FAITH

Fire burned through my veins, and my vision swam as I stared at his tanned hand on her still-flat stomach.

There were numerous gasps of delight for an heir from the crowd, and I glanced around, wondering if maybe I had heard them wrong. Yet, as the horror and pity-filled faces reached me, I knew I hadn’t.

Sable smiled up at me from beneath her lashes, placing a hand atop his on her stomach before leaning into his side and fluttering her lashes at him as if they were newlyweds.

“What are you talking about?” I whispered to my mate, praying I had heard him wrong. There was no way he had been with Sable. “That’s impossible. I would have felt it.”

“I’m so sorry, Faith. It just happened.” Sable said before pushing her bottom lip out, her wide eyes filling with tears as she stared at me as if wanting my forgiveness.

“No! You can’t be pregnant.” I said, turning to Ryan before dropping my glare down to his hand still in hers. “She can’t be pregnant! Did you sleep with my sister?”

“Faith,” Ryan hissed, and I knew he was angry that I was speaking against him in front of Alpha Cain, but I didn’t care about that. The single syllable was enough to confirm he was speaking the truth. There was no denial or guilt there, only fury that I had the nerve to challenge him so publicly.

My heart felt like it was being ripped in two, and my body began to shake as the understanding and betrayal sank in.

No! No, Ryan wouldn’t have slept with my little sister! This had to be a bad dream!

How long had they been fooling around behind my back? How had I not felt it?

My wolf had been feeling weaker lately from him using my magic, but I never thought she was so weak that I wouldn’t feel him violating the sacred mate bond.

Now, I felt it. Hearing Ryan admit to cheating made my skin crawl, and my wolf released a loud howl in my mind, so raw and broken that it felt like my head was going to burst.

I tried to pull my hand free from his, his touch suddenly feeling like acid, burning my flesh, but he only tightened his hold.

“What have you done?” I whispered. I stared at him in horror as my body was consumed in agony.

I could feel my wolf rising, clawing at the inside of my brain, wanting to break free and attack my sister.

My little sister. How could she?

“What have you done?!” I asked Ryan again, the panic in my voice coming out more clearly as I shouted. I had given him everything I had. Every time I found a way to prove to him that I was enough, he just demanded more, but I had nothing more to give him.

“Faith, please, you have to understand. We love each other!” Sable whimpered, blinking rapidly at me as her eyes lined with tears.

They were fake. Fake tears… but they looked so real. How had I been so blind?

No wonder she had been so cocky about becoming a Luna. I had thought she was delusional to think she would be the one Alpha Cain fell for… the one who survived him.

But she never intended to be his mate. She had intended to steal mine.

“He’s my mate!” I shouted at her, stepping forward. “How could you do this to me?!”

I felt my wolf surface, my eyes burning hot with the need to spill her blood as my little sister looked down quickly in submission, shaking with fear, but I had seen the truth.

For a brief moment, she smirked with victory before hiding it quickly.

My eyes burned as they turned, and my nails and canines elongated as I instinctively began to shift, but I was struck down by a fierce blow to the side of my face.

Gasps erupted from the pack as I dropped to my knees.

The familiar tingles of Ryan’s touch made me freeze, and I grabbed my cheek with my free hand. Never before had he hit me in front of the pack.

All punishments had always been private until now.

“You dare to attack my pup?” Ryan growled down at me.

“No!” I shouted in denial, even though I had been. Sister or not, I wanted to gut her. It was a primal need to eliminate the threat to my relationship with my mate that I couldn’t resist.

Giving into that anger was the only thing preventing me from crumbling beneath the agony and betrayal threatening to rip me apart from the inside out.

“You have humiliated me for the last time.” Ryan hissed, and I gasped as he grabbed my hand tightly in his. “Alpha Cain, in honor of our friendship, it gives me great pleasure to solidify our alliance with the Blackstone pack. In doing so, I would like to present you with a white wolf, Faith Collins. May you be able to teach her the obedience that I could not.”

"You can't do this." I choked out, eyeing my mark on his neck.

"I am the Alpha. I can and will do what is best for my people! You have no right to question me!”

"You're my mate." I insisted weakly, and his eyes flickered down to my mark. Hope filled me as he briefly hesitated, but when he looked up once more to meet my stare, there was no guilt or shame in what he had or was doing. No love or regret.

There was nothing. He was trading me like he were just my owner, and I, an object…like I was expendable and not the woman he had claimed to love for the past few years.

"You are no longer of use to me. I, Alpha Ryan Jones of the Midnight Pack, reject you, Faith Collins, as my mate."

I doubled over, unable to hold myself up as fire burned through my veins, starting from my toes and moving up my body to Ryan's mark on my neck, where it intensified until I felt like I was about to burst into flames.

My wolf howled in pain as a stabbing pain tore through my chest, and my hands flew to it.

Alpha Cain chuckled, amused by the scene before him as I sobbed and gasped, clawing at my neck and chest as if I could dig the fire out of my body to extinguish it.

Alpha Cain bent over me, trapping me between him and Ryan. The smoky scent of cigar surrounded me and made me want to gag.

