Chapter 2

Author: Cher
That was when a merchant player strode up to the center. "I-I know the rules!"

Every other player quickly turned toward him, hoping for details.

That was when a rift tore out of thin air, and a cloaked figure emerged, laughing coolly. "Foolish mortals! What do you think this is, your average death game?"

I raised a brow—it was a Prophet, a guide of their respective level.

Smirking in amusement, the Prophet's voice soon rang thunderously. "Listen—that Entity will make sure you suffer as much as you can, as you die the way you wished. And as you can see, the holy knight has just tried to fight that darkness with his light, only to be consumed by it.

"If you want to survive, you must find the One True Wish."

The merchant player's eyes lit up as if he had found salvation, and he said softly, "I-I wish to live out my days and die peacefully from old age."

Silence ensued for a few beats, and the deep voice thundered, "As you wish."

Everyone's eyes lit up with hope, seeing that the merchant player was unharmed.

"Yes, this is it!" a young mage exclaimed excitedly. "I wish to die peacefully from old age too!"

"Me too!" More voices echoed, as everyone quickly hopped on the bandwagon as if they had found the right answer.

They all looked thrilled as if they had already won, with some already discussing about the rewards of the level.

I leaned against the pillar, watching in amusement at the fools who thought themselves clever—the game wouldn't be categorized as Nightmare-level if it were that easy.

Even the Prophet was laughing gleefully. "In that case, you should all bask in your 'triumph'…"

With that, he faded into the Darkness.

That was when I noticed the Darkness was slowly turning its attention to me.

After all, I was the only person who never made a wish.

"It's just you left."

The Darkness stopped in front of me, almost touching my skin.

It only made me even more thrilled; no matter what kind of Entity it was, they always had desires.

And being a succubus, it was my tenet to taste this man, as my instincts were screaming for me to conquer him… to dominate him, so that he would completely fall under my seduction.

"What is your wish?" he pressed.

"My wish?" I giggled alluring. "What an interesting question."

I straightened myself, releasing all my succubus pheromones that filled the air with an indescribable sweetness.

"Before I answer… " I stared fixedly at the Darkness. "Show me your true face."

The Darkness seemed to flicker, and I took a step forward so that he completely shrouded me.

"I can feel the perfect masculine form behind that darkness. Broad shoulders, muscular chest, and…"

I trailed off for a moment before continuing, "Chiseled muscles that I really want to caress.

If other methods didn't work, why not try a succubus' charm?

"Most important…" I purred alluringly, "I can feel the endless charm that you carry."

Even as the Darkness began to shudder, I brushed my finger over my lips as I spoke calmly, "As for my wish… I wish to be conquered by a truly powerful Entity, dominated from soul to flesh, and to die in pure ecstasy."

I could hear the other Players gasping behind me, but I kept going, every word I spoke a poison seeping into his consciousness. "That includes hyperventilation, shudders, and blanked eyes as I lose myself again and again as I climax."

At that point, the Darkness was shaking so hard that it was going to lose control.

I could feel his shock and confusion, but also something further… Yearning? Excitement?

Then, flashing a smile that would take anyone's breath away, I played my trump card.

"Oh, and you'll have to do it yourself," I finished, my eyes locked at the center of the Darkness. "You're the only one who can bring me such euphoria. I want you to use that perfect body of yours to dominate me, so that I would reach the pinnacle of my existence in your arms."

Once I finished, there was a deathly silence, as if everything around me had frozen up.

Even the darkness stopped shifting, the breeze it leaves in its wake turning still.

I could hear the breaths of the other players, along with their shock and fear.

However, all my attention was on the Entity before me, who was clearly stunned.

An ancient Entity, powerful and grasping life in its very hands, was stunned by my direct seduction.

And the reaction left me even more thrilled, as I loved it when the most powerful prey exposed their openings under my seduction.

Nonetheless, the long silence eventually ended.

The voice that spoke out of the darkness this time, however, was not threatening, but a youth's exclamation of shock and embarrassment instead.

"W-What are you saying?!"

