I was taken aback to see Kalus's name on Frank's caller ID.
"Should I answer?" Frank asked.
"Yup!"
Frank put the call on the speaker.
"Mr. Denz, is my wife with you?" Kalus spoke in a croaky voice.
I was irritated because I was angry that Kalus called me his wife. "Mr. Mike, watch your mouth. I am your EX-wife now."
"Amara Kol! So you really are with him!" Kalus's voice lowered.
"Where else can I be? Do I have to stay in your house and wait for you to throw me out?"
How inconsiderate of him!Kalus frowned. "Don't be so hasty. We have not finalized the divorce, so you are still my wife by name. You should at least think of Mike Corporation's reputation and your own reputation!"
"You took Lydia to Tideview Manor when we were married and forced me to sign the divorce papers. Kalus, did you ever think about how I felt?"
I scoffed. "I always do unto others as they do unto me. Why should I care about your company's reputation now? Besides, I have resigned from being the CEO's wife to your beloved Lydia. Go to her if you so much care about the company's reputation!"
Frank raised an eyebrow and sipped his tea.
That was the true Dera Denz. The submissive, humble wife who never once complained in all those three years of her wedded life was something I kept exclusively for Kalus.
Even though Frank loved his sister no matter what, he enjoyed it a lot more when I was that force to be reckoned with.
Fortunately that fearless and bold Dera was back.
"I don't have time to quarrel with you now." Kalus's tone was slightly tired. "Grandpa is in the hospital, and he has been calling for you. He won't take his medicine until he sees you."
My heart trembled.
Even though Kalus and I had broken up, Joseph had been nice to me while I lived with the Mikes for three years. When I left, I gave up everything. The only thing that I missed was Joseph.
"He's in Zz Hospital, isn't he? I'll go visit Grandpa later."
Hanging up the phone, I exhaled a deep breath with a grieving heart.
"Dera, I'll take you there," Frank offered.
"Don't mind. I'm going to see Grandpa, not to fight with Kalus. If you send me, the fight will be more serious."
I waved my hands anxiously. "I'll go there myself then."
At the hospital, Kalus and Ian stood guard outside Joseph's ward.
I hastened over. I hadn't seen Kalus in a couple of days, but from the appearance of him, I knew that he had lost weight.
I said to myself, 'Shit! Why the hell should I give a damn? It does not concern me if he gained or lost weight! I don't give a damn if he dies!'
The two men took notice only when they heard my sound of clicking high heels on the ground.
They were both startled, especially Kalus.
He hardly recognized that the woman in front of him had been his wife for three years.
"Mr. Harris, how is Grandpa?" I did not even look at Kalus and spoke only to Ian.
"Is that Young Madam?" Ian was surprised and asked a pretty dumb question.
The woman standing before him was gorgeous, with flawless makeup. Her red lips were really sexy, and her black pencil skirt that fit her closely made her legs seem so long. She resembled a hotshot lady boss. The butterfly ruby brooch on her chest was also really dazzling, but it did not overshadow her bright eyes.
I hadn't realized I had failed to dress in a white dress and sneakers—the submissive Amara Kol's typical wear—until then, being in a hurry.
"Yes, in person. Why so shocked? Don't you like my new look?"
"No, no… You are lovelier than ever before! You also look more self-assured and vibrant when you wear an outfit like that." Ian spoke what was in his mind.
"Gee, really? That's most likely because I recently got divorced."
I grinned and went on, "I crawled out of a living hell and finally saw the light of day again, so of course I'd look more spirited."
Kalus's handsome face darkened for a moment. He was furious. "If you thought my house was a hellhole, why did you stick around with me for three years? I've told you time and time again that you can end the contract. I could have taken you to see Grandpa at any time. You didn't need to stick around like you're doing a three-year sentence."
My heart ached.
This was Kalus Mike. No one could deflect him from his conclusions. If he had a likeliness for some one, then he would be kind to them like a jewel. If a person disliked him, he would ignore the person no matter what favors she/he did for him.
I went headlong in love with this cold and indifferent man. The price paid on this passion was also worth remembrance.
I had promised Grandpa that I would stay with you for three years, and I wanted to honor my promise. But you're free now, Mr. Mike. You can bring any woman home from now on, and you no longer have to sneak out to see your lover." I sneered, but I still looked stunning.
