Chapter 2

Author: Frosty
"Scarlett is disrespecting Tristan and has no sense of wifely virtue. She deserves whatever miserable end he gives her!"

I gripped my phone tighter as a silent sneer played on my lips.

What day and age were we in that people were still talking about wifely virtues?

I used to be so satisfied with Tristan Harrington and thought he was a true gentleman, free of fragile masculinity. Now, reading these comments, I realized that it was all an act. He'd married me with the goal of swallowing the Thorne family fortune whole.

I could barely hold back a cold laugh.

If he thought I was an easy target just because I was the only daughter left of the Thorne family, he shouldn't blame me for forgetting whatever ties our families once had when I devour the Harringtons.

When the live stream had hit a million viewers, I suggested, "The police will take a while to arrive. In the meantime, I'll introduce some of our company's products. It's the perfect marketing opportunity."

When the directors noticed the skyrocketing traffic and numbers, they nodded without hesitation. "That's some smart thinking, young lady. Go ahead and make it sound good so you can actually promote us!"

Holding my phone, I slowly walked deeper into the cold storage. Under the pretense of introducing our wine, I made my way toward the freezer where the two were hiding.

"These freezers are our latest in-house design with an incredibly powerful flash-freeze capability. It can drop the internal temperature by 68 degrees Fahrenheit in just three minutes. Let me give the viewers a quick demonstration."

As I spoke, I reached out and flipped the flash-freeze switch. The freezer began to hum loudly to life.

The comment section exploded.

"Oh my god, 68 degrees Fahrenheit? Is she trying to freeze Tristan and Daisy to death?"

"Daisy's face is already pale, and there's frost on her eyelashes. Good thing Tristan is holding her tight, and they're even kissing. That's so sweet!"

"Relax. The temperature of the freezer can be controlled remotely. Tristan has his phone, so he adjusted the settings back."

Just then, David stepped up to stop me. "I think I saw the freezer move. What if the thief is hiding in there?

"Maybe we should just lock the main door of the cold storage. We don't know where they are right now, and there's a chance they're armed with a knife or weapon."

I smiled and reached out. "Well, if they're hiding in there, we'll just have to open it to find out, right?"

The moment the words left my lips, the viewers panicked.

"She's not actually going to open it, is she? This is a live stream with a million viewers!"

"Daisy and Tristan both heard her, and Daisy is crying in fright. Poor thing."

"They're both not wearing anything, so they're going to be so embarrassed if the door opens. Oh god… Did Scarlett sense something?"

Amidst the frantic comments, I pretended that the freezer door wouldn't budge and frowned. "Looks like this freezer's broken and won't open. I'll have a word with Quality Control later about their inspection standards."

Viewers in the comments section heaved a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness she couldn't get it open."

"Temperature in the freezer is back to normal now, so Tristan and Daisy can probably hold on a lot longer. They just need to wait until these lunatics leave."

I glanced at the comments and let out a cold laugh.

"Leave?" I thought. Did they forget that I called the police?

"Why aren't the police here yet? Their response time is way too slow," I said, pretending to complain and look toward the door.

John waved his hand and announced, "The head of security just told me that they've arrived at the door of the building. They're on their way up now."

The comment section exploded.

"I forgot this vicious woman called the cops! What do we do now? Tristan and Daisy are going to be exposed!"

"Tristan is so smart. He's using his phone to call for backup."

Seeing that last comment, I narrowed my eyes and turned around just in time to see David sneaking toward the exit. I didn't have to guess to know that he was going to bribe the police and bury the whole incident.

So, I immediately raised my voice and declared, "Everyone, the thief is still at large. It's very possible that a spy in our company is keeping in touch with them and helping them escape through the back door!

"To ensure everyone's safety and to prove your innocence, let's all keep an eye on each other until the police arrive. No one is allowed to leave this room.

"Otherwise, whoever leaves is the spy."

