Chapter 2

Author: Snail
She sneered and said to the two burly bodyguards beside her, “Teach her a hard lesson!”

The bodyguards responded and stepped forward, grabbing me tightly.

One of them pressed hard on my neck, forcing me to kneel.

I gritted my teeth and struggled with all my strength, trying to resist.

However, my strength was no match for two grown men. My knees slammed heavily onto the ground with a dull thud.

Then, my head was smashed down against the floor.

Once, twice…

Warm blood flowed down from my forehead, and my vision gradually blurred.

“What are you doing?”

Sam’s voice trembled slightly.

I forced my eyes open. Through the haze of blood, I saw Sam standing at the doorway, staring at me without moving while holding Ethan’s hand.

Isla stepped forward and hooked her arm around Sam’s, speaking as if she had been wronged.

“Hazel refuses to confess even when threatened with death. For your safety, I really had no other choice…”

Thick anger quickly replaced the pain in Sam’s eyes, and his voice turned cold.

“Hazel, I’ll give you one more chance. Tell me who that man is!

“I’ll pretend this never happened, and you’ll still be my wife.

“When I inherit the family, you’ll be my donna!”

I slowly raised my head, not daring to let my tears fall.

There were clearly only two days left before I could live a completely different life.

Why was it that in two lifetimes, I still fell into Isla’s hands, unable to escape her malicious framing?

“Sam, I’ve already said it. There is no other man. I was framed.”

Ethan stood by the door, poking his head out and crying toward me, “Mom, you’re scaring me. Just admit it already! I want to go home…”

My heart shattered.

The son I had doted on for five years didn’t believe me and even wanted me to confess to a crime that never existed.

“See that? Even your son feels ashamed of you. Hazel, how long are you going to keep being stubborn?”

Sam looked at me with disappointment and said to the bodyguards, “Continue. Don’t stop until she confesses.”

Suddenly, Ethan ran over, crying, and kicked me in the back.

“You’re a liar! I don’t want you as my mom anymore!”

The kick wasn’t heavy, but it felt like it went straight into my heart, leaving me in unbearable pain.

My own son…

When I was being framed and abused, he not only didn’t believe me but came over to strike me as well.

At that moment, my heart completely died.

Sam was also startled by Ethan’s action.

Watching him cry as he ran away, Sam said to me coldly, “Hazel, for Ethan’s sake, as long as you confess, I won’t pursue your betrayal anymore.”

After giving Isla a few instructions, he hurriedly chased after Ethan.

A sudden fear rose in my heart. I struggled and crawled toward the door while shouting desperately after Sam.

“Sam! Please don’t leave me here!”

Isla dragged me back with a vicious grin. I struggled wildly, my nails scratching her arm.

She took a step back, covered her arm, and coldly ordered the bodyguards, “Since her hands won’t behave, break them one finger at a time.”

My eyes widened in disbelief as I stared at her.

“You want to break my fingers?”

No!

I couldn’t lose my hands! I still had to enter my mentor’s biological research center. I have a bright future ahead of me!

I struggled again, but the bodyguards pinned me down firmly.

“Isla, you can’t do this… Sam won’t allow it!”

I screamed hoarsely as despair swallowed my reason.

Isla sneered at me, as if looking at a dead person.

“Don’t worry. He’ll never know.

“I never planned to let you leave alive.

“I can only erase the stain on Sam if you die. Then, I can be with him openly.”

I stared at her in shock, forgetting even to struggle.

One of the bodyguards stepped forward and roughly grabbed my left hand.

“No!”

I didn’t die after all. While I was waiting at death’s door on a dark street corner, my mentor found me with an armed unit behind him.The moment he saw my fingers twisted out of shape and the unhealed wound on my forehead, fury erupted in his eyes.“Who did this? How dare they!”The instant I saw him, my tears finally began to fall.“Professor, I’m sorry. I didn’t protect my hands. From now on, I won’t be able to do experiments with you anymore…”Pain and heartache flashed through his eyes. He took off my filthy coat and personally lifted me into his arms.“Don’t worry. Your talent won’t be buried by injuries caused by others.”He took me straight onto a private jet and left Latia for Rotenberg, bringing me to the best hospital there.World-class neurological specialists treated my hands, restoring nearly ninety percent of their mobility. So I gave up precision cell experiments and shifted my focus to pharmaceutical research instead.News from Latia continued to reach me th

