Standing before her was her ex-boyfriend, the same man who had heartlessly dumped her the very day she was abducted. Betty could hardly breathe, the realization that he played a role in her nightmare made her world spin. Her life from her childhood was beginning to play before her, she felt like a pawn on someone else’s board.

Forced to her knees before him, her hope withered. She felt utterly powerless at the mercy of the man she once thought loved her.

Thomas held a burning cigar, exhaling a cloud of smoke with a look of smug satisfaction.

"You two... know each other?" Betty whispered, turning her eyes toward her guard. "So it was you? all along?"

"Oh, sweet Betty," Thomas teased, his voice dripping with mockery. "You’ve always been unlucky, haven't you? From the day you were born, your fate was sealed for doom."

Betty stared at him, struggling to process the betrayal. "Thomas? What are you doing here?"

He laughed, a cold, jarring sound. "What do you think? You’ve always been so

He pressed a deep, lingering kiss to her lips and her eyes widened in surprise. She wanted to push him away to exact her point that she no longer needed his love, but she couldn’t control how her body reacted to the feeling the taste of his lips left on her. Though stunned by the suddenness of his reaction, Betty leaned into it, it was exactly what she needed in that moment. That kiss…it made her world feel like a whole, everything felt forgotten and forgiven at that moment and all that mattered was her body underneath the heated tension of his. Her eyes had flown wide in surprise when he first moved, but as the kiss deepened, she allowed them to flutter shut, savoring the sensation. When Mateo attempted to pull back to catch her expression, she hooked her legs around him, anchoring him in place. Like giving him a warning not to dare, he had started it but she wanted to keep it going. Seeing her hunger, he dissolved into her embrace, leaning his weight into her, a grounding force agai

When he walked in, he looked at the bruised maid and turned back to Betty in rage. “Was any of this necessary?" His eyes fixed on her bruised face, but Betty ignored him, feeling superior with the gun in her hand. She walked past him to her bed and sat on it, holding the gun behind the maid's head. "I warned you ….. there’ll be consequences, I'm not here for your games, Mateo," she said with boldness. "You better tell me all I need to know, or… I might do something you wouldn't like." Mateo was torn between believing her words and calling her bluff, but seeing how quickly and brutally she had changed, she wasn’t the old Betty he could easily manipulate, he didn't want to risk anything. He walked towards the table and placed the box on it. “That's why I'm here, Betty... but I can't tell you all that with her presence," he tried to sound convincing, but Betty seemed even moreenraged pressing the gun harder on the maid’s head. "You really don't know, you have no choice," she counte

Betty watched as the bullet whizzed past her face and hit the wall. She stared at the wall where it landed, recognizing the spot as the same angle the bullets had been shot during the night of the attack. The memory flooded her mind, but before she could process it, the maid swung the gun hard at her chin, sending her crashing to the floor, the blow was unexpected, everywhere looked blurry but she still retained consciousness with her mouth and nose bleeding from the attack. She touched her nose, wiping away the blood, then looked back at the maid, who was trying to flee. In fury, Betty lunged forward, she grabbed the maid’s leg, dragging the maid's leg and brought her crashing down. The gun skittered across the floor in the opposite direction, out of reach. Betty dragged the maid to the chair and forced her to sit.She removed her scarf and tied the maid's hands to the chair, securing her tightly, there was no way she could escape. Feeling satisfied with her handwork, she turned to t

"Yes?" she answered respectfully to the knock, hoping to see Mateo. She smoothed her red gown, facing the door with her hands clasped together in front of her like a poised hostess. But her expression changed as she saw who stood before her. "Ma'am?" the maid said shyly as she opened the door gently, she walked in slowly, noticing the disappointment written all over Betty’s face. "I'm sorry ma’am, I was going to ask if you need anything?" the maid continued.Betty dropped her hands in disappointment.“I never sent for you..” she replied her in a coldtone then signaled for the maid to leave giving her a dismissive look. As the maid turned to leave, Betty called out to her.“How is everyone?" she asked, in regards of the chaos she caused the previous night. The maid smiled lightly and lowered her head.“Ma'am, we're fine... we always are, we always have been”. She spoke with a smiling gesture and a soft tone.Betty's face softened in comfort and relief. Feeling safe that her acti

Mateo stood alone in the center of the training field, watching her leave. He looked toward the horizon, his mind anchored on her. It was terrifying how much she had changed in a matter of days. He knew, with a heavy ache in his chest, that this new hardness was the scar tissue of trauma. The woman he once knew was being consumed by the fire of everything she had endured. For the longest time, Mateo believed that silence was his greatest weapon that by keeping his feelings locked away, he was keeping her safe. He realized now, with the bitter taste of regret, how wrong he had been. His distance hadn’t protected her, it had only pushed her into the shadows where he couldn't see her, couldn't reach her, and ultimately, couldn't shield her. His calculated coldness had cost him everything the unwavering trust of his men and the fragile, confessed love she had once offered him.Standing in the biting wind, he wished he could reach into the past and undo the rejection. He wanted to take bac

Mateo braced himself as Betty’s fingers tightened on the trigger. He wanted to dodge her shot but he noticed her hand direction wasn’t accurate, she missed. The shot rang out, a deafening crack that tore through the silence, but the bullet buried itself into the aiming board behind him at the distance. He didn't flinch. Instead, he fixed her with a stern, piercing gaze, thinking if her acts was a deliberate action or she was simply unpracticed? “The next shot will go through your head,” Betty told him with intense boldness. Her voice didn't shake. Mateo studied her. He saw the raw pain in her eyes heavy with unshed tears that refused to fall, as if her grief had finally turned to stone. A new, colder side of Betty was unfolding before him, and the transformation chilled him more than the barrel of her gun ever could. “Is this what you mean by all I’ll be begging for your mercy? Threats?” Mateo asked in an inquiry tone but she still stood with her gun faced at him.“I remember telli
