Chapter 2

Chicken Nuggets
Hearing that, I immediately struggled with everything I had. However, the two men holding me were unbelievably strong. No matter how hard I fought, it was useless. If anything, my resistance only earned me a few more blows.

I forced my mouth open, using every bit of strength I had left to ask, “Who sent you?”

“Who sent us?” Mandy lifted my chin with the tip of her high heel. “Think about whose husband you’ve been messing with.”

She shoved her phone in front of me. The livestream had over ten thousand viewers.

[This is wild. She totally looks like a seductress, and the guy looks successful. This is a classic case of a gold digger trying to climb up the ranks.]

[Beat her up! I hate women who tear families apart!]

[Oh my, that bag is one of only ten in the world. She really knows how to please her sugar daddy for him to buy her that.]

I stared at the screen in shock. I didn’t understand how strangers could have so much hatred for someone they didn’t even know.

“Which bag?” Mandy picked up the one I had placed on the table and examined it. “This one?”

Before I could react, she took out a lighter and held the flame against it. My heart dropped. I loved collecting bags, and that one was especially expensive. I struggled even harder, my heart aching as if it were bleeding.

“Hit her.” Mandy glanced at me and said, “Why’s she so upset if it’s not even hers? Who does she think she is, carrying the same bag as a five-million-follower streamer like me?”

In the next second, two men pinned me down and started punching and kicking me. I curled up to shield myself, but I couldn’t even move.

I didn’t understand. All I’d done was come here because the company’s conference room had a leak. I just needed a quiet place to discuss business. How had it turned into this?

They dragged me up and forced me to kneel in front of Mandy. I was terrified. I’d never experienced anything like this before.

I begged, “Whoever paid you, I’ll give you double. Just let us go–”

Mandy sneered. “Do you hear that, everyone? The mistress wants to bribe me with her sugar daddy’s money. What should I do?”

The comments exploded again.

[How shameless. She’s addicted to spending a man’s money, huh?]

[Who even knows where her money comes from. This is disgusting.]

[Mandy, hit her harder!]

A viewer immediately liked and subscribed to her channel with a comment. [Hit her for ten minutes straight!]

Mandy’s eyes lit up. She clapped her hands excitedly. “Thank you for subscribing to my channel! Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she gets the full ten minutes!”

More comments flooded in, and one question briefly surfaced. [Why are you only hitting the woman and not the guy?]

Unfortunately, it was quickly buried under the wave of messages.

Suddenly, fists and kicks rained down on me from all directions. I couldn’t even move anymore. I looked at that comment and then glanced at Zack, who was still untouched, only tied up. My heart sank into despair, and I instinctively protected my stomach. There was something I hadn’t told him yet.

By then, Mandy had even started playing music. The livestream viewers watched wildly as if this were entertainment. I begged for mercy, blood covering my face, my body barely holding on.

Mandy yanked me up and then slapped me hard across the face, saying, “Thanks for the heart, my fan! This slap is from you.”

I had no idea how many times I’d been hit when I finally saw a cleaning lady standing at the doorway. Mandy and her group must have drawn attention from the hallway when they bust in earlier.

With the last of my strength, I shouted, “Miss! Please call the police! Please help me. I’m not a mistress!”

The kind-faced woman hesitated, taking a step forward, but Mandy shot her a cold glance.

“I suggest you mind your own business. I know Mr. Benson, the manager at this hotel. If you interfere, you won’t like the consequences.”

I looked at Mandy. I knew the owner of this hotel, too. In fact, it belonged to my company.

I forced myself to speak, struggling through the pain. “I know the manager, too. Call him over. We can talk this out, okay?”

I had no dignity left. Tears streamed down my face as I begged.

Mandy laughed. “You know the manager? What, is he one of your former clients? You really get around, don’t you?”

Then, she glanced at Zack, who still couldn’t move, and continued, “See that? Your mistress is someone else’s mistress, too. Careful, you might catch something.”

“No…” My voice was barely a whisper. All I could do was cry.

I turned my gaze back to the cleaning lady at the door, clinging to the last bit of hope. “Miss, please help me. I promise you won’t lose your job…”

Those words drained the last of my strength.

The woman was about to step inside when a younger cleaner beside her stopped her.

“Why believe anything a mistress says? What benefit could she give you? People like that deserve to be beaten. Let’s just pretend we didn’t see anything.”