[That is the correct Wish.][Player (Lilith) has cleared the level—The Pact.]The voice of the System was endlessly imposing as all of space and time quaked with the announcement. The ground tore open while the murals glowed, and soon, streaks of beams shot out of the ground, as if the people depicted had been brought back to life, their bound souls released.I could feel their souls passing into the peace—including Morpheus' parents. At the same time, the darkness around his body faded, as if the night was dispelled by dawn. The cursed chains that bound him cracked in the light audibly, and I finally saw his through face as the last clump of darkness faded. His skin was pale as the moon but flawless, as if carved out of the purest marble. His eyes were dark as night, gazing upon me silently. His face was so handsome that he would take anyone's breath away, with every nook and cranny ever so perfect. But most of all, the pain in those eyes were gone, while something I'd never

I didn't answer right away, instead recalling the mural in the hall.As moonlight spilled through the tinted glass, the ancient sculpting was especially clear. The first showed a black-haired boy around seven years old, with two adults who looked like his parents flanking him, watching him with love and pride. The second showed the same boy, but his parents were gone. The boy was instead surrounded by a group of adult humans dressed in elegant frocks of the ordained, kneeling before the boy and worshipping him devotedly. In the third, the boy remained youthful but wasn't smiling, as legions of worshippers encircled him, casting formless pressure upon him.I studied the murals while I pieced together the information I gathered before.Innate powers to grant wishes.Willingly taking the burden of pain without being forced. All the clues stacked in my mind and built the picture of a horrible truth.A divine child with the powers to shape reality to wishes, whose parents were gon

[Assignment: Final Mission.][Every remaining player shall make one final wish. Only the player who makes the One True Wish shall survive.]As the final dawn arrived, the cool voice of the System rang through the manor.I leaned against a broken pillar, watching as Julian and Elara stiffened nervously. There were three of us, but only one chance."There it is," Julian said, his voice cracking as he adjusted his glasses. "We need to break down and dissect the rules. Everyone in front of us had their wishes twisted, but there must be a logic behind it.""Logic?" Elara laughed coolly. "Didn't you see what happened to Cassian? The rules are the trap!""Well, do you have any better ideas?" Julian shot back. With that, they argued endlessly, the vibe of despair swirling in the air. That was when Morpheus' shadow arrived, calling a stop to their bickering."I'm going first," Julian suddenly said, adjusting his glasses and taking a deep breath. His voice cracking, he said, "My wish…

It was Julian and Elara's turn to ask questions, and they quickly switched their strategy to combing Morpheus' life for the right clues. At the same time, Julian leveled a troubled look at me, but he didn't have the time for gossip when his life was on the line.Considering the possibility of provoking Morpheus, he phrased his question to be indirect."First question," he began, adjusting his glasses. "Is this manor your former home or the place of your death?""Yes," Morpheus replied, his voice once again ancient and majestic."Second question," Julian pressed. "Were you suffering mental or spiritual anguish in this manner?""Yes." Another single word reply.A confident smile showed on Julian's face, seemingly knowing the answer to the quiz."Third question: Did you die to your tormentors?""No."Julian's smile stiffened—this time, the answer was not what he had expected.Despite his frustration, he had used up all three questions, and he must retreat.Elara stepped forwar

[Every surviving player may ask the Lord of the Manor three questions, and the Lord will answer truthfully.]There was an authority in that order as the voice of the System echoed. My eyes twinkling with mischief, I promptly asked, "What did my lips taste like when I kissed you last night?"Julian and Elara were both gaping at me, horrified."Are you crazy?!" Julian exclaimed, his voice unusually shrill. "How can you still fool around when our lives are on the line?!""Shut up," I snapped and wheeled on him and Elara. "I'm just proving what I said. Neither of you believed me, did you?"Elara's ward seemed to quiver. "But that question is a little…"Meanwhile, there was a flutter in the air, as if something was fighting back against its restraints.I could sense it—the embarrassment of having one's secret exposed. As such, I urged quietly, "Answer my question. The rules are absolute here, aren't they?"After a long silence, a youthful voice spoke from thin air with clear embar

Julian's cracked voice rang amid the mist of dawn. "Cassian's dead."I slowly turned toward him, as I had slept soundly last night after returning from the depths of the manor. We moved to the hall where Cassian's corpse was nailed to the wall with a wooden stake—not just any wooden stake, but a sanctified one used expressly to hunt vampires.Poor Cassian—his skin was as white as a sheet as every last drop of blood had been drained out of him, leaving just an empty husk.Ironically, the smug smile from last night still lingered on his face.Elara was panicking too. "What?! I thought he wished for immunity from Morpheus!"The cool voice of the System answered: [System log—Player Cassian was eliminated by another Player. Damage was inflicted within the confines of rules.]Both Julian and Elara turned pale right then."So his immunity… was pointless," Julian said fearfully, adjusting his glasses. "It's a loophole in the rules, but player against player damage isn't damage from Mor
