Chapter 4. Resignation

Jessica woke up with a throbbing headache. Her head ached, her foot ached. Her body ached. Everything just ached. She sat up slowly trying not to strain her foot. As her thoughts flooded into her mind with the events of last night, she felt nauseas. She remembered going to the hospital and then everything was blank.Jessica was blank. She really could not remember anything after the hospital and this made her panic. She could feel an anxiety attack rising within her. Her chest tightened. She felt as if she was suffocating. She cupped her hands over her mouth taking a few deep, quick breathes. A technique she learnes when she was a child. It was something she lived with most of her life. Whenever she got stressed out, even by the most slightest things, she would freak out drastically, leading to a panic attack.

As she calmed down and started to massage her temples her daughter jumped on the bed next to her. " Hey mom, what happened to your foot?" she asked, her eyebrows now furrowed. She hugged her mom gently. Jessica felt warm and comforted. She kissed the top of her daughter's head and smiled. Her little girl was such an angel. She was grateful that her daughter had inherited her traits. All good qualities from her side of the family. Her looks, her intelligence, her wit and her strength. Her husband is a douche bag, she would never want her daughter to learn his bad habits or accept it from any man like she did. She was just vulnerable to him. She always fantasized about him dropping dead. He drank so much beer, she always wondered when he would just have a heart attack. She knew it was ill of her to think such a thing, but she didn't see any other way out of this torturous marriage. It wasn't even a marriage. She felt like a slave.

*Bang*

The door swung open. "Jessica, you rotten whore, go partying, sleeping around with men and have them leave you home. Look at your state. So much of fun, you sprained your ankle. Call yourself a mother. You are a slut", her husband's screamed at the top of his voice. He knew what he had done, he had made sure the neighbour's heard his curses.

Jessica blocked Jamies ears," how dare you speak such filth in front of our daughter? ".

"Filth? Filth? Do you really think I speak filth? I am speaking the truth. She should know by now what type of a woman you are!!! Cheap! Selling your body for money!!!!!! A prostitute!!!!! A whore!!!! You shameless woman!!!" he shouted rudely, saliva spraying.

Jessica could smell the alcohol from his breath.

Jessica's eyes were red with unshed tears, " selling my body? I go to work! Something you haven't done in years! You pathetic excuse for a man".

"Well my dear wife, I gave your new toy boy a peice of my mind,I doubt he will call you to his bed again".

"How dare you do such a thing? My job is our bread and butter!!! And he is not a toy boy. He is my work colleague. " Jessica's tears now began to slide down her cheeks. Her lips trembled from the anger she felt inside. Jamie placed her head in her mother's lap. She was scared. She witnessed such episodes quite often. She was already twelve and understood everything clearly. She knew her mother was not a whore. She knew her father was a good for nothing drunk. He sat at home drinking and watching TV. Waiting for her mother to come home to clean up behind him. Cooking meals and helping her do her homework. To her, her mother was superwoman. She was her role model. She wished she had a functioning family like everyone else but she didn't. Some days she wished her father would drop dead. He made no difference in her life. He is just taking up space and air on the earth.

Jessica's heart pounded in her chest. The tears spilled down her red cheeks soaking her shirt. " How could he embarrass her this way. She had just started this job. Although she was the least liked in the firm, it was still a paycheck",Jessica thought, " How do I face Charlie when I go back? Would the whole office know? Would Mark know? I am ruined. "

Jessica asked Jamie to bring her laptop. She opened it and typed in her password, going straight into her emails. She had to resolve this issue now.

She looked for the HR email address, scrolling up and down, through her inbox, outbox, spam and sent. Nothing came up. She searched for it. Still nothing.

She once again strolled up and down only to realise the only person's email address in the firm that she did have was Mark. MARK MOLT. Her boss. It was her work laptop after all.

She began to type.

Dear Mark,

I trust you are well.

I regret to inform you that this mail serves as an immediate notification of my resignation. Due to personal reasons, I am unable to attend work at your company going forward. I will hand in all company possessions once I am able to.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

Jessica Brown.

Jessica read it twice. Her heart ached just thinking about resigning. But she knew she could no longer work there after the scene Rudy had caused. She knew it would have been horrible. She clicked the send button and inhaled sharply. She sent her heart clenching email. She blamed herself for going to the party. If she had just stayed at home. And on top of going to a party, she tried her best to look hot which was disastrous.

It's back to the job hunting. She was lucky to even land this job. Now she had to let it go. Her husband was like a curse in her life.

She looked at the sent box, her mail was sent. She held her head in her hands. Another new stress she has added to her life. She never knew she could turn her life upside down by just attending a party.

There was no turning back now.