“Hm. She’s strong. It’s rare to see one remain conscious after a rejection.” The older wolf reached forward and pulled a curled strand of my hair forward with his meaty finger, wrapping it around and around as I tried to fight back my bile. "I am going to enjoy breaking you."

FAITH My wolf rose stronger at her submission, and I took a step away from Will as the shaking intensified. Even when I was the Luna of the Midnight Pack, no one had ever really, fully submitted to me. They only ever submitted to Ryan. Yet, one by one, the white wolves began to drop, and the bubbling of my power intensified beneath the surface of my skin as they did so, showing me their neck.“What is going on?” Will asked, and I shook my head, unsure. I still felt empty emotionally, and while I tried to reach for Kaiden, I couldn’t. My wolf and magic were too strong, taking over every part of my being until I had no choice. She needed to come out, and I needed to feel her, to know that she was real and that I hadn’t lost her. I couldn’t go another day without her now that I had her back, and if she was gong to show herself, I was going to let her be free, too.“Let’s go,” Will whispered, gently pulling at my bicep to keep me behind him. Still, I kept my line of sight on the army

FAITH“Faith, you have to stop! You’re going to kill them, and then they will never help us.” Will insisted, digging faster behind me. “Better them, than us,” I whispered as I stared them down. The world around them went fuzzy until the only thing I could see was my two victims. “You heard it yourself. They aren’t going to help us anyway.”Two victims at one time, and I wasn’t even touching them. It was as exhilarating as it was terrifying because I didn’t feel an ounce of strain. The usual feeling of being drained, the longer I exerted my magic, was absent, and I felt invincible. “At least free Joan so she can get us out of here.” He hissed, and I considered his request for only a moment before shaking my head. The second she was free, she could bury us alive, and there would be nothing I could do to stop it.“Stop!” An unfamiliar voice cried out, and the world snapped back into focus as several people rushed forward. Even if I wanted to stop, I couldn’t. I was fueled by anger an

FAITH“Wait!” I shouted as she turned to walk away, and was surprised when she actually paused. “What can I do to get just five minutes of your time? Please! Without your help, both of your children will die! Is that what you want?” “I would never wish harm to any of my children!” She shouted over her shoulder. I chuckled bitterly at the realization that she couldn’t even look at me as she said it. There was no conviction there, just irritation that I was accusing her of not caring. “No, you’re just turning your back on them!” I said, my hand smacking against my thigh as I dropped my hand in defeat.“Faith, shut up!" Will whispered, sounding scared, but I could hear him digging away, trying to free himself. I didn’t see a point. If Joan could drop us into the Earth at will, then digging us free would be futile. There was no point in struggling when the battle here was mental. If we couldn’t get through to them, we would die no matter what, and I refused to spend my last few minutes

FAITHWill slowed, coming to a stop just as the sun began to set. I looked around at the thick forest and felt the magic in the air. There was no doubt that we had made it, Will hadn’t turned on me, but I had no idea how to get onto their land. “I don’t think this is a good idea.” He said, grabbing my arm to make me stop walking. I followed his lead and glanced down, only to immediately step back as I saw the rune on the ground. "It's not." A woman called out, and I looked up to see her almost 50 yards away, watching us. She looked familiar, but she was clearly not happy to see us."Leave while you can," She warned. "We don't take well to strangers."But I wasn't a stranger, really. I had met her before, and she hadn't killed me then, so I couldn't see why she would kill me now.“You know me! You saved me from Cain when you blew up that outpost! Remember?” I shouted, trying to remember her name as she leaned against the tree with her arms crossed. June? Jade? “Joan! JOAN!”“I don’

FAITH“This is absurd,” I muttered as I pedaled the bike faster. Never in my life did I think I would have to steal a bicycle from one of the unshifted kids in the pack. Let alone one where my knees were almost hitting the handlebars. My thighs were burning, and my butt was hurting as I sped over the uneven ground. I knew where I needed to go, I just had to get there without leaving a trail for them to follow. I wasn’t sure how long I had been riding before I hit a dirt road and began down it, panting as sweat dripped down my face and back. The crunching of gravel beneath me was almost soothing as I hit a rhythm, moving faster than before on the smoother surface, the ride becoming easier.I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard a motorcycle approaching, and I quickly dove off the road heading for the trees once more as the engine cut off behind me. The sudden transition from worn, packed dirt to the rough and uneven landscape of the natural forest was jarring. “Faith!” The man

KAIDENMy chest tightened the further I felt Faith go, and I held Broderick’s stare. She was running, my good fucking girl. I knew she had been listening in, and I had wanted her to be aware of what was happening, but I hadn't expected things to turn so quickly. From the look that came over the others' faces, too, none of them had expected Broderick to pull a gun on me either. Yet, the smell of silver inside the chamber made my nose tingle, and I knew he had been planning this before he even arrived at my land. He knew I wouldn't hand her over, so he came prepared to take her, and that made me even angrier, even though he had been right. No one would be taking Faith from me. Once I got her back, she wouldn't even be leaving my side. She could run, but once it was safe for her to come out, I would find her. Juliana could track her blood, and I had my bond with her, so I would be bringing her home one way or another.I could only hope that she would find somewhere to hide out for th