Kalus felt his throat constrict.
He thought, 'Why was this woman so fake? Did she think that she could be negligent after our divorce? But I have to admit that she looks much better with this tough demeanor than her submissive look before.'
Kalus's eyes gleamed with admiration.
"Kalus!"
I was about to turn around and watch Lydia and Zera running towards me.
Seeing that I was around, Lydia appeared slightly hostile, but she soon covered it up with a lovely smile.
"Why have you come here?" Kalus questioned in surprise.
Hardly had he said this when Lydia wrapped her arms around his waist and gave him a hug.
"Kalus, why did you not tell me about such a great mishap? Do you not treat me as a member of your family?
"Kalus, you didn't see how upset Rose was when she heard that your grandfather was in the hospital. She even vomited some of her lunch…" Zera watched her niece nervously.
"why did you vomit? Is something the matter?" Kalus's worry was written on her face.
"Rose always had a problem with her stomach. She gets sick whenever she's scared or nervous. She has seen a lot of doctors, and they all told her it's not a serious issue. There's no treatment for it, though." Zera sighed.
"I will look for a doctor to cure Rose. If there are no results, I will take her overseas to see a specialist." Kalus's tone was gentle. He wrapped his arms around Lydia's waist.
I jeered and recalled the time I had gone to the hospital alone due to stomach flu. I was sweating heavily and was very weak and wan. But Kalus never so much as asked after me.
As it so turned out, Kalus understood how to provide for people.
But to him, I did not even qualify for his care.
Lydia moved closer to Kalus and looked at me with a snickering smile.
She was pondering, 'Wait a minute! Where is Amara now? How did she end up so beautiful? That brooch made from a butterfly is the latest creation of Alexa, the best jewel maker in Orbia. That cost $5 million! Why should such a costly jewel be afforded by such a poor little country girl like this? How could such a bitch be this rich?!'
"Kalus, bring Rose with you to see your grandfather. Rose had cried once when we arrived here because she cared so much." Zera persuaded her stepson to accompany her niece and completely disregarded her former daughter-in-law, who had been living with them for three years.
My face grew cold. I no longer cared about Kalus, let alone the rest of the Mike family.
When this time came, the ward door was opened. Joseph's assistant, Matt Upton, came out.
"Mr. Mike told me to check if his granddaughter-in-law had arrived."
When I heard these words, Lydia's face hardened, and she could not help her jealousy.
"I am here, Uncle Matt." I walked forward nervously.
I was worried about Joseph, so I did not even mind correcting Matt's address on my behalf.
"Little Miss." Matt nodded respectfully in the direction of the ward. "Go in with Little Master Kalus, please."
I went into the ward without a word.
Kalus pursed his thin lips and went in as well.
"Kalus, wait for me…"
Lydia tried to follow them, but Matt stepped in her way.
"I'm sorry. Mr. Mike only invited in his grandson and granddaughter-in-law. He will not see anyone else. You can go away."