When Tristan saw the cold, detached look on Richard's face, he knew that no one was coming to save him. Something in him snapped."I wanted him dead!" he roared. "Why is it that whenever anyone mentions the Harringtons, they only know Ethan, and not Tristan?""Everyone looks down on me and treats me like some useless playboy. They keep comparing me to him, but how was I any worse than him?"Richard said in a voice heavy with exhaustion, "This is the path you chose. You were the one who refused to take on the responsibility of inheriting the family business."Victoria chimed in, "Your father and I treated you both exactly the same when you were kids. You had the same education, and you were the one who couldn't handle the boring classes, so you voluntarily gave up your inheritance."I never imagined you'd kill Ethan out of pure jealousy."She looked at him disappointedly. "I spoiled you more because you were the youngest, but how did you suddenly turn out this way?"Drained, Tris

I took the wedding ring from Tristan's hand, toyed with it for a moment, and flicked it far into the distance. Then, I smiled and said, "Even if you ask a million times today, I'll never marry you."Tristan's expression completely darkened as he furiously hissed, "Everyone's watching, Scarlett. What tantrum are you throwing now?"I gently shook my head. "I'm not throwing a tantrum; I'm simply refusing to marry a murderer."As the words left my lips, police officers threw the doors open and marched up to Tristan before presenting a warrant. "Tristan Harrington, following our investigation, you're suspected of murdering Mr. Ethan Harrington. Please come with us."The officer's loud voice boomed across the entire estate, and the guests turned to look at Tristan in disbelief."Tristan killed his brother? Is he insane?""So this is how brutal power struggles in wealthy families can get. He won't even spare his family."Tristan's face turned a sickly grey when he heard the officer's

I squinted and studied Tristan's face closely. When he spoke those words, a flicker of genuine joy and triumph flashed in his eyes.My heart sank as I wondered if Ethan's death was just an accident. As suspicion took root, I immediately hired a private team to dig deeper. Finally, on the day before the wedding, a stack of evidence was compiled into a neat file and placed on my desk. After reading through it, I exhaled heavily and drove to the Harrington residence to have a long, private conversation with Richard.…The wedding preparations were in full swing. A few days before the ceremony, Tristan came to me and said, "Scarlett, we both have companies to inherit, so I'm not asking for anything else. All you have to do is give me a son."If you want an heir to inherit the Thorne family business, I'll let him take your last name."The comment section, which had been silent for a while now, flickered back to life. "Tristan's smart. That way, she'd have at least two pregnancies,

Dad owed a life-saving debt to Tristan's father, Richard Harrington. As a result, I couldn't use aggressive business tactics to bankroll the Harringtons into bankruptcy.Finding a gentle way to acquire their assets was a problem. But then, an idea hit me. With a plan forming in my mind, I didn't bother looking back at Tristan and Daisy's silent, flirtatious exchange and quickly turned to leave.…Dad was waiting on the couch when I got home. He solemnly said, "I've looked into what happened today. How will you handle the arranged marriage with the Harringtons?"There was anger and regret in his eyes as if he hadn't expected to be blinded and misjudged someone so badly.I sat beside him and replied, "I'm definitely not marrying Tristan, but I'm going to take the Harrington family's fortune."He frowned slightly. "Richard saved my life, so we can't be ungrateful.""I know, and that's why I need you to look into something that might've happened abroad. If we can confirm it, I have

I didn't bother sparing Tristan any dignity and coldly said, "Tristan, you were caught fooling around with your little childhood sweetheart in a freezer before we're even married. What right do you have to criticize me?"The engagement between the Harrington and Thorne families is over. Go enjoy spending the rest of your life with your little lover."Tristan's expression shifted, but before he could respond, Daisy looked up at me pitifully. "You've gotten the wrong idea, Scarlett. Tristan and I grew up together, and he just takes care of me out of habit. There's nothing romantic going on."If I'm the reason your arranged marriage falls apart, I'd be the sinner here."I let out a quiet scoff at her words. She was subtly reminding me that her bond with Tristan ran deep, so even if he married me, she'd always come first.Tristan nodded with self-righteous indignation. "I've always treated Daisy like a sister, so don't twist things just because you have a dirty mind."Besides, am I

"Given everything that's happened today, I don't think I can continue hosting the tenth anniversary gala," I announced."I'd appreciate it if you could handle our key clients while I head to the hospital to check on my fiance and his childhood sweetheart."Every director looked like they were dying for gossip, while John waved me off."Go on. The company won't stop running without you; we old folks can still manage."The others quickly echoed him. "Scarlett, you should focus on sorting out your marriage first."Everyone knew that this company was just a subsidiary of Harrington Corporation, meant as a training ground for Tristan. As the heiress of the Thornes, the only reason I held a position here and worked so hard hands-on was out of respect for the relationship between our two families.I smiled, nodded, and politely turned to the police. "Thank you for your hard work, officers. Please keep me posted on the investigation.""If I hadn't arrived in time, my fiance and his chi
