Cassie's POV

I followed the two women with zero interest in what Lucien had instructed them to do, but I couldn't deny that Sandra really seemed nice and easygoing. Her freely expressed herself surprised me though because believe me when I say that everyone that worked for Lucien moved like a hypnotised human.

“I'm so sorry I wasn't able to make it on time,” she turned to me when she probably noticed that I wasn't going to talk to her. “I should have been here earlier, but I wasn't anywhere near the city,” she explained with a charming smile.

Hmm… I think I knew why she was this free to talk. She was definitely Lucien’s mistress. Of course with those legs, body and aura, she was definitely Lucien’s priced possession in bed.

“It's fine,” I forced a smile.

Mirian cleared her throat, pushing open the door for us to work in. I used the brief seconds I had after Sandra had walked on to tell her how much I wanted to be alone, but she could only pretend not to hear me.

Carter's POV “Yes boss” I picked the call“How is everything going?” The deep, hoarse voice came from the other side.“Everything is in order” I replied to him“And her?” He asked calmly and I knew instantly who he was referring to.“She's okay” I gritted my teeth as I replied.“How is the search for Elena going? Any progress?” I continued, changing the topic.“My men are working hard to find her. I won't be back until we make progress with the search. Until then, take care of the clan and take care of her. I'm hanging up now” he said and hung up immediately. What exactly does he see in Cassie? How exactly has she trapped him? I guess I have to find out for myself then.Game on.Cassia's POV I woke up to the sun shining brightly on my face. I was so tired and just wanted to lay in bed all day. But who am I kidding? I'm just a captive here. I don't have that right to be free around here. ‘Knock knock’I heard a knock from the door.“Come on in” I groaned, pulling the covers over my

Cassia’s POVSomething in me, just something told me Carter was up to no good. Why the sudden change of character? I just couldn't help but to be very careful around him.I heard the door open, it was Miriam, she looked somewhat awkward like something happened out there.“Are you okay?” I asked with genuine concern. She nodded, still awkward around me. “I brought you lunch” she said as she dropped the tray on the table beside the bedstand. “I’ll come take the plates once you're done” she said and immediately hurried out of the room shutting the door behind her.Strange, really strange. Just when I thought things were getting better between us. I hope she's okay though. I stood up from the bed and strode to the bathroom to have my shower recalling back to how I had the panic attack at the garden. The last time I had a panic attack was when I was 12.*Flashback, 11 years ago*The house was too quiet that afternoon. The kind of silence that made my skin crawl, heavy and thick, like the

  • Cassia, The Billionaire's Collateral   Chapter Thirty-five— Friends?

Cassie's POV My eyes flutter open with two familiar faces staring down at me. I tried to recall exactly how I ended up in Lucien’s room when I bravely remembered leaving the garden.“Are you alright?” Mirian’s voice wasn't only shaky because right across from her was Carter, but because I obviously happened to scare two people to death today.“My throat feels dry,” I reached my hand to rub it. Thank goodness. My limbs were alive and well.Mirian handed me a glass of water and helped me to sit up. Afterwards, she rubbed palms on her apron and left without saying a word. A part of me almost called for her to stay or take Carter away with her, but I couldn't. I wasn't in any way equipped for any form of exchange between me and Carter.Luckily for me, he hadn't said a word unless he did with his eyes. If that was the case, then it's a good thing my ears didn't listen when his eyes spoke. I turned away from him, deciding to go back into whatever I had woken up from, but as I watched the l

Cassie’s POVI couldn’t do better the next day than to hope for Mirian as soon as possible so that I could ask her the questions only she could give honest answers to. I also tried to convince myself that Carter had completely gone nuts, so it wouldn’t be such a big offence if I ignored him throughout today.Unfortunately, that would be if he were that easy to ignore or if he’d even show up today considering how yesterday went.“Good morning, Mirian,” I breathed out, very confident that she was the one behind the door. Thankfully, I wasn’t proven wrong either. She made her way to the side of the bed, serving me oats this time alongside some toasts with avocados.“See you in the afternoon?”Her invitation wasn’t quite what I was expecting, so I swallowed my plea for her to come right after I was done with breakfast.“Are you busy or did something happen?”“Yeah, I’ve got a lot of work to do this morning and I’m sure that I’d be too busy working my ass off to pay attention to you or mak

Cassie's POV “Thank you for agreeing to spend the time with me today. It means a lot,” I told her genuinely. She nodded and quietly retreated to her duty post. I climbed the bed deciding to read, but not because I wanted to. It was because I was looking for a good distraction. Something to help me forget all that I'd learned within thirty minutes. Of course she would return with my lunch, and this time, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to know more than I do already. Picking, taking a cold shower over reading, I quickly pulled off my clothes and submerged my body into the filled tub.I let the silence and fragrance do whatever it wanted with me until I lost sense of everything going in around me.***“Cassie!” I wouldn't mistake that voice for anyone's, but then, it took my several blinks to make out where I was.Shit!“Cassie, where are the fuck are you?!” This time, it was louder than the first which only meant that he was close to the closet. I stepped out of the tub and tied a

  • Cassia, The Billionaire's Collateral   Chapter Thirty-two— Very Close

Cassie's POV It's been two days since I had to deal with anything annoying from Carter. I know it should have made me feel relieved, but it didn't. I feel more alarmed than I've ever felt since the universe pulled me into these four walls.I've made the novels I got a good company though, but looking up to seeing Mirian was something I had figured kept me going too. I heard a knock on the door then quickly went for it without doubting for a second who it was.“Good morning, Mirian,” my voice was sharp and lively.“Good morning, Cassie,” hers still held a bit of caution to them. I waved it off and locked the door behind us. Being nice to me was more risky to her than it was to me, so I went along whichever way it wanted. As long as… I didn't frighten her.She placed the tray in the usual spot and expected her to say something, but she just smiled.“Is there something I need to know?” My brow is arched. My ears, itching for answers too.“It's good news,” she finally announced. “Carter
