I couldn't accept Troy's words, so I quickly chased him after I returned to consciousness, and we were almost out of balance when I pulled him again. I could clearly see the mixture of shock and irritation on his face.

"Is there really no hope, Troy? I'm ready to court you again." I asked, depressed, as my eyes fixed on his face.

"Gail, I don't know how to say this to you without hurting your feelings so badly, but you heard me clearly. There really isn't much chance for you and me. I don't have any feelings for you; even if I tell you to take Jack out of my life, I know for myself that I don't really like you."

I gasped. "That's unfair. Really unfair for me." I suddenly laughed. "I courted you for almost four years, and now you're going to answer like that? Tch, what else did I expect?" I shook my head. "I've been too complacent, but with your words today, it's like the truth just hit me."

I wiped my tears and smiled at him.

"I wish you had said it sooner."
