"The runaway thief returns. How does it feel to be back home?" Nikolai laughed sarcastically, his composure leaving me speechless.

Dragged from the airport and back to the mansion, I don't expect he had even wanted to see me. As per my crime, I won't put it past him to throw me in the hands of the police officers with immediate effect.

It's scary how he's being humorous but he isn't taking it lightly either.

"I know what I did was wrong, alongside how much I failed both you and everyone else but I am deeply sorry. Look, I accept whatever punishment you choose for me." I told him as I stepped inside, my guilt soaring high on its peak.

"Anything?" He challenged, staring straight into my eyes.

"Anything." I nodded, voice flat.

Without a word, he turned around and I followed. I made sure there was enough distance between us, in case he loses it out of the blue and decides I wasn't worthy of his forgiveness.

He came to a stop when he reached his room and I did the same.

"Bring them in." He placed a call and those three words were all he said into the phone before hanging up. All the while, I can feel his burning glare eating up the other side of my face as I completely avoided his eye.

My mind went back to my sinful deed and I almost facepalmed myself. How could I be so stupid and shameless that I forgot this is an era of technology and for a man this wealthy, it's no news CCTV cameras are planted every corner.

I snapped out of whatever oblivion I was when two barely clothed ladies cat-walked past me and further into the room.

"Grab a chair. Watch me fuck these chicks senseless." He spat with so much venom and went to meet the said-ladies who are now laid on his bed, completely naked.

I didn't persuade him. Instead, I looked over my shoulder and truly, a guard was there to provide me a chair. I let out a long breath and sat, arms crossed.

However, my confidence increased as I remembered Mrs. Romano's statement from months ago.

His door was left open for me to conveniently watch the scene and that's what I did. I watched him pound them, one after the other.

Tortured, I rubbed my hand against my small stomach bump. "Dear child, your father is before my eyes sleeping with other women, isn't that pretty charming?"

His hiss, their moans, together with their accentuated sex noises reached climax, but when the time came for him to ejaculate, it all ended. He couldn't.

"He's dealing with a low sperm count. Whatever sperm he has left, was what he had poured into you." Refreshing my mind with Mrs. Romano's assurance, I stood, my face glistering with the biggest smile ever.

"Damn, you b*tches!"

"What have you done to me. Why can't I—shit!"

I heard him cussed and fussed before I stepped out of earshot and proudly left for my room.

I have no place in his heart. Nikolai's hatred for me is a bigger burn than that of a gasoline. I know he doesn't want me here, yet, he wouldn't let me leave.

Soon as I entered my room, a sudden heat engulfed me and just like that, I knew I had to get out of the house for a breath. How though?

My phone buzzed and I immediately fetched it out of my back pocket and opened the message.

Gwen: Up for a double date by 7pm?

At first, my brow cocked in doubt then I let out laugh. Gwen is inviting me to a double date with her?

Wait, let me get this straight. It was just earlier today when I sent her father's hospital bills in which I'm now suffering its repercussion at Nikolai's hands, and now what? She wants to go on a date?!

For someone who almost tore my ear off with her threats, she sure know how to pull a prank.

Me: Get lost.

She replied within minutes.

Gwen: Get lost? Fine. I guess that's my take to rat out your location to mother. And you know how she is, don't you? You wouldn't want that.

Eyes widening, my heart raced faster than ever before. "That little brat!" I gasped.

I took a deep breath and decided to turn off my phone, only for an address to pop up on my screen before I could even get anything done.

I need to think. Holy shit, I wasn't aware of when I placed my phone facedown and began to pace back and forth. Until an awful, overly tempting idea trapped my brain.

Yes, I could jest Nikolai with this. What more way to spite an unyielding man than a letter informing him I was out on a date with another man.

I didn't think any further when I hightailed it to my clothes-filled drawer and picked a wear, each and every one of them newly purchased by the infamous egocentric Nikolai freaking Romano.

~

I'm burning with regret.

From the moment we sat down, I knew I had rather have Gwen tell on me than be here. My date simply couldn't stop talking.

He continued to chatter away, from his job, his hobbies, down to his recent travels and favorite meals. I mean, he could have waited till I ask. Which I know I never will.

"It depends on my pay, maybe after four years, we can arrange our wedding. Oh, how I wish my mother isn't on her sick bed. Her sickness is costing me my last dime! And yes, let's speak about our future children's genders…" He jumped from topic to topic, barely pausing to take a breath.

I can't help sneaking glances at Gwen's date. A better choice than my dirty haired, pot-bellied forty-year-old date.