  • Catch Gone Wrong   Chapter 8

I sat back in my office chair, scrolling through the comments. I asked, “Chris, did you manage to catch the people who were stirring up trouble in the live chat?”“Yes, they’ve all been caught and sued. Now we just wait for the verdict. The female influencer got sentenced to three years. As for Zack, he was only detained for a few days before being released.”I nodded and leaned toward Chris. “Once Zack gets out, find someone to give him a proper beating in a corner.”I hadn’t fired him. I just wanted him to learn his lesson the hard way.Just then, my mom called me on an international line. “Liana, I’m getting tired here. When can we finally come home?”I glanced at the calendar. “Mom, just hang on for another two weeks!”Two weeks later, the ownership transfer press conference took place as scheduled. The West Group incident had made headlines everywhere, and reporters crowded the room even before the press conference started.By then, my injuries had recovered, and I sat do

“What’s going on? Can’t you handle something so small?” Zack walked out, sounding impatient, and froze when he saw the scene outside.“That’s Zack,” I said, pointing at him as he finally showed up. “Zack, I just got here and noticed this influencer, the one who hit me earlier, was looking for you. Do you two know each other? Aren’t you supposed to deal with her? Why is she still here?”Zack’s expression shifted. He quickly stepped forward to steady me before nodding politely at the media.“I don’t know her. Didn’t I say I’d handle it? That’s why I asked her to come to the company to talk.” He looked at me gently and added, “Anything involving you, I always take seriously.”Mandy, standing off to the side, stared at him in shock. Sometimes I really wondered, being an influencer, did she not read anything online at all? Or did she only pay attention to celebrity gossip?I nodded, as if understanding. “Oh, I see. In that case, since she’s here, let’s just call the police. I’ve had my

Zack had planned everything from the start. On Valentine’s Day, just as I received the signed documents, Mandy grew suspicious of West Group, and without hesitation, Zack sent over his employee badge. Right there on it, in bold letters, it read: CEO of West Group.I hadn’t expected him to go as far as to prepare a fake badge in advance.[You said it yourself. You told me to beat her half to death. I admit you’ve helped me a lot, but you can’t just turn your back on me like this.]I felt a wave of frustration and quickly typed back. [Then come to West Group tomorrow. Bring your screen recording along.]Mandy replied almost immediately, confused. [I’ve never been there. I don’t even know what you look like. How am I supposed to look for you? What time?]That made sense. With how cautious Zack was, there was no way he would’ve let Mandy know who I really was. And if Chris hadn’t told me anything, I probably wouldn’t have looked into it either.I was still absentmindedly picking at m

I pulled out my phone and called Chris. On the other end, he sounded like he was about to cry.“Miss West… are you okay?”“Did Mr. Tim say something to you?” I got straight to the point.“He told me not to tell you anything,” Chris choked out. “All he said was that you didn’t need me anymore. And the new project… It’s been handed over to his team.”My gaze turned cold. Zack had underestimated the loyalty of the people around me. He thought a little temptation would be enough to make them betray me, but he was wrong. I had pulled Chris out of the worst circumstances and trained him myself.“Mr. Tim wants to take over this project, gain the board’s trust, and officially take control of the company,” Chris added, his voice trembling.“I see. Okay.” I nodded.Zack had ambition, but no real grasp of the situation. After all, I hadn’t told him everything. I had originally planned to tell him on Valentine’s Day that the board had issued the appointment letter and decided that I would t

When Mandy saw the comment, she casually grabbed a peach from the table and took a bite. “CEO of West Group? Yeah right. You’ve got the wrong person. Everyone knows I’ve got connections with the West Group. Their CEO is a man. If she were really from West Group, wouldn’t I recognize her?”Her gaze shifted and landed on the documents on the table.Heaven knows, Zack and I were only here to talk business. I had just received the project files today. We’d barely sat down and opened them when these people burst in. The company was on the rise, and at this critical point of ownership transition, the project meant everything to both of us.When I saw Mandy pick up the documents, my heart raced. My team and I had spent an entire month negotiating with the client to secure that contract. She glanced at it before holding it up toward the camera. “Look at this, everyone. These two cheaters are really putting on a show. They’re even roleplaying as boss and secretary. I regret it now. If I’d

“And besides, I heard Mandy has backing from West Group. We can’t afford to mess with that.”West Group? Since when had the company gotten involved in influencer media?Hearing the young cleaner say that, my heart sank. “That’s not true. Please, believe me–”Before I could finish, a man kicked me hard in the stomach. I doubled over in pain, clutching my abdomen.“That’s too much talking,” Mandy snapped, shooting me an annoyed look. Then, she turned to the cleaner at the door and said, “I suggest you stay out of this, or I’ll put you online too. Do you even know how many followers I have?”The young cleaner gave a small smile. “Please, go on.”With that, she quietly shut the hotel room door. I struggled harder, but the moment the door clicked shut, my heart dropped.Mandy muttered under her breath for a second, then instantly switched expressions.“Sorry about that, everyone. It’s just a minor interruption. To make it up to you all, I’ve got a little bonus segment.”She turned
