Now, fulfilling her duty to her pack, she’s forced into mating an evil man for a peace treaty, trapped in a fate she never chose. Only, before vows can be spoken, Faith is kidnapped by the most feared alpha of all, Alpha Kaiden Reed. He was her pack’s greatest enemy and thrived in chaos. I waved eagerly at my little sister, Sable, as she entered the ballroom. She looked stunning in her gown and walked with all the confidence of a queen as she strode toward me and my mate.
She looked so proud of the sacrifice she was making for the pack, but I was terrified for her since I knew the truth. White wolves were rare and often fought over between packs. It was rumored that we were descendants of wolves mating with witches, and for as long as I could remember, I had been told that it was an honor to be able to use our gifts to benefit and protect our people. I had been proud to turn eighteen and receive my gift, only to be devastated when I found out it was all a lie once they placed the cursed amulet on me. My hand moved to the necklace resting on my chest, thrumming with magic, connecting my power to my mate and locking it away from me. The delicate metal was thin, yet its enchantment made it just as strong as silver chains. No matter what I did, I couldn’t take it off, and I couldn’t resist the pull when Ryan used the matching amulet around his neck to take my power for himself. At least he was conscious of its effect on me when using my magic and was careful not to take too much at once. Sable’s fate was much worse. She had been betrothed to another Alpha, Alpha Cain. Ryan had wanted an alliance with him for years, and once Sable turned of age, Ryan jumped at the chance to use her as a bargaining chip to get what he wanted. Alpha Cain was a monster of a man with a reputation for his mates dying. I had my suspicions that he killed them, as did most, but he had never admitted to it. Sable would be mate number four, and the fact that his wolf survived one mate’s death, let alone three, was terrifying. No wolf should be that strong. Since learning of Ryan’s plan, I had begged him and prayed to the Goddess every day to spare Sable but my pleas had gone unanswered. “Alpha Jones,” Sable said, dipping her head to Ryan in submission, but instead of looking down, she held his gaze from beneath her lashes. My wolf stirred, not liking how she looked at him, but I knew she was just being arrogant. She had no idea what would happen to her, and I was under the Alpha’s command not to tell her. Sable thought she was a trophy to be gifted away and cherished… a queen when she was really only a pawn. She was young, foolish, and power-hungry, thinking she could change him and be the one to stand by his side as Luna. The double doors burst open loudly, making me jump as a swarm of warriors marched in. They had at least shown the decency of wearing suits, but they were late, loud, rude, and aggressive. I clenched Ryan’s hand tightly as the Blackstone Pack dispersed among the crowd. There was a chorus of feminine squeaks, muffled cries, and gasps of surprise as the warriors made themselves at home, grabbing and groping the women nearest them with deep masculine laughter that promised their victims’ misery. Surely, we could find a better ally, but no matter how often I approached Ryan about it, he told me not to overstep. He was the rightful Alpha, but even as his Luna, I was nothing more than a prisoner. A slave to be used whenever he wanted. “Please don’t do this to her, Ryan,” I whispered, and he turned to glare at me. I knew it wasn’t the right time. We had fought about this too many times to count, but this was my last chance. “She’s only eighteen. She isn’t strong enough to survive him.” Alpha Cain wasn’t just violent. He was old enough to be our father or, potentially even our grandfather. Some people made age gaps that large work, but Sable was innocent. Until today, she had always acted shy around men and stood close to Ryan and me for support. Whenever they would approach her, she would blush and look away, refusing to entertain them. "This is not the time, nor is it your place," Ryan growled down at me, and I nodded, lowering my head slightly. It wasn't enough to submit, but it calmed him for now. “Alpha Jones,” Alpha Cain said from behind me. His deep voice washed over me, and I had to resist the urge to shiver in fear. Just hearing his voice made me feel like the tip of a blade was being dragged down my spine. He didn’t bother to address me or Sable. He never acknowledged the women around him. In the short time that we had been working with his pack, they had made it clear that women should speak only when spoken to and were only good for breeding, cooking, and cleaning. It was archaic and despicable. “Glad you could make it,” Ryan said with a broad smile as he shook Alpha Cain’s large and scarred hand. The scar running down his cheek glinted in the light as if there was a shard of metal still in there from whatever had caused it, and his right eye was a lighter color than his left from the injury. “Oh, I wouldn’t miss this.” Alpha Cain said, looking my little sister up and down before doing the same to me. It was disrespectful for him to do so when I was a mated woman and even more so for him to do it when his betrothed was standing right next to me, but he had no shame as he licked his lips. He didn’t care about her. He only wanted her power. It was the same thing every wolf wanted from us. “Wonderful. Then, I say we make this quick so we can go on celebrating the good news.” Ryan said, holding his empty hand out to Sable. She placed hers in it, glancing at me from the corner of her eye before my mate guided the two of us to the center of the room. The dancing stopped, and the room went silent as our people stared eagerly, waiting for the news. The pack dipped their heads in respect before Ryan spoke. “Thank you all for coming!” Ryan said, his voice carrying through the room as he glanced around. “It is an honor to have the Blackstone Pack with us tonight to celebrate our new alliance. Alpha Cain, in honor of our union, I would like to present you with a peace offering to unite our two packs permanently.” I looked at Sable, seeing her gaze locked firmly on Ryan. She was refusing to even look at Alpha Cain, and I wished I could walk over and comfort her, but I had an image to uphold