I glanced down and saw Kalus Mike's name on the phone screen."Mr. Mike," I said in a chill voice.Dean Denz scowled, rose from his chair, and overheard our conversation."Mr. Denz, I must talk to Amara. I have something to tell her." Kalus spoke softly, with an undertone of concern."Amara is not available at present.""When will she be available then?""For you, she's never available."I was always courteous and mannered. Yet, whenever I dissed, I went in with guns blazing.Dean fisted his hands eagerly and considered, 'Well said!'On the receiving end, Kalus took a personal offense. His expression was sullen."Since Amara has changed her number, that's a sign that she doesn't want you to call her. Even if you haven't finalized the divorce yet, you should leave her alone if you have the basics of manhood. Second, I already know what happened at the charity auction."The eyes of Kalus narrowed. His heart felt as though it was being strangulated with barbed wire.Dean flinched at the
"U… U…" Carrie's tears well up as she is choked."You only want to fight us. We do not like Amara, and hence you want to help her. Is that so that you can show you are different and correct?!!"Bethany's nice face was contorted then. "Stop trying so hard! Ryan can never love a crazy person like you!""Ms. Bethany! What are you doing?" Wilma came running and hugged Carrie, who was wailing uncontrollably. The rest of the Tideview Manor staff were long accustomed to such a scene, and none would ever stand in the way of Bethany.Wilma alone had the guts to confront Carrie since she had served Kalus Mike for the longest time and could not stand how Bethany would bully Carrie."Wilma, get out! None of your business!" Bethany was also angry with Wilma."I think you should leave!"While comforting the trembling Carrie, Wilma glared at Bethany and warned her, "If you go out of this door today, I will pretend that I saw nothing. Otherwise, I will tell Young Master Kalus Mike exactly how you bul
Once I had returned from the charity auction, I locked myself into the room and would not open it to anyone. It was not a normal occurrence.Frank and Dean came to the villa at night to visit their sister. Though I went down to receive them, I was tired and exhausted."Dera, I heard what had happened at the auction."Frank hurried over and grasped my sister's gauze-covered hand. He rubbed her hand back and forth several times with concern. "How is your injury? Did Steve treat you and re-dress the wound? Does it still hurt? Is there infection?I've learned medicine, so I can manage it myself. Steve has enough on his plate. I don't want to burden him with something so trivial." I withdrew my hand and grumbled."Steve is getting more unreliable! If we hadn't gone home and met Aunt Mila, we wouldn't have known about this! Why didn't you tell us that the Salvadors bullied you at the auction?"Dean's eyes were full of hatred. "I am going to serve Salvador Corporation with a summons tomorrow
ACE was Ryan's upscale club.Kalus Mike was gloomy at night, so for the first time ever, he invited Ryan out to have a drink. Ryan rode over to his place in person. After all, Kalus Mike had only gone out of his way to hang out with him a couple of times since they were little kids."Sometimes I want to be your mistress," Ryan whispered in Kalus Mike's ear. In public, he was an unyielding emperor, but before Kalus Mike, he was a nagging mistress."I've never felt this way with women but with you, I just feel so neglected. Meanwhile, I'll be at your beck and call. I always rush to join you as soon as you call me. See what a good friend I am! I'm so touched by myself!""Have you never been so attached to a woman?" Kalus Mike glared at him. "I think you're quite attached to Amara." "Well, she's the first because she's such a great woman. I just can't help it." Kalus Mike flicked his eyebrows. He shifted his thin lips and restrained himself from cursing him.Two beautiful girls walked b
Mike Kalus's piercing eyes narrowed, focusing on Lydia's pale face, as though a storm was brewing. He let go of Lydia's hand slowly.Lydia was like a drowning person who had just lost her life-saving raft. She ignored the wound on her wrist and embraced Kalus Mike's waist in a hurry. "No, Kalus Mike! Amara provoked me first! I really didn't disturb her! Carrie has long been sick in the head, so you can't believe her!Sick in the head? All Carrie has is a bad haircut. She had clearly explained to them what had happened between Amara and Lydia." Ryan sneered. However, he did not say anything too terrible for Kalus Mike's sake.Even a playboy like Ryan looked down on Lydia, but Kalus Mike considered that scheming bitch his treasure. It was as if he was under her spell."Amara didn't hurt you, did she?" Kalus Mike gasped. He was starting to sound strained. In front of Carrie, who was a witness, Lydia could no longer lie. She was coldly sweating."So, you lied about Amara?"Kalus Mike felt
"Wait!" Kalus Mike yelled out. After listening to what I had said, Kalus Mike felt a fury of no explanation in his chest. "Ms. Kol, do you not still owe me an apology?" he spoke slowly.Ryan uttered a disapproving huff. He wanted to pull off his socks and stick them in Kalus Mike's mouth.I felt a blunt pain in my heart. I turned back to him with no care.Kalus Mike had thought that my piercing and disillusioned expression had reached his very soul."It wasn't Annie! It wasn't Annie!"A soft and gentle voice had appeared in the nick of time, catching out those people who had ill in their hearts. My eyes widened when I saw in the direction of the sound."Carrie!"A girl wearing an ordinary white frock with a "cauliflower" hairdo and a fair and slender face was going towards them. This ridiculous cut was the handiwork of Bethany's "masterpiece."In the Salvador household, Bethany had always treated Carrie as her pretend adversary.Bethany hated the fact that her sister was more beautifu
