The east sunroom was draped in golden afternoon light, filtering through sprawling floor-to-ceiling glass archways. Steam rose lazily from a delicate porcelain tea set resting on a glass table. My mother, Queen Eleanor, sat in a velvet high-backed chair, her spine straight as a blade, her silver-threaded hair pinned into a flawless royal crown braid.
"Sit, Leo," she commanded softly, not bothering to lift her eyes from the silk tapestry she was embroidering.
I didn't sit. I stood near the archway, resting one hand inside my coat pocket, feeling the small, velvet box containing Ivy's sapphire pendant against my palm. "Sir Desmond said you summoned me, Mother. I have a long drive back to my estate."
Queen Eleanor set down her needle and finally looked up. Her cold, sharp amber eyes, so similar to my own scanned my face, searching for any sign of tiredness.
"I received word from the High Council this morning," she began, her tone measured, every word calculated. "Alpha Marcus Ashworth sent an official petition to the elders regarding the girl you are harboring. I am going to say this once, Leo: do not make enemies with the Ashworth pack over this. They hold significant territorial power along our northern borders, and their military strength is not something to casually dismiss."
A harsh, bitter laugh escaped my throat before I could stop it.
"No, Mother," I said, my voice dropping an octave, heavy with a cold, simmering Alpha authority. "Marcus should be the one trembling in his boots right now. Because he made the fatal mistake of tormenting and abandoning the mother of my child."
"You don’t understand, Leo," my mother warned, her brow furrowing into a tight, severe line as she set her tea cup down with a sharp clink. "Marcus is a very dangerous and unreasonable man."
"Why?" I interrupted smoothly, taking a deliberate step toward her table. "Because he plays dirty? Because of the Blood Rage serum that’s been secretly circulating around our kingdom's lower territories?"
Queen Eleanor’s breath hitched, her fingers tightening slightly around her linen napkin, though she expressions remained calm.
"I know he has a hand in it, Mother," I continued, my gaze locking onto hers with unyielding force. "I know he's funding the distribution of that toxic serum to destabilize border packs. And as Crown Prince, I will put a complete end to it…and anybody that stands in my way."
"I did not say you should not do your duty as Prince," Queen Eleanor countered sharply, her voice rising a bit. "Of course you must protect our borders! But I do not want you acting out of blind, emotional rage. As the future King, you must never make critical political decisions based on your personal feelings. Yes, Marcus hurt Ivy. Yes, her past is tragic. But do not make her personal problems yours, Leo. You cannot afford to burn down kingdom alliances over a rogue girl's grievances!"
"Mother," I said softly, the quiet intensity in my tone halting her words instantly. "Her problems became mine the very second I saw her being dragged through the dirt like a common thief out of her own pack... by her own family."
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the sunroom.
Queen Eleanor stared at me for a long, agonizing moment. The sharp, unyielding queen seemed to falter just a fraction, replaced by a mother looking at a son whose resolve she could no longer bend or break. She looked down at her hands, the silence stretching between us until even the ticking clock on the wall felt unnaturally loud.
Finally, she let out a long, quiet breath and looked up.
"Your coronation is in two months, you know that right?" she asked quietly, her eyes searching mine.
I didn't answer. I kept my jaw set, my expression unreadable.
"Focus on becoming King, Leo," she requested softly, her voice carrying a rare, raw plea. "That is all I ask of you. Do not give the elders a reason to challenge your crown."
"I heard what you said, Mother," I replied quietly.
I offered her a formal, low bow…respectful of her title, but distant from her plea. Without waiting for her dismissal, I turned on my heel and walked out of the sunroom, my heavy boots echoing down the quiet marble corridor.
As I stepped back out into the cool evening air where my car was waiting, the tension in my shoulders slowly began to ease. I pulled the velvet box from my pocket, running my thumb over the smooth fabric.
I didn't care about their crowns, their council politics, or their postponed coronations. Let them delay it as long as they wanted. I was heading home to my mate.