On the day of the wedding, Isla arrived at the venue in her wedding dress, radiant with excitement. What awaited her, however, was a brutal shootout.Leading his men, Sam wiped out every one of Matteo’s trusted subordinates.Matteo slumped weakly into his chair, panting as he cursed angrily.“You ungrateful son! After today, everything I have would have been yours. Why would you do this?”Sam’s face was cold as he walked toward him step by step.“I did all this to show you that I can get anything I want myself. I don’t need your charity!”Then he turned, his cold gaze landing on Isla.“As for you, I’ll make you endure everything Hazel went through! Men, break her fingers!”Terror flooded Isla’s face. She dropped to her knees and clutched at his pant leg desperately.“Sam, you can’t do this to me… Everything I did was for you! And those punishments—you allowed them back then!”Pain flashed through Sam’s heart, but his eyes only grew more vicious.“Don’t think I don’t know wh

Sam hadn’t expected the matter he had worked so hard to conceal to be exposed by Isla to his father.Suppressing his resentment toward her, he spoke calmly to Matteo.“Father, don’t worry. I’ll make sure Hazel stays in the slums. She won’t affect the Rhys mafia family’s reputation.”Matteo narrowed his eyes.“As long as you get the divorce finalized, I can pretend none of this ever happened. And you will still be the next heir to the family.”Sam clenched his jaw but continued to insist. “Ethan is still young. He needs his mother, and Hazel takes very good care of him. I don’t think divorce is the right choice.”Matteo snorted and flung several photos at him. They were pictures of Ethan attending a parent-child event with Isla.“Your son understands things better than you do. He’s already found himself a new mother. Divorce Hazel immediately and marry Isla. That will be the perfect solution.“You’d better deal with Hazel at once and marry Isla!”With that, Matteo turned to le

Five-year-old Ethan was actually very smart, and clearly, he understood what was going on.So when he woke up again, he refused Isla’s care.“Auntie Isla, could you help me call my mom to come take care of me? My mom is better at this.”Isla’s internal alarm immediately went off.“Didn’t you say you wanted me to be your mom? Why are you asking her to come? Anything she can do, I can do too!”However, Ethan didn’t think so.“Auntie Isla, I’ve thought it through carefully. I already have a mom. I don’t need another one.”This time, Isla was truly furious.“I take you out to eat good food, I play with you, and now that you’re sick, I’ve been working nonstop to take care of you in the hospital. “And you’re still thinking about that short-lived woman? Let me tell you. Your mom is dead! I’m the only one who can be your mother now!”Ethan suddenly lifted his head, staring at her in disbelief.“No way. How can my mom be dead? I just saw her yesterday! You’re lying to me, aren’t you

Isla was terrified and rushed him to the hospital. After emergency treatment, the doctor looked at Isla with a reproachful gaze.“What kind of mother are you? Your son is allergic to milk, soy, and various food additives. His stomach also can’t handle overly cold drinks. This food allergy nearly cost him his life!”Isla’s face turned pale.“He’s not my son… I didn’t know any of this!”The doctor sighed.“Call the child’s parents. He needs family members to stay with him.”A flash of panic crossed Isla’s eyes. Given Ethan’s current condition, Sam absolutely couldn’t find out.Her eyes darted around before she said to the doctor, “His mother passed away, and his father is overseas. I’m his stepmother. Don’t worry, I’ll stay with him.”The doctor had no choice but to patiently remind her, “The child’s body is still very weak after the rescue. You must take meticulous care of him. Absolutely do not let his condition relapse.”Isla nodded distractedly. After all, how hard could c

The corners of Isla’s lips curved upward as she replied gently, “Of course I’ll go with you.”Just as she was thinking about how to get closer to Sam, his son handed her the perfect opportunity.“As long as Ethan likes me and wants me to be his mom, I can naturally be with Sam! I’ll have to perform well at tomorrow’s family event!”The next day, Isla put on a very pretty short dress and paired it with three-inch high heels. Swaying her hips, she went to the Rossi residence to pick up Ethan.Ethan bounced over to Isla, his eyes full of excitement.“Auntie Isla, you look so beautiful today! My classmates will definitely envy me. I really wish you were my mom.”Isla felt delighted and took the chance to ask, “Then would you like me to be your dad’s wife? That way, I could be your mom.”Ethan agreed without hesitation, saying happily, “Of course! I want Dad to marry you. Having such a beautiful mom would make me so happy!”Isla’s smile deepened as she probed, almost casually. “Wh
