“Excuse me.” A robust nurse said as she walked into Laurel’s hospital room. “There’s a big bouquet for Laurel Gilbert.”

“That’s me!” Laurel spoke excitedly, spilling some of the broth Desmond was feeding her. “Sorry.” She said to Desmond as he cleaned some broth off his shirt with a napkin.

Another nurse carried a massive bouquet of roses into the room. Olivia stared at the flowers suspiciously for several seconds before plucking the note in the middle.

“Hope to see you soon, baby girl. I love you, always. Love, daddy.” Olivia read. “It’s Sebastian’s writing.”

“That is sweet of daddy.” Laurel spoke offhandedly, scooping another spoonful of broth. “But I prefer tulips.”

Of course Sebastian did not even know his daughter’s favorite flowers. He had never sent her flowers since she got sick, and Olivia wondered why he was doing so now. Especially since they were to go to court for the last time, in a couple of hours.

“It is still nice of him.” Oli

Olivia watched as Sebastian and Desmond stared each other down furiously. Dinner was set to be a disaster. She should have known that Sebastian would also be invited, the Gilberts and the Colberts were old friends. “This is my girlfriend, Caroline Sands.” Sebastian introduced his mistress turned girlfriend to Miranda Colbert. Everyone in the room was paying attention to them. “Oh, she is a sweet looking young lady.” Miranda complimented. “And you already put a bun in the oven! Faster than the last, huh.” Sebastian laughed. “She is the one for me. The real love of my life.” “You are not going to rush into marriage again, are you?” Miranda teased, a jab at Olivia and their highly publicized divorce. “Lest you lose half of your company this time.” Sebastian smiled a tight lipped smile. “Never.” Desmond placed a palm on Olivia’s thigh. “Are you okay?” He asked. Olivia nodded. “I’m going to have a word with Miranda right after this dinner.”

The nurses pumped and poked Laurel full of injections while Olivia and Desmond watched in silence and slight horror. The little girl was fast asleep, while receiving several medications. Her hair was thinning out very fast and her skin was only getting paler. From the look of it, Laurel was not getting any better. “This is not right.” Olivia spoke to Desmond, who sat in an arm chair, watching the nurses attend to Laurel. “She does not look good at all.” Olivia said, gesturing towards the sick child. “Yeah, that is because she has stage four cancer.” Desmond replied. “She’s very ill.” He stated the obvious. Olivia moved to stand in front of him. “She is not getting any better, can’t you see that?” She asked, frustrated. “That is because this is cancer she’s dealing with. At a fatal stage.” Desmond spoke slowly. “All they can do is manage her condition for now.” It seemed to him that Olivia was in denial of just how severe Laurel’s condition was and the fa

Desmond watched, transfixed, as Olivia spoke about him. He had managed to stay away from her for several days, against his desires, and only watched the televised court case whilst wishing her the best. She had played him for a fool with the help of her lawyers. Naturally, he was furious. But he loved her and perhaps, because it was his first time falling in love, he desperately wanted to be with her, regardless of her deceit. Watching her speak about him with what he understood to be love and pride, convinced him that it was time to return home. The universe was playing a cruel joke, Desmond thought. He had committed his whole life to getting revenge on Priscilla Gilbert for ruining his life, yet all of that was forgotten the moment he fell in love with Olivia. Desmond decided it was time to leave the hotel and return to his artistic mansion. When he got home, Olivia was noticeably absent. She was probably still at court. Desmond hurried up to Laurel’s

  • Caught Between Two Billionaires    The Trial II

Olivia dialed Desmond’s phone number for the fifth time that morning. As expected, he did not answer the phone. She sighed, exasperated. Laurel had just returned to the hospital after staying in Desmond’s home for a week, and the little girl was constantly asking of him. Olivia knew she had wronged Desmond, but did she really deserve this punishment? She was going insane without him, with her lawyers pressuring her to bring Laurel to court as a witness, and reporters following her everywhere she went. Desmond would know how to tell the reporters off and make the lawyers respect her decision_ he had hired them, after all. Olivia was pleased to know that he still paid the lawyers and Laurel’s bills. Maybe he still cared. The courthouse appeared to be more crowded that morning, than during the first trial. Olivia was swarmed by reporters the moment she stepped out of the car. The trial started with witnesses from both sides, giving their testimonies. Oliv

Olivia held her head high as she made her way through the army of reporters outside the courthouse. She looked very confident in her tight, knee length corporate dress and simple diamond jewelry, no one would believe she almost had a panic attack before stepping out of the car. True to his word, Desmond had stayed away from her and had not returned to the house since their argument the previous morning. Today, she would begin her legal battle against the powerful Gilberts. She met with her lawyers and soon got seated in the court. The only person there to support her was Rob, who had shown up unexpectedly and whispered “I meant it when I said you’re never going to be alone again.” Oh, but how could she tell him that without Desmond, she felt hopelessly alone? Olivia despised herself for growing to love and need Desmond so much within such a short period of time. Sebastian and Priscilla, too, arrived at court in time. Olivia felt the heat of her husband’