IVY’S POVThe quiet hum of the laptop fan was the only sound echoing through Leo’s spacious study. I sat comfortably on the soft leather sofa, the computer resting on my lap as I casually scrolled through the local news and wolf-community blogs, looking for any updates on high-society fashion for the upcoming Apex Gathering. Then, my finger froze over the trackpad.Right at the top of the trending entertainment page was a high-resolution photograph taken just hours ago inside the Royal Palace lobby. It showed Leo standing in his crisp black suit, looking impossibly broad and handsome, while a strikingly breathtaking woman stood close to him. She was laughing, her manicured hand resting intimately on his forearm, leaning into his space as if she belonged there. The glaring headline above the photo read:"High-Society Lovebirds Reunite? Lady Celeste and Crown Prince Leo Spotted Sharing an Intimate Moment Ahead of the Apex Gathering!"A sudden, sharp wave of heat flared deep in my chest.

LEO’S POV"He has lost his damned mind," I growled, slamming my palm down onto the heavy mahogany desk. The mahogany rattled under the force of my Alpha aura, sending a tremble through the glass bottle resting on the tray beside me.Beta Sam and my Delta, Mark, stood across from me in the sunlit study, both holding rigid, defensive postures."What gives Marcus Ashworth the absolute guts to demand her return?" I continued, my voice dangerously low, vibrating with a dark, suffocating rage. "After what they did to her? If I didn’t arrive on time she may have died. He threw her away like trash, and now he dares to send a formal high-court summons demanding his 'rogue ward' back for pack questioning?""Leo, He’s playing a game," Sam said calmly, though his jaw was tightly set. "Marcus is a ruthless political snake. He knows pack law gives an Alpha leverage over unbonded pack members. He knows it is enough to stir up trouble in the High Council. He wants something.""Or someone is pulling h
LEO’S POV"I have a meeting at the high palace today, my love," I said, setting my teacup down on the small plate. "I will leave soon, and I probably will not be back until late tonight."Across the table, Ivy stopped eating. Her dark eyes grew big, and a tiny, cute pout formed on her soft lips. The sad look on her face filled my chest with warm love.I could not help but laugh softly. She was so sweet."Do not worry, I will come back as fast as I can," I promised, giving her a gentle look.I turned to the butler standing by the door. "Tell the driver to bring the car to the front right now.""Yes, Your Highness," the butler bowed and left quickly.I finished my food, wiped my mouth with a napkin, and stood up. Ivy watched me as I walked around the table. I leaned down, held her soft cheek, and kissed her sweet lips. She gasped softly against my mouth, her sweet scent of strawberries filling the air around me.I wanted so badly to cancel my meetings and stay with her, but I forced mys
IVY’S POV"One, two, three. One, two, three," Doctor Rachel counted, clapping her hands to the slow sound of the metronome on the table. "Keep your back straight, Ivy! Keep your head up and relax your shoulders!"Sweat was wet on the back of my neck as I tried not to trip over my long dress. My maid, Lucy, was playing the role of my dance partner, holding her hands out to pretend she was a big Alpha man. Every time I stepped forward, I accidentally stepped on Lucy’s toe."I am so sorry, Lucy!" I squeaked, stopping immediately and hiding my face in my hands."Oh, please do not worry, Lady Ivy!" Lucy laughed, smoothing down her apron. "My feet have seen much worse than your soft shoes, I promise."Doctor Rachel put down her paper board and walked over, handing me a cool, wet towel. "Take a deep breath, Ivy. Your whole body is stiff as a board. Royal dancing is not supposed to be a hard march. It should look easy, like you are floating across the floor on a cloud.""It does not feel like
IVY’S POVI didn’t know the movie I chose was this erotic.Leo was sitting a little distance away from me on the large living room couch. Since the movie started, he had not said a single word. I had read the quick synopsis earlier and picked what was supposed to be a funny action film, but I certainly didn't expect it to have any explicit scenes. I desperately hoped it wouldn't last long.I tried focusing on the screen, but I felt my face instantly heat up as I watched the male lead lift the female character into his arms and carry her aggressively toward the bed.I turned to look at Leo, only to find that he was already looking at me.My cheeks burned fiercely, and I quickly turned away, staring back at the screen. I gasped in shock as the male character began removing her clothes right there. This was getting so much worse.A low, deep chuckle echoed beside me."You didn’t know when you chose the movie, right?" Leo asked, his voice filled with amusement.I buried my face in my hand
