Nathaniel's Pov

The words hit the room like a bomb. My fists clenched so tightly my knuckles turned white.

“What's it to you?” Katherine snapped back, standing up from her chair to face him. Her voice was shaking with anger, and her hands curled into tight fists right on top of her legs. “It's none of your business what kind of woman I am! You're nothing but a doctor who's here to treat me. What kind of relationship do we have for you to question me like this?!”

Katherine's Pov “Evans was my boyfriend. We had met in high school and he was one of the popular guys. We started dating and he didn't really like me. I later found out that the reason he dated me was because of a bet he made with his friends to ask me out. We were young, and honestly, it was a toxic relationship. He was always possessive, always trying to control who I talked to and what I did. When I finally broke up with him to come to university, he didn't take it well. He accused me of abandoning him, of using him to get through high school and then dumping him when I found something better.” Back then in school, he had made me feel less of myself. Despite my character and personality now, it wasn't like that when I was in high school. My self esteem was pretty low and when a hot popular boy asked me out, I jumped at the offer despite knowing why he asked me out. So we were both using each other. “When I saw him at your parent’s house, I was shocked. I immediately recognise

What kind of relationship do we have for you to question me like this?!” “What kind of relationship do we have?” Evans repeated, taking a step closer to her, a dark, menacing look in his eyes. “Katherine, have you forgotten? Do you want me to say it right here in front of him?” “Are you crazy?!” Katherine yelled, her face flushing with a mix of anger and panic. She stood her ground, staring straight into Evans' eyes. “Don't think you know me, Evans. Because you don't! No matter what you think, don't you dare act like you're my friend. You're not!” The two of them just stood there, faci

Nathaniel's POV “I understand.” Arthur bowed slightly and left, leaving me to stand alone in the sitting room. I paced around for a bit, trying to calm myself and drop the anger that had surfaced in my chest earlier. A few minutes after Arthur left, the front doors opened and Dr. Evans walked into the house, his medical bag hanging from his hands. He looked around the sitting room, his eyes scanning everywhere. “Where's the patient?” he asked, shifting his bag to his other hand. “She'll be here soon, wait for her,” I said coldly, without even glancing at him. Dr. Evans was our family doctor, and to be completely honest, I never liked him. He had an arrogant, eccentric streak that always rubbed me the wrong way. However, I needed him right now for a specific reason. I turned my head and motioned to one of the housemaids who was walking nearby, “Go to my room and bring Katherine downstairs so her wound can be checked.” The maid nodded quickly and hurried up the stairs.

Nathaniel's Pov A wave of intense relief and satisfaction washed over me. The trap was set, and she had walked right into it, completely unaware that she was the only woman I had ever wanted in my life. “Good,” I said, my voice dropping to a lower, gentler register. I stood up from the pavement and extended my hand to her. She looked at my palm for a second before placing her cold hands in mine. I gripped it firmly, pulling her up from the sidewalk. The moment she stood on her feet, she winced sharply, her face contorting in pain as her hand flew straight to her left side. My eyes narrowed immediately. The warmth in my chest vanished, replaced by an instant, dangerous spike of anger. “Are you hurt? What’s wrong with your side?” “Oh this?” She looked down and shrugged, “It's nothing, just a little scratch.” “You…” “It's a little cold here and my legs are pretty numb.” She complained, staring at me. I knew that look, it was the look she gave whenever she didn't want to

Nathaniel's Pov “My girlfriend. I want you to be my girlfriend.” I watched her eyes widen in shock, her mouth flying open. She didn't expect this, and neither did I. When I saw her sitting at the roadside, looking so listless, I didn't know what to do. After she left, I found out what happened through an investigator. They had shown me the video of how she was humiliated in front of everyone, especially the man she was in love with; my brother. I felt like rushing over to wherever he was to strangle him alive. I knew that there was something going on between Katherine and Damon but I didn't want to check it myself because I could see the way she acted whenever I asked, but after yesterday night, I just couldn't wait anymore. I had to check. But what I didn't know is that she would be asked to leave her dorm room. Even though this woman has slept with me before, hearing her offer to do it again so that I could help her made my heart burn with anger. Ever since I saw

Katherine's Pov “Miss, aren't you alighting? We're here already.” The taxi driver's voice brought me out of my thoughts. I was about to ask him to take me back, anywhere other than here but from the look he was already giving me, I could tell that he was starting to get annoyed. Also, I couldn't waste any more money. So I just dropped and took my suitcases from the trunk. The taxi drove away, leaving me standing alone on the quiet, empty sidewalk with my suitcases. Why did I come here? Why did my brain choose this place out of all the places in the city? Nathaniel. The man who was confusing, arrogant, and yet… the only person who had shown me a strange kind of protection over the last few days. But I couldn't just show up at his house like a stray dog. He would probably mock me. Even with those thoughts, I brought out my phone, my hands shaking slightly. I opened my messaging app and scrolled down until I found Nathaniel’s name. I opened our message inbox and started to type

Katherine's Pov “Katherine… Kathy! Who are you talking about? Do you know who did this to you?” I could hear Brittany calling me but I just couldn't breathe. I couldn't answer her, I couldn't say anything. I tried to steady myself, but panic had already settled into me too deeply. My heartbea

Katherine's POV "You're joking. You have to be joking, Brittany." My voice shook so badly that I barely recognized it.