as Luna. “However, there has been a slight change in plans,” Ryan said, and I looked at him quickly as hope flooded through me. Had he finally heard me and reconsidered giving her away? He dropped my hand, placing his on Sable’s stomach before meeting my eyes with a smirk. “The intended offering, Sable, is carrying my pup and will need to remain here. I hope you can understand, but I assure you that you will be pleased with her replacement.”KAIDENMy chest tightened the further I felt Faith go, and I held Broderick’s stare. She was running, my good fucking girl. I knew she had been listening in, and I had wanted her to be aware of what was happening, but I hadn't expected things to turn so quickly. From the look that came over the others' faces, too, none of them had expected Broderick to pull a gun on me either. Yet, the smell of silver inside the chamber made my nose tingle, and I knew he had been planning this before he even arrived at my land. He knew I wouldn't hand her over, so he came prepared to take her, and that made me even angrier, even though he had been right. No one would be taking Faith from me. Once I got her back, she wouldn't even be leaving my side. She could run, but once it was safe for her to come out, I would find her. Juliana could track her blood, and I had my bond with her, so I would be bringing her home one way or another.I could only hope that she would find somewhere to hide out for th
FAITH Within a few minutes of Kaiden leaving, I was dressed and opening the hidden panel in the wall by our bed. If he thought I wasn’t going to follow him and be a part of this, he was so wrong. Even if I wasn’t directly in the conversation, they were discussing my life and my future. He should damn well expect me to want to hear what was said about whether I would live or die.I moved through the walls silently, counting each turn until I reached the stairs and then tracked the rooms I was passing with my fingers trailing across the dirty wall. When I reached where I thought the briefing room should be, I pressed my ear to it, listening closely for a moment, and was relieved to hear Kaiden’s voice. I waited a beat until he started talking again before opening it just enough that I could look through the crack. Anyone who looked in my direction would be able to see the wall was open, though, so it wasn’t my best plan, but it was all I had. The light was off in the briefing room,
FAITH My eyes closed as I leaned into him. “I haven’t felt like this in years,” I whispered with a small smile as he pulled me tighter against his chest. It was like all of the weight and responsibility of the world vanished for a long moment as I listened to him take in a deep breath. I couldn’t think about anything else besides him, the man who loved me and freed me to ensure my safety. "Like what?" "Like I can breathe again." I sighed, my hands fisting the shirt over his sides. “Faith,” the breathy whisper of my name sent a shiver down my spine, and I pressed closer to him. “I do… choose you, I mean. I do. If you still want me when this is all over.” “I will always want you, no matter what happens.” The deep growl of his words made my eyes close with pleasure, and I sighed with contentment as he pressed his lips to mine, stoking the fire once again. Even his touch felt more electrifying, and I leaned in until I was flush against his body. I moaned as his tongue slid
FAITH Fireworks exploded between us, my skin buzzing with power and warmth as he kissed me deeply and lovingly. I couldn’t even begin to understand what had been in my head before that made me resist kissing him. His soft lips, his touch… his taste. Fuck, he was addicting. My heart crashed into my chest as I pulled him closer, my fingers curling around his shirt tightly. I love you. I love you. I love you. I could hear his voice on repeat in my head, and I never wanted to forget it. The amulets between us warmed, but it only encouraged me to press closer, craving the warmth and the pulse of power he was unconsciously sending me. I moaned as I slid my hands up his chest to tangle in his soft hair, and he held me tighter to him. I could kiss him for hours, days even, and never be sick of him. My toes curled as I felt how aroused he was, and I started to lift my leg to wrap it around him when he pulled back suddenly. His eyes glazed over, and his body tensed. Someone wa
FAITHGods.“I need you,” He repeated, and my breathing picked up as his thumbs brushed back and forth along my cheekbones before one dropped down to my mouth, pulling my bottom lip down slightly. “They are right, though, Kaiden. I can fight for you, but Cain…” “I will handle Cain, and I don’t need you to do anything for me or the pack, Faith.” He said, and I felt my shoulders fall. I was relieved, but I didn’t know why. “But,” I whispered, wanting to help in any way I could, even if he wasn’t planning on using me anymore. I had powers that could help. We just needed the Alliance to see that before they made their decision. “I need you safe, Faith. I won’t let them near you.” He said, and my hands landed on his chest, taking in his warmth as he moved even closer. I couldn’t get enough of this man. Everything about him called to me, and I wanted to hold on as tightly as I could, but that wasn’t realistic. We had to come up with a plan because either I would be executed or his ent
FAITHMy hand moved up to grab the side of my throbbing face as Kaiden released me, spinning me around to put me behind him as he turned to Broderick. “Out of the question,” Kaiden said, his voice coming out low and deadly as he stepped toward Broderick. "I speak for all of us when I say..." Broderick started, but Kaiden cut him off. "No! You don't." Kaiden growled, and my free hand moved to grab the back of his shirt as black dots blurred my vision from the hit I had taken. "Speaking on behalf of another Alpha requires a written order that..." "Is not possible right now." Broderick snapped, and I could feel Kaiden's anger increasing at Broderick's disrespect and audacity. Where did he get off, thinking he could interrupt another Alpha unless he thought he was above them? Which, in hindsight, was entirely possible, as he had just tried to speak for others. I wanted to ask what it was he was demanding, but from Kaiden's reaction to it, I probably didn't want to know. It was evid
