MasukChapter 2
Sophia pov The night dragged on like a tortoise. I continued to serve drinks to other regular customers, mainly the town folks, while keeping an eye on the group of Iron wolf bikers. I smiled at gross jokes, and politely declined the numerous advances that were made on me. I have lost count. But all the time, my attention didn't shift from the Iron Wolves. They talked about "shipments" and "problems that need solving" right out in the open, like they owned the world. Maybe they actually did. The rest of the night blurred past in a haze of fear and adrenaline. The last call came at 2 AM. "Come on, pretty girl, give me a kiss." One of my numerous admirers grabbed my hands. The smell of alcohol irritated my nose. Apparently he was drunk. "Back off," I warned, already calculating which finger to break first. But the man didn't seem to listen to reasoning. “Come on, a pretty girl as you are needs a man to service her.” That did it. I spun hard, wanting to show the drunkard the difference between a pretty girl and a mean girl, but I didn't have the chance to. The man flew backward like he'd been hit by a truck. I looked up only to see a raging Blade. one hand was wrapped around the drunk's throat, as he lifted him off the ground. "The lady said back off," Blade said calmly. "I didn't... I wasn't..." the drunk gasped. "You weren't leaving. Now you are." Blade dropped him. The man immediately picked himself up, before he bolted through the door like his pants were on fire. "I could have handled it," I said, slightly annoyed. "I know." Blade stepped closer. So close I could smell the familiar manly scent wrapped around me like a dangerous snake. "That's what's interesting. You have got combat training. The way you stand, how you moved when he grabbed you. Either that bad boyfriend taught you to fight, or..." "Or what?" My heart was hammering hard now. He leaned down until his lips almost touched my ear. His breath was warm on my skin. "You are hiding something, I could feel it in my bones. It's just a matter of time. I froze, the world stopped for a moment. Had he found out? Has my cover been blown? What gave me away? Numerous questions swarmed in my head. But my years in the FBI had taught me how to mask my feelings. "I don't know what you're talking about," I lied. "Sure you don't." He pulled back, those blue eyes reading me like a menu. "Word of advice… Razor lost his brother to an undercover cop five years ago. He hates feds more than anything. If he finds out that you are one, you won't make it to your second shift." "Why are you telling me this?" I whispered, I could literally feel the pang of fear crawling its way up my spine. "Because I'm curious what game you're playing." He paused, studying me. "And because you remind me of someone who thought they could swim with sharks without bleeding." “Time to head back, boys” he called out to his gang, and like obedient children, no one disputed him. Even Tank their leader. Which made me question who was actually the main leader. I watched in sheer shock as the iron wolves filed out one by one. Tank nodded goodbye at Amy, who had come out. Blade was the last to go, but he didn't leave immediately, He turned to look at me one last time, “I hope to see you around.” Then he was gone, the door swinging shut behind him. Amy appeared beside me. "I told you to stay away from him." "Yeah," I managed to answer, "You did." “Then what was that about?" "I have no idea," I lied again. ******************************* Fucking stupid bikers I cursed hard. Kicking out my shoe at the door of the cheap motel room I was staying in. “Are you okay Sophia?” Maya's worried voice came through the earpiece, giving me a jump scare. Fucking piece of crab I ripped out the earpiece I had forgotten that was on throughout. Maya was waiting on our encrypted line, her voice tight with worry. "He is already suspicious of you," she said immediately. "We need to pull you out. Tonight." "No." I was already shaking my head. "He is just suspicious, Maya. There is no way he could know my true identity." "Or he's just playing you! Sophia, these aren't stupid street thugs. The Iron Wolves are dangerous. More especially their enforcer, he is the most mysterious of them all.” I pulled out the photo I had always kept hidden in my wallet. It was Miguel, my baby brother, at his high school graduation, cap and gown, smiling so big it hurt to look at. Three weeks later, he was dead. He never had the chance of accomplishing his dream of becoming a pilot. "I know they're dangerous," I said quietly. "That's exactly why they need to pay." KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK I froze. I was not expecting anybody at this time of the day. Moreso, Nobody knew where I was staying. My hand flew to my gun under the pillow. “I will get back to you maya” “What? Sophia, what the…” I immediately cut short the call, pocketing the earpiece. "Who is it?" I called out, slowly moving toward the door. But there was no answer. My finger found the trigger of my gun. My training kicked in… check corners, assess threats, prepare for action. "Just open the fucking door before I break it" I gasped, I recognised his voice immediately, it was unmistakably. “Blade!!” I whispered. Yes, now fucking open the door or be sorry for your lieing ass when the Devil's Disciples who have been following you, finds you first.” My heart sank to the bottom of my stomach. The Devil's Disciples? I looked through the peephole. He stood there alone, hands visible and empty. But his words made my blood run cold. My mind raced. Had I been made by two different motorcycle gangs on my first night? Against every instinct screaming at me not to open the door. I unlocked the door and yanked it open. Blade stood there, and for the first time, I saw something other than cold calculation in his eyes… Fear. "Get inside," he growled, pushing past me. "Now."Sophie povThe drive