Chapter 7 The Club

" A child you say?"

" Yes, I think a child would put an ultimate end to his debauchery. You should seriously think about it, my child."

Alexandrine sighed deeply and said to Johnson's grandmother in a rather sad tone, " I know you're very hopeful about this relationship but I don't think a child will make things any easier between us." Alexandrine uttered. " On the contrary, if we had a child, that poor soul would be nothing more than a bargaining chip between the two of us. I don't want Johnson to be obligated to stay with me just because I'll be having his child."

" What's the need to stay with me if there are no feelings attached; I don’t want that kind of life and neither do I want my child to have such a sad and unfulfilled life."

Alexandrine was feeling deeply hurt with each word pronounced. The grandmother could feel through her words how deeply hurt and shattered she was about her grandson.

" It's okay, grandmother. I'll be alright and I think you should let Johnson live the life he always wanted." Alexandrine sighs sadly. " If Tina happens to be the love of his life, then let it be."

In the meantime, Johnson was in a club with a friend.

" Johnson, why are you here instead of being home and accompanying your wife?" Johnson's friend asked him frantically. Johnson drunkenly answered, " Lovely? What are you talking about? Do you even hear yourself?"

" My wife is not lovely; She's insufferable; all she wants is to get rid of me so that she can go back to her boyfriend." Johnson drank even more.

" Boyfriend?" The friend had a hard time believing what his drunkard friend was telling him as it was obvious to him he was mistaken.

" Alexandrine doesn't love me; She never did and that’s why she didn't hesitate before signing the divorce papers." Johnson's face fell flat on the table.

" Johnson, wake up!" His friend tried waking him up but in vain. As he couldn't wake him up, he thought of calling someone to come fetch him. Glancing through his contacts, he stumbled upon his wife's number and glanced at it for a minute before finally pressing it and launching the call.

Meanwhile, in Johnson's apartment, Alexandrine went back to packing her clothes to leave her husband's apartment. Remembering, again and again, her husband’s indifference toward her, she convinces herself of the painful fact that he didn’t love her even a little and never will in the end.

" Leaving this fairy tale would be for the best." Alexandrine got an unexpected phone call from her husband’s number. She hesitated before picking up the call.

" Why are you calling me Johnson?" Alexandrine acted rather coldly toward the one she apprehended to be her husband.

" Are you Alexandrine?" Alexandrine was stunned as the one on the phone wasn't her husband but it was without a doubt his number.

" Who are you and why do you have Johnson's phone?" She was about to say 'husband' but changed it at the last minute.

" I'm one of Johnson's friends and the reason I'm calling is because he's unable to do it." The friend's last sentence confused Alexandrine.

" Unable to do it? What do you mean?"

" He's at a club and he's wasted. I called for you so you could come to pick him up." The friend explained the situation to Johnson's wife.

Alexandrine was just about to go down there and have him picked up but as she remembered how Johnson left with Tina while tangling, a sudden anger took over her and she told Johnson's friend out of nowhere, " Mister, I think you got the wrong person here. Goodbye!"

Before Alexandrine had the chance to hang up the call, Johnson's friend asked her on a whim, " How could I have gotten the wrong person?" Aren't you Johnson's wife? Did I get that wrong?"

Alexandrine regained her composure a little before answering the latter's question. " No, you didn't get it wrong, but I'm not the one you should have called."

Johnson's friend asked Alexandrine hypothetically, " Who should I have called then, if not you?"

" You're his friend, are you not?" Alexandrine gasped before continuing. " Tina is your friend's beloved sweetheart whom he loves more than anyone and anything, so do something and call her. Your friend will be delighted if she was the one to come pick him up."

Alexandrine was ready to hang up the call now, but Johnson's friend wasn't quite done with her.

" You're amazing, Alexandrine." The latter was stunned by his sudden compliment. Although it looked like a compliment. It wasn't in the end.

" You're the wife every man wishes to have." Alexandrine felt this awkwardness through his words. " After all, not everyone would be able to tolerate and accept their husband’s cheating like you; that’s why you're amazing. If I had one with me, I'd probably give you an Oscar for your performance."

Johnson's friend's words tore the latter to pieces. What was he saying? How could he be so disrespectful? Alexandrine was so hurt by the latter's words that she wanted nothing more but to let out her pain, but more than anything, she had some scores to settle.

" Who do you think you are speaking to me like that?" Alexandrine lashed at Johnson's friend. " Do you even know me and what I've been going through?" Johnson's friend could feel Alexandrine's anger but more than that, he could feel her pain through the phone even though he couldn't see her face.

" You should come to pick up Johnson as soon as possible; The Club will be closing in a few." Johnson's friend's tone changed slightly. Both of them hung up the phone from their respective locations.

It didn't take long for Alexandrine to reach the club with the address she had been given. Once there, she didn't find her husband’s friend anywhere.

" You're strong and brave for tolerating how he's treating you without a word." Johnson's friend was hidden in a corner watching the two, especially Alexandrine as she was taking Johnson away.

Once home, Alexandrine laid her husband on the bed and went to fetch a cloth and some water to wipe the alcohol off of him.

She unbuttoned his shirt and pants, took the drenched cloth, and started cleaning his body all over. Starting from his face to his throat and moving further down arose Johnson who suddenly woke up in the action.

Without a word and taking the latter by surprise, Johnson flipped their positions and Alexandrine was now under him with himself being on top.

Sneerely, he asked Alexandrine, " What were you doing just now, or rather I should be asking, What were you trying to do to me as I was unconscious and defenseless?"