I gritted my teeth. I know he's Gwen's handiwork. She made him to be this on purpose and you know what's sad? It's the fact that it's too late to back out.

"We won't even speak about Dad's health?" I found myself looking completely away from Dennis, the middle aged men and towards Gwen.

"C'mon Serina," Whining, she reached under the table and kicked my leg. "Enjoy the moment, please. No dad-ish talk."

Before I know it, she's making out with her own date.

"Serina." Dennis called, reaching over and taking my hand in his. I quickly snatched it out of his grip and straightened. "You're forgetting the no touching rule."

I was able to ward him off, and my eyes averted to my untouched drink. My blood however boiled when he couldn't wait it out for at least five minutes when he started, once again.

"I must assure you, I'm a good man and certainly, with your beauty, we could make a good couple…" He slurred, licking the cream off his fingers and I almost snort as he continued.

"I accept you and the pregnancy likewise, I agree to take care of you but not your baby. As you can see, am still struggling to make ends meets. We can…"

An arched brow was what I gave in return.

"Why don't you find an animal to marry instead. Perhaps a dog?"

"What do you mean?" He immediately frowned.

"I mean good, Mr. Dennis. You won't even have to pay the bride price. Nor would it have you ranting in its ears about your salary that's never enough." I glared at him, breathing in sharply so I wouldn't snap at him.

While he stared at my face in shock, I sighed and closed my eyes.

"You know what? I've had enough." Without warning, I jerked to my feet, the drinks on the table almost toppling over as I stormed off.

I didn't listen to Gwen as she screamed for me to come back.

I finally got home and was headed inside the mansion for a good night rest, when I almost slammed into a wall.

Somehow, I looked up and was instead met with a furious face, owned by none other than Nikolai.

My stupid heart began to beat loudly as I take in his handsome face. Feeling lame, I sucked in a breath, and made to walk past him.

"Where do you think you're going?" One grasp at my arm was all it took for him to shove me back.

"I don't get to sleep?" I asked, almost wishing his touch had lasted longer against my skin. I must have gone crazy.

"Not when you'll be sleeping at somewhere else." He smiled evily.

"And where's that?" I let out a low chuckle, failing to understand him. He's flirting with me or could I be mistaken?

I won't be so surprised if my plan worked and he's now so jealous he wants me to sleep in his room.

"Dennis Roberto. Aged forty, an employee at Chick-fil-A. Finished at Brooklyn College. Net worth; a mere $4,000." He bit out through clenched teeth.

Shaking my head at him, I berated myself for thinking he was close to redemption. He got his hands on every tiny bit of my date's information despite his busy schedule, but I won't hurt myself again by thinking he's starting to show an ounce of care.

Tiredly, I made my way past him, internally grateful he didn't try to stop me this time around. I'm feeling so dizzy and need to catch some sleep.

"How much do you need to get that petty baby of an excuse in your stomach out?" He rasped, stopping me midway the staircase.

"A slap. One slap is all I need to get you out of my life." I retorted. I didn't see the anger coming, I turned back around and sprinted toward him.

And I did exactly that. His head snapped to the side with the force of the slap, my hand leaving a mark on his face which I should be remorseful for but, I wasn't. I stood firm on my spot, ignoring my guts screaming at me to run for the hills.

I noticed his stillness and my hands flew to my mouth. What have I done? What screw went lost in my head that I raised my hand on him…?

The vigorous fisting of his hands into balls by his sides told me what I needed to do. RUN.

I wasn't chanced. No, it was too late.

A shiver ran down my spine and I was paralyzed when he grabbed my neck and brought my face closer to his, "How come you have no fear! Now, apologize—"

"Let's get a divorce, Nikolai." I silenced him, certain I had heard enough.

Serina's Pov I didn't move. I stood rigidly there for what seemed like an eternity before I shook my head, snapping back to my senses. Whatever this was, I didn't care, never would. I turned my face, pretend to casually go on about my day like I hadn't seen something bothering, when my legs crashed into a flower case I hadn't realized was on the way. I couldn't hold back the pain that instantly coursed through me and winched. When I realized I had made a mistake and Nikolai might hear, I covered my mouth but not only was the sound already out, the flower vase had lost its balance. Although it didn't crash, it fell on the floor, loud enough that it echoed in the hallway. And then, there was silence. I gnashed my eyes shut, my hands tightened by my sides. I considered taking off, heck, I had already taken a step forward but then I froze, like a deer caught in the headlights. It was already too late. Behind me came the person that wasn't supposed to see me. The thud of hi

  • Chasing Back My Pregnant Ex-Wife    17- Was this real?

