(Alina’s POV)

What she asked hd made the hairs on the back of my neck stand.

I turned slowly,

And then I saw her.

Leaning against the hallway wall, arms folded, one perfectly arched brow lifted.

She was in high-waisted jeans and a fitted maroon top, her glossy curls falling around her shoulders.

It was my step sister Clara.

Of course it was her.

My mouth parted slightly, but no words came out.

My heart thudded hard against my ribcage.

All I could do for the first few seconds was stare with my frame frozen in the dim light.

“What…”

I finally managed to whisper as my hand gripped the strap of my purse.

“What are you doing here?”

Clara did not  answer immediately.

She  Just gave the kind of smirk that wasn’t full amusement it was curiosity mixed  with accusation.

Then came the pause. A long, loaded silence.

How the hell did she know I went out?

And not just that, but that it had been with a man.

Did she somehow know who he was?

Or worse still everything that had happened between us,?

My mind scrambled for logic, for cover, for an escape.

But before my thoughts could spin too far, she tilted her head slightly and said, in that breezy, mocking tone that always made my skin crawl:

“Oh, relax.”

 She waved dismissively

“I didn’t hack your phone or anything dramatic. I went to get takeout from Bella Figaro’s”

I blinked. That was the restaurant I had just visited with Damien.

“And…and  I had just picked up my order when I spotted you sitting by the window with some really… ridiculously handsome dude,” she added with a pointed look

. “I almost didn’t recognize you. You were glowing.”

My heart skipped at her words.

So she had seen us.

Me and Damian.

Sitting there. Probably leaning a little too close. Probably looking like we knew each other too well for a first date.

I swallowed hard, eyes wide.

“Clara…”

“I didn’t interrupt,” she added sweetly to cut me off.

“Didn’t want to ruin your little romantic moment. Though, judging by how quickly he left, maybe I should’ve said hello.”

Before I could even respond, the sound of footsteps echoed from the hallway behind her.

We both flinched.

But I flinched harder.

Clara’s head snapped in the direction of the sound, and I instinctively reached out to hush her with a whisper,

 “Please… not now.”

The footsteps started to get closer. The steps of a man.

Then he appeared.

Our father.

His tall frame filled the space, dressed in his usual print shirt and dark slacks, reading glasses perched low on his nose.

He looked like he was just returning from the study.

The moment his eyes fell on us, he paused.

His gaze darted from Clara’s crossed arms to the panic I was failing to completely wipe off from my face.

“What’s going on here?”

he finally asked to break the silence.

Clara opened her mouth and at the same time I did.

We both started to speak at once.

Then she stepped back slightly and gestured for me to go ahead.

“Alina?”

I forced a light chuckle, trying to steady the tremble in my voice.

“Oh, it’s nothing, Dad. Clara just surprised me. I wasn’t expecting her, and we got into a bit of a playful argument about… um, food preferences.”

“Food preferences?”

he repeated, folding his arms slowly.

I nodded too fast.

“Yeah. You know… pasta versus rice. She’s team Alfredo. I’m strictly jollof.”

I added with a nervous smile, hoping it masked the rising anxiety in my veins.

He studied me.

Didn’t blink.

Didn’t speak.

Just watched me like he was reading between every syllable.

And then suddenly the vibration and  sound sliced through the silence like a blade.

It was my phone, it wasn't ringing in my bag.

My heart nearly stopped.

I could tell who was calling even without checking.

“Damian”

Oh God.

Please no.

Dad’s eyes shifted toward the bag.

 “You going to get that?”

LI could barely breathe. My fingers twitched at my side, hovering toward the purse like it might explode.

I forced a weak smile.

“It’s probably nothing. I’ll check it later.”

But even I didn’t believe myself.

And judging by the way Clara was looking at me neither did she.

The ringtone echoed louder now, somehow magnified by the silence in the room.

I could feel both of their eyes on me, but it was his own that made my skin prickle.

My father didn’t say a word.

He just kept watching.

But his stare was heavy with expectation, like he was giving me the rope to either climb out or hang myself.

I couldn’t breathe properly.

Clara stood off to the side, arms still folded, her expression unreadable but clearly entertained. Her lips pressed together like she was biting down a smirk, like she knew this was unraveling me.

I didn’t want to answer.

But I didn’t have a choice anymore.

With shaky fingers, I slowly slid the strap of my purse off my shoulder and unzipped the top flap. My heart was hammering so loud I could barely hear the ringtone anymore.

My hand closed around the phone.

Please don’t be him. Please don’t be him. Please…

I finally pulled it out. My eyes darted to the screen.

And I blinked.

It wasn’t Damian.

It was a number I hadn’t saved but I knew it.

I stared at it for a beat too long, frozen by something else entirely now. Confusion. Surprise. A new kind of tension crawling up my spine.

My father’s voice broke through the silence, low and mildly suspicious.

“Who is it?” he asked, his tone casual but I could tell it was anything but casual.

His eyes didn’t leave my face.

Not even for a second.

I swallowed hard and opened my mouth, the lie barely forming before my thoughts tripped over the truth again.

Because now I didn’t just have one secret I was trying to hide.

I had two.

And one of them had just come calling.

