Serena's POV

“It’s a long story,” I told Sophia as I sat on the couch.

She raised a brow and dropped her bag dramatically on the couch. “Lucky for you, we’ve got all the time in the world.”

I deliberated. One side of me wanted to tell her everything. The other side, the part that was still reeling at how fast things had moved, wanted to keep it close for just a minute longer.

But this was Sophia, loyal, fierce, and the closest person to family I had currently.

So I took a breath and said it. "I'm the billionaire's daughter."

She blinked. "What?"

“My… mother. She died recently. But she left everything to me. Her lawyer had been looking for me for months, but I was off their radar. Damien was the one who decided two and two made four and brought them to me."

Her mouth hung open, eyes wide with amazement. "Are you kidding me right now?

I nodded slowly. "That's why Damien made me go visit that old lawyer. That was my legacy. But we had to keep it secret until the case with Alexander and V

  • Chasing Back The Woman He Destroyed   Chapter 140

Pristine's POVThe driver stopped in front of my father’s massive compound. I stepped out, the night air sharp against my face. I didn’t even wait for the driver to circle away. My heels clicked fast on the marble floor as I entered. The house was quiet except for the clink of glass. My father sat in the living room, a half-filled wine glass in his hand. His face was serious, almost tired, but his eyes lit up when he saw me.“Pristine,” he said, lowering the glass. “Please don’t tell me you and Alexander had an issue, and now you don’t want to stay with him tonight. Because I cannot remember the last time you came here this late.”I crossed my arms and stared at him. “You wouldn’t believe what Alexander did to me.”He raised the glass and took a slow sip. “What did he do?”“He broke up with me.”The wine nearly spilled from his hand. His eyes widened. “Come again?”I said it again, steady this time. “He broke up with me.”He leaned back in his chair and chuckled, but it was bitter.

Pristine's POVMy heels clicked against the stairs. I took a seat in the living room, crossing my arms. My chest felt heavy, but I forced my face to stay blank.“Five minutes,” I muttered under my breath. “Not one second more.”It didn’t take long before Vincent came down the stairs. He was wearing only a robe, tied lazily around his waist. Behind him, the woman followed. Her dress was rumpled, her cheeks flushed, and she kept brushing her hair back like she wanted to look presentable.Vincent smiled at me as if nothing had happened. “This is Anita,” he said. “One of the managing directors at Diamond Company. She helped me get the deal.”I raised my brow. “Help, or bribed?”Vincent chuckled, that deep careless laugh I had always hated.“Same thing, isn’t it? Money runs everything. I paid her a fortune, plus some bedroom services I’m still paying for.”The woman, Anita, shifted uncomfortably. I looked at her closely. She had a ring on her finger. “She looks married to me,” I said.He

Pristine's POVI stormed out of the restaurant, my chest burning with anger.Alexander’s words kept ringing in my ears,“I’m breaking up with you. I will no longer marry you.” The audacity! The sheer arrogance! He dared to strip me of the upper hand. How dare he? I clenched my fists so tight my nails dug into my palms. I wasn’t angry because I loved him. No, that was laughable. My anger boiled because I was supposed to be the one to end the relationship.I was supposed to dump him, not the other way around. No man, no man in this life, had ever broken up with me.I kicked the ground and muttered, “That bastard.”I lifted my chin, scanning the street. I saw a small group of rough-looking guys leaning against a wall nearby, cigarettes dangling from their mouths. They were thugs. The kind that lived on cheap money and violence. For a second, I imagined snapping my fingers, calling them over, slipping some cash into their hands, and sending them to deal with Alexander. I could already pi

Alexander's POVShe picked up on the second ring. "Let me guess," she started. "You've finally come to your senses and called to cancel the outing tonight, right?"I grinned. "You are wrong. By the way, the meeting with my dad was shorter than I expected. So get ready, I'm coming over." "Hmm," she said. "Okay then, I'll wait."I hung up as the doors of the elevator opened.I went straight for my car, but I kept imagining what Pristine must be imagining. I had no doubt that she was suspicious I was up to something, but she could not figure out what that something was.I smiled as I started the car. At least I am no longer that same dull old Alexander anymore. That part of me is dead and buried.I grabbed my phone and dialled Darla's number. She picked up instantly. "Alexander?""Uh-huh, it's me," I said, "I know where Serena's birthday party is tomorrow."There was silence on the other end before her voice came alive. "Really?*"Yes," I grinned, shifting the car into gear. "Get ready.

Alexander's POV"I don't understand, Alexander, is something wrong with you?" she asked, eyes narrowing.“Nothing is wrong with me,” I said. “I don't think it has become a crime to want to take you out.”Her eyebrows sprang. "Really? First you inform me you cannot wait to live with me, and then you show up here asking me if I would like to go out with you. Do you even hear yourself, Alexander?"She stabbed me hard with her words, but rather than anger, I felt a good feeling welling up in me. She hadn't expected me to ask her out, and that gave me a euphoric feeling.I forced a weak smile. "You're my fiancée. Think I can ignore you? It's only a matter of time before your father doubles the punishment I'm getting if he finds out I'm ignoring his daughter."She folded her arms, tilting her head. Her eyes tightened as if she was attempting to analyze my true purpose. The moment hung in the air for a couple of seconds. She sighed and shook her head."Okay. I'll go out with you."I blinked

Alexander's POVI looked at Darla as she readjusted the strap of her bag and stated, "I think I'd better go now. I'll be free for a while, so you just give me a call when it's time to go visit Serena tomorrow."I nodded. "I will. Thank you, Darla."I shook her hand, and I walked her to her car. I waited there until she was out of sight before returning to my vehicle.Sliding into the driver's seat, I sat for a bit in silence, tapping my fingers on the wheel, my thoughts whirling round and round Serena again. Her birthday was tomorrow. Would she even accept seeing me?I exhaled a sigh and pulled out my phone, calling my travel agent."Hello?" he answered."Yeah, it's me. I want a ticket to Sunderland in three days," I spoke brusquely. He did not waste any time. "I'll have that organized and ring you back," he stated."Good." I hung up against the headrest. Two days of hotel living was starting to wear me out, both financially and mentally. My belongings were still at home, and although