Serina's PovI didn't answer. For the first time, I looked unsure.Nikolai had spoken with so much seriousness, no trace of deceit in his words and still, I didn't know if to trust him or even how to. For all I know, this could be a trap set by him. I never forgave him and refused to go back to living with him. He must have been frustrated, unable to wait any longer so this could as well be some plot he came up with to achieve his goal. “I appreciate that you're trying to help me,” I started, pushing back the small part of me that wanted his protection. “But if your mother comes, if I told her I didn't want to return to your abode, I'm sure she would understand.” I told him even though I wasn't really sure what Mrs. Romano would and wouldn't do. A feeling of unease crept up my skin at the thought and as I gripped my handbag tighter, I realized something. I was speaking. I was no longer gasping for breath. It dawned on me his hand had slipped off. He was faltered and I took the cha

  • Chasing Back My Pregnant Ex-Wife    Until You Want Me Back

Serina's PovAs my driver carried my luggage out, I spared the living room a last glance to make sure I didn't forget anything before stepping out of the house to join him in the car.As the car pulled out of the parking lot and tore through the road, I stared out of the window. As my eyes wandered around, taking in the view, a strange feeling of unease settled in my stomach. After this business trip, I would be following Austin to thanksgiving in the next two days and I didn't know how to feel about that. I was just someone he took in and gave shelter. I'm afraid going with him to see his parents was a big step and not as casual as he might have thought it was. Moreso, I was pregnant. What if they saw me and come to conclusions? I sighed into my palm. I was helpless at this point. There was no going back, but maybe after getting through this, I would be able to summon the will to tell him about my plan to find a place of my own. In some way, I knew it was going to give Austin more

  • Chasing Back My Pregnant Ex-Wife    15- Don't Want To Be Found

Serina’s PovHe left. He was finally gone but why do I still feel that hollow ache in my chest? As if my heart could burst out anytime soon? I leaned against the door but the next moment, I slumped down onto the ground. I felt empty, weak and angry at the same time. I never thought I'd see Nikolai's face again. Or that he'd come finding me in regret. I saw the look on his face when he noticed my stomach bump. At first the expression on his face was shock, and then surprise– probably at the fact I never aborted but kept the baby. I took in a shaky breath and stood up from the ground, hurriedly making my way inside my room. Once I got there, I dumped down all the clothes inside my closet and began to pack them in my travelling suits. My shoes and jewelry weren't left out. He might have gone now, but his sudden appearance brought back forgotten memories and reopened the scar that I thought had long healed. To myself, chasing him out like I just did might be a final farewell but I

  • Chasing Back My Pregnant Ex-Wife    14- The Unbearable Loss

Nikolai’s PovI knew I was determined to soften her heart, but seeing her desperation to create distance between us, it made me feel like some creep. I didn’t expect her to treat me differently or welcome me with open arms after what I’d done to her. Matter of fact I think I more than deserved the hatred, the spite that rolled off her tongue when she addressed me, how she avoided physical contact with me as if I was a disease. What was ironic though was she seemed like someone who had forgotten about my entire existence and was only reminded of it when she found me at her doorstep. Was that how fast she moved on? Fuck, what about the pregnancy? Our child? Was she really going to nurture him on her own, without me in the picture? Serina had already stormed out of the kitchen but her words still remained, echoing loudly in my ears. She wanted me to leave. As much as I wanted to defy her, it was her house. Or rather, some new man’s—who also happened to be my lawyer. The mere thought

  • Chasing Back My Pregnant Ex-Wife    13- Please, Stay Away

I didn’t know what I was thinking when I agreed to let him stay over for the night, but I ended up giving up my bed to Nikolai while I made do with the floor. And the cold? It was like a slap to my face. I was instantly consumed by regret. I was torn between enduring it for just tonight, or kicking him out of the bed right this instant. Despite how much I wished I could choose the latter, it was a well known billionaire we are talking about here. I don’t want to imagine kicking him out so late in the night, and anything bad happening to him because I’d surely be thrown into jail. I forced myself to sleep and by the time I woke up, I saw the bed was empty, and Nikolai was nowhere to be found. My eyes widened, a tiny smile curling up my mouth. Wait, don’t tell me he’s left? I swirled around quickly and opened the bedroom door. I needed to confirm his departure. If truly he’s gone, I’d be so happy and— The smile on my face died as I stumbled past the kitchen, and caught a glim