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER 133

CHAPTER 133ZARA POVI sat in the dimly lit corner of the club, sipping my wine, a small, satisfied smile curling on my lips as I quietly watched the activities around me. A number of the customers were moving about, laughing, chatting, oblivious to the games being played in the shadows. It was amusing, really. They had no idea.Audrey was gone now, storming off in her self-righteous anger.I could still feel the tension hanging in the air from our little confrontation. I took another slow sip from my glass, letting the rich taste of the wine slide down my throat as I considered the scene that had just unfolded. She thought she had the upper hand. She thought her little declarations of loyalty to Zain would throw me off. How amusing. After a few more moments of silently observing the room, I set my glass down gently on the table and reached into my bag, my fingers brushing against something cold and metallic. I pulled out the small, dark device, no bigger than the palm of my hand.

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER 132

CHAPTER 132(AUDREY POV)I stepped out of Elora's bar and into the crisp night air, my footsteps slow and hesitant as I made my way to the roadside.I paused, rubbing my arms, though it wasn’t the cold that bothered me.It was everything that had just happened inside there few minutes ago. What the hell had I been thinking? Emphasis? Leaving a perfectly good evening with Zain just to come all the way here to see her?His ex-girlfriend, of all people.I sighed, my breath visible in the cool night air. It was indeed a stupid idea, an idea only triggered by unnecessary jealousy. Why was I even jealous when I was the one getting married to him in a short while. Worse still, I had lied to Zain to get here. Told him it was just a quick work call…something so harmless, so normal, that even I almost believed it.And now, I would have to lie to him again when I got back.I would have to look him in the eyes, knowing I had snuck off to meet Zara without telling him. What was I even thinking?

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER  131

CHAPTER 131(ZAIN POV)I pulled up to the mansion, the gates looming ahead like sentinels, cold and imposing. The moment I honked once, they began to open without hesitation. No delays. The guards were at their posts, saluting as I passed through, but I didn’t acknowledge them.I couldn’t. My head wasn’t in the right place for pleasantries, not after the way the night had unfolded. My fingers tightened around the steering wheel as I navigated through the driveway, headlights cutting through the dim light of the evening.I couldn’t stop thinking about Audrey. She had left so abruptly, right in the middle of an evening I had planned for us, for us.I sighed, shaking my head as I tried to push away the frustration gnawing at me.The memory of that phone call lingered, though. A private number. Some vague voice. What had been so urgent that she couldn’t wait?I glanced at the empty seat beside me and my chest tightened. It wasn’t just the fact that she left, it was the way she left.Q

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER  130

CHAPTER 130(AUDREY POV)The dim lighting of Elora’s bar cast a soft amber glow over everything, but it did nothing to soothe my anxiety and rising nerves. I had told Zain it was just a quick work call, a lie so smooth I almost believed it myself. He trusted me, and the weight of that sat uncomfortably in my chest as I walked deeper into the bar.My eyes swept the room, and there she was. Zara sat in the far corner, shrouded in shadows, her body language radiating control. The body language of someone who felt she was born to hold sway over others without even trying. She wasn’t fidgeting. She wasn’t looking around nervously. No, the Zara lady was actually waiting for me.Her fingers drummed rhythmically on the edge of the table, her gaze already locked on me as if she was so sure I would come….just for the mere fact that she said so.Each step I took was slow, measured, deliberate, though my heart pounded loudly in my chest. Was it even right to be here? Should I have ignored

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER 129

CHAPTER 129(ZARA POV)I leaned back in my chair, the smooth, cold surface of the dining table beneath my fingertips. The room was quiet, but my mind was far from still.Too many thoughts were in my head, too many schemes. The burner phone sat beside me, screen black and silent, but soon it would play its part.I had found out exactly where Zain and Audrey were spending their evening. Some quaint looking park area downtown, the kind of place that pretended to be charming but screamed of pretence.Perfect for what I had in mind. My lips curled, a smirk tugging at the corner. It was time.I picked up the burner phone, feeling the cheap plastic cool in my palm, and dialled the number, switching my privacy settings to “hidden” before tapping the call button. The phone rang twice before a familiar voice filled the line, steady but curious.“Hello?”I steadied my breath, letting it catch in my throat for just a moment before I lowered my voice into a rough, unfamiliar rasp. “Hello sir you

  • Circle of Love   CHAPTER 128

CHAPTER 128(AUDREY POV)I opened my eyes slowly the next morning. I had just woken up from a really happy dream. For a moment, everything felt real.every detail was so vivid, almost as if I had truly stepped into another world.I had dreamt about my wedding day with Zain, and from what I saw it was like an event spun straight from heaven.Sunlight bathed the scene in gold, and everything felt perfect. Zain in a golden stood tall beside me, his eyes locked with mine in that way that always made my heart flutter. Our families surrounded us, familiar faces glowed with joy, their laughter echoing like music in the air.My beautiful mother was radiant as always, standing proudly by my side, her smile brighter than I had seen in years. It was as if the whole world had been draped in happiness. But it wasn’t just the beauty of the day that made me smile. No, it was actually Zara…Zara of all people. The very same woman who have been a thorn in my flesh for sometime now.In the dream,
