SOPHIA POV.

My heart stopped beating. Miguel's name circled in the middle of Blade's evidence wall. There were photos, dates. The red thread interlocking clues I hadn't discovered in the five years I had worked in the Agency. How had he gathered so much in so little time? I seemed to glance at the wall for what seemed like years. He had a whole system that seemed to be working for him, and what did I have? Nothing, just overbearing superiors and messed-up direction.

I let out a short, angry lau

SOPHIA POV.Cold sweat ran down my spine. This was one of the evidence I was searching for. The piece I thought would put the Iron Wolves away for good. The drive was attached to a key chain, and it dangled from Blade's finger. I swallowed as I glanced at him. " I'm a federal agent. Are you sure you want to show me what could potentially become evidence ?"He didn't flinch as he assessed me coldly. " I have no problem showing you this; this would actually show you who you should really be after."I stared at the device. If it contained everything from that night, then I would probably see Miguel being attacked again. Did I want to see that again?"Alright, let's play it all out."Tightening his hands around the device, he pulled another chair closer to me as he opened a laptop.Plugging in the USB, we waited for the device to load in silence. He directed the cursor to open a file and a video loop started. He led it back to the beginning. The video was grainy and the audio was strangle

I seemed to glance at the wall for what seemed like years. He had a whole system that seemed to be working for him, and what did I have? Nothing, just overbearing superiors and messed-up direction.I let out a short, angry laugh, raking my fingers through my hair. I bit my lip in frustration as I looked up towards Blade. "Tell me everything you know about Miguel and this investigation. I want to know all you have uncovered."Blade stared at me in silence, his eyes seemed to be measuring me. I stood straighter as I looked up at him, my eyes daring him to deny my request. If he refused to tell me, I would do all it takes to sneak back in here and secure the information surrounding Miguel's death. He told me roughly, "W

BLADE POV.I didn't know what I was thinking about inviting her over, others would cower at the thought of visiting the compound. Yet here I was inviting someone like Sophia. What if she couldn't stand the place? What if she hated the place? I paced around the place checking the time. Why was she late? Would she bail on the visit?"Why am I pacing around like an idiot?" I asked no one in particular. Some members were trying to walk around me without asking what the issue was. No one wanted to ask because I would probably bite off their head without fail.Ash pranced around me like a filly:"Why are you so worked up, Blade? Are you expecting the grim reaper ". I rolled my eyes and gave a deep sigh. I turned towards him to give a reply when I heard a little commotion. It was coming from the gate."Don't have time for you Ash. Go bother someone else," I said, making my way down to the gate. As I got there to see what the problem was when I spotted her. She was kneeling in front of one of

SOPHIA POV.I made my way to my room with the enthusiasm of a drunk driver. My legs felt like noodles as I turned the key in the lock. I breathed in the smell of disinfectant, my brain refusing to analyze why my room smelled that way. Dropping my bag on the table, I flung myself on the bed face down. The shift today was a little busy and I was so tired. The case, the gang, it was all getting to me, and I was so overwhelmed. I brought out Miguel's photo and stroked the picture. I wanted to hear his voice again, but I knew that was impossible, but I needed to hear something familiar.I took out my phone and dialed a number. I cautioned myself not to contact on missions, but I needed to hear the person. The call didn't go through, and I dialed again, sitting up on my bed as I waited anxiously."Hello, Sophia," a sweet voice answered, making me sigh in relief."Mami, were you sleeping?" I asked. Hearing her instantly calmed me. I had promised not to call her on missions, she was the only

BLADE POVThe air conditioning in my room did little to calm me as I cross-referenced everything on my table, making sure I made no mistake in the documentation, I took a sip from my glass of whiskey on the far corner of the table. The single overhead light illuminating the table and casting long shadows off the far wall and the papers on the table shone like I was interrogating a suspect.Being the Iron Wolf's enforcer was more than just snatching secrets, threatening people or ensuring swift justice. I had to ensure the safety of the members and to make sure any cause being fought for was worth it without maximum bloodshed. For three years, I had been fleshing out the evidence I had against those motherfuckers, espionage different truths about those bastards, things I could use to bring them devil disciples to their knees. That is what I try to remind myself as I scowl at the different documents and files in front of me. My hands massaging my temple against an upcoming headache. For

Sophia PovThe blue light of the screen felt like a physical weight against my eyes, even now that the phone was lying on the duvet. I stayed perfectly still, the rhythmic hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen suddenly sounding like a countdown. It was just one image. One image of names on a sheet of paper I wasn't meant to have seen.I rolled onto my back, staring up at the ceiling where the shadows of the window frame stretched out like long, skeletal fingers. My heart was doing a slow, heavy thud against my ribs, the kind of beat that vibrates in your ears until it’s all you can hear. I tried to rationalize it. I tried to tell myself that context is everything. But I knew better. The coldness settling in my gut wasn't from the draft under the door.I reached out, my hand hovering over the cold glass of the phone. I wanted to pick it up and delete it to scrub the digital footprint until my reality felt clean again. But the knowledge was already under my skin, itching like a fever.I
