I was up on my feet in seconds to answer it.I opened the door expecting Lorenzo but I came face to face with a man in a tuxedo whose eyes were hidden by the hat and the dark shades he had on.“Who are you?” I asked.“Are you Lena?” He asked and I was a bit skeptical but I answered anyways. Maybe Lorenzo had sent him.“Yes, and you are?”He slowly took off the hat then he reached for the glasses and the tattooes that peeked out of his sleeve was what set off my alarms.I slammed the door before he could speak. He caught it with one hand, barely trying, and shoved it open hard enough that I stumbled back into the hallway."That's rude," he said, stepping inside like he owned the place. "I only

Lorenzo's pov"What do you mean you released him?!" I slammed my fists on the table and the pen holder toppled over. How could he sit there with a floss by the side of his lips and tell me that he had released Derek because of lack of evidence?!What more evidence did they need?Inspector Alvarez leaned forward, both arms on the table. "Mr Lorenzo, I didn't fully release him. For now, the police will be on his tail and if we find anything substantial, we'll have him behind bars in a second." He added."Bullshit," Dante hissed in annoyance. "He confessed to throwing her from the balcony, so what fucking evidence do you need again?!""Language, Mr. Dante." Alvarez warned and I knew Dante wanted to flip him off so bad.I let out a humorless laugh. He was correcting Dante's language? What was his concern?Alvarez turned his attention back to me. “Mr Lorenzo, it is against the law to hold someone when there is no evidence and he was forced to speak under duress. He did it because Jovan wan

Elias Voss POVI hated police stations so much and the funny thing was that I used to be one and I can say that it was one of the most corrupt systems ever.Which made it very easy to secure the bail and toss the file out. I'd been told to come by seven before the day began to avoid any hassle or interruptions from anyone.Derek was brought out and uncuffed. The officer at the desk led me to his boss's office.“Mr Alvarez,” I smiled. “It's been a while since we met. I see you've been keeping the crime rates down.”Alvarez gestured to the empty seat and I sat down. He wasted no time getting down to business and that was the reason why I was happy that he was in charge of this precinct.“It took a lot of forged evidence and testimonies to get the higher ups to turn a blind eye to this case.”I nodded. “I know, which is why Sergei will continue to reward you for your work as long as you keep doing it.”I unzipped my briefcase under his greedy eyes and I pulled out the big envelope Sergei

Lorenzo's POVWe finally got Lena back into the house and she sat on the couch, Jovan's arm still wrapped around her while she quietly sobbed.I stepped outside to the porch to make a phone call. Marcus answered on the second ring."Is Lena okay?" he asked. "I've been trying to reach her for a while now but she's not answering. I'm just—""Calm down, Marcus." I cut him off. "She's fine. I'm at her house with Jovan. He's holding her inside.""Thank god." A breath left him, ragged. "I've been losing my mind out here.""What's going on with the lawyer situation? You said something earlier, before all this.""That's the part I don't understand." His voice tightened. "I called Bertram first thing, figured we'd have him retained before the sun even came up. He turned it down.” He informed me.I raised a brow, confused. Why would Bertram refuse a job from me?“What do you mean he refused to take up this case when you reached out to him?”“I'm as surprised as you are.” He answered. “He didn't

Lena's POVI tried, I really tried to leave but I couldn't bring myself to move an inch knowing that that murderer was in there while my dearest Maria was lying dead in the cold store room of the mortuary.“Ma'am,” one of the policers that'd arrested him tapped on my window. I wound down. “I'm sorry for your loss but you can't stay here all night.”I managed a smile, trying to act all innocent. “I have to get myself together before driving.”He nodded, mumbling something about pulling myself together then he offered his condolences once more before heading to his car.I didn't leave the police station when another police officer told me to. Instead I changed location, parking at the other side where the police station was still in my line of sight. How long would I have to wait before I could finally get my hands on him?Not much, it turned out."Forgot my phone charger," I told the desk officer, breezing past like I belonged there, and made it almost to the holding block before someo

LEILANI'S POVI was a terrible person and I'd known it for months since the moment Jovani Hart slid an envelope across the table and said: "A million dollars. A million dollars when I have what I need. All you have to do is be her friend."I'd taken the money of course not that I didn't have it but

JOVAN'S POVThe cabin was supposed to be safenthat's what Lorenzo kept saying. "No one knows about this place. It's just us and Marcus. We can breathe here."It was 2 AM when I heard movement from outside the cabin. Footsteps? Maybe or my imagination. Or—I sat up in bed, heart pounding hard agains

  • Captive To The Mafia Lord   Chapter 58

JOVAN'S POVI woke up in Lorenzo's bed for the second time. The first time had been last night—passing out after sex, too exhausted to move. The second time was now, morning light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Lorenzo's arm heavy across my waist.Maybe I should have panicked a lit

JOVAN'S POVThe Meridian Q3 file had been open on my screen for forty minutes and I’d read exactly one page of it. One page forty minutes. I used to get through an entire quarterly review before my first coffee went cold and now I was sitting here reading the same paragraph about projected yield o