took me a few minutes before I reached my destination. The rally's location was more spacious than I imagined it to be, but it took a while for me to find a parking space due to the number of bikes parked, and it looked a little too cheerful and colorful for a place filled with hundreds of bikes, leather and smoke. The sea of people looked too difficult to cut through.I still felt out of place here with my leather jacket and high-waist jeans, with a top that clung to me like a second skin. Agent Sophia would be appalled by this show of body and even though bartender Sophie would approve, I felt I was neither.I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin, and with each second that ticked by, I felt more and more like an impostor with serious identity issues. For the hundredth time, I contemplated texting Blade to find out where he was but decided not to.I had to get my bearings together before meeting him. The sounds of kids chasing each other washed over me as I too
Sophie povThe night granted me a lot of things, but sleep wasn't part of the package. I tossed and turned as I wondered why Blade invited me to the festival. We barely knew each other and were on opposite sides of the law. And he was part of the gang that murdered my brother. I shouldn't have accepted, yet I was compelled to.I turned towards my bedside table to see the alarm clock, which read 5:30am. Sh*t."Might as well start my bloody day," I murmured unpleasantly to no one in particular. I had a few hours before I reported to the Desert Rose but I couldn't sit still, my mind was restless as hell. Taking out my brother's picture as I always did whenever I grew restless. Although he was dead, his face had the same effect on me, calming me down and sharpening my focus."Don't worry, baby brother, I'll bring your murderers to justice. Make sure they all rot in jail, and your soul can find peace. I stroked the picture before bringing it to my lips. I shut my eyes for a moment as I rem
Sophia POV.My gun lowered slowly as I stared at Director Morrison sitting in my motel room like he owned the place.“Put the gun down,” my handler, agent Morrison, said in a bored voice, like he broke into motel rooms every day.Maybe he did."How did you get in here?" I asked."I'm FBI. I can get in anywhere." He gestured to the chair across from him. "Sit down, Martinez."“I prefer to stand.”“It's not a request.”I hesitated a little but then went to sit at a chair opposite his own, keeping the gun on my lap where he could see I still had it. My heart hammered so hard I thought it might crack a rib.Morrison looked exactly like he always did. Gray suit, tired eyes, coffee stain on his collar. He had been my handler since I started this assignment. The man who believed in me when nobody else did. The man who promised I would get justice for Miguel. So why was he here currently in my apartment without any prior information? Why did I suddenly feel like prey?"You want to tell me abo
Chapter 5Sophia povI drove to the Desert Rose with my heart in my throat. The parking lot was empty except for about a dozen motorcycles lined up like soldiers. All Iron Wolves.I parked down the street where no one could see my car and crept closer, staying in the shadows like a ninja. Well, a ninja in too-tight jeans and too much lipstick. Not exactly the type of stealth a ninja would be in.Through the dirty bar window, I could see them all gathered inside. Tank stood at the head of a long table, his bald head shining under the lights. Razor sat beside him, arms crossed, looking angry. And Blade…he… stood against the wall with his arms folded, face like a thundercloud. My hands shook as I crouched behind a rusty dumpster across from the Desert Rose. Through the dirty bar window, I could see everything perfectly.I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I didn't need to. The tension was so thick I could feel it even through the glass. What on earth was going on?Tank stood at t
CHAPTER four: Sophia povI didn't sleep. How could I? Blade knew who I was. The Devil's Disciples were hunting me. And my perfect cover was now full of holes.I sat on the ugly motel bed, staring at my phone, while tapping absentmindedly on the table. I was expecting the call from my supervisor in the headquarters. I was still contemplating if to tell him the truth. Probably report the enforcer to him, tell him that the devil's disciples were hot on my trail.Instead, I pulled up Miguel's photo again."I'm not giving up," I whispered to his smiling face. "I promise."My phone buzzed suddenly.…Unknown number.“Stay home tomorrow. Don't come to the bar.” -BBlade!His name rang in my head. How did he get my number? I never gave… Oh, right, he knew everything.I typed back, “I have a job to do.”His response came immediately: You have a death wish. There's a difference. Why do you care?Three dots appeared, then disappeared. Then it appeared again. “I don't. Just don't want the FBI cr
CHAPTER three: BLADE POVThe cop let me in, or she didn't have much choice.I locked the door behind me and my battle instincts kicked in immediately. In three seconds I surveyed the entire one room apartment. I took note of the almost empty sitting room, the kitchen that looked so neat then the bedroom.Only one escape route, that was the only door I had just come in, and probably where the three Devil's Disciples were about to knock."Who are you really?" the cop whispered, her gun still pointed at my chest. Cute. Like that would stop me if I wanted her dead."Someone trying to keep you alive." I pulled out my phone, fingers flying over the screen. "You got bursted tonight.""Impossible. My cover's perfect…" I started,"Your cover's garbage." I sent a quick text, before glancing at the gun that only special agents possess."You smell like a cop. Walk like a cop, Talk like a cop. The only reason Tank didn't see it is because he trusts everyone too much. But Venom?" I gestured towa
