“Shhh” Roman hushed. His hands still pressed against Tessa’s mouth. “Don’t move.”

Grayson reached for the closet door, his shadow falling over it.

“Tessa,” he said low this time, almost a growl. “I know you’re in here.”

His hand gripped the closet handle, a grin spreading across his face.

And then — he yanked the door open with brutal force.

His grin vanished in an instant.

The closet was empty—no Tessa.

Just a coat, draped neatly on a hook. Her coat. His breath caught as his eyes landed on

Two weeks at Lockwood & Co. had taught Tessa three things. The first was that the coffee on the fourteenth floor was better than the coffee on the twelfth, and no one would tell her why.The second was that Garrett Lockwood did not believe in the phrase good enough. He believed in do it again, sharper this time, and I want it by five. The third was that Tessa Quinn, after a year of believing she had nothing left to give, was actually good at this. She had started to learn the rhythm of the place. The morning stand-ups. The way the senior team argued without raising their voices. The unspoken hierarchy of who spoke first and who spoke last. She had made mistakes — a client name spelt wrong in a draft, a meeting time she'd written down incorrectly — but she had owned them, fixed them, and not made them twice.By the end of her second week, people had stopped calling her the new one. That morning, she sat in the boardroom with a notebook open in front of her and her heart beating a litt

Two weeks laterBy the end of her second week, Sabrina had stopped getting lost. She knew which elevator stuck on the third floor, which receptionist needed coffee before eight, and which chef would sulk if the breakfast numbers were wrong. She knew the shape of the hotel now, and she liked it more than she had expected to.She had also learned to cross the lobby at exactly the right pace whenever Roman was in it, which was neither too fast nor too slow, and always with a folder in her hand.Last week, she thought she saw Roman smile when a client commended her for her ‘exceptional service and diligent character’ right in front of him. But like every other smile with Roman, it was short-lived, gone like it never came. But what Sabrina didn't see was Roman's office that same evening. Her first weekly report sat open on his desk, and he had read it twice.Complaint response times had dropped by half. The breakfast numbers were accurate for the first time in months. Two staff members he

Tessa kicked off her heels at the door and let out a long breath.“She lives,” her father announced from the couch, his voice rough and slightly wheezy. “Daniel, come and see. She wasn’t fired on the first day.”“I heard,” Daniel called from the kitchen. “I had money on lunchtime.”“Very funny.” Tessa dropped her bag on the table and sank into the chair across from her father. Her feet ached, her head ached, and the Q4 brand strategy deck was still glowing in her mind like a bad dream. “I survived. Barely.”“Was the boss as bad as you said?” Her father asked.“He’s worse.” She laughed tiredly. “He watched me from his car while I was having coffee, Dad. And then asked if the coffee was worth wasting his time.”“That’s how Garrett is,” Daniel said, shrugging.“Like you even know who Garrett is.” Tessa rolled her eyes at him. Her father chuckled, which turned into a cough. Tessa leaned forward, but he waved her off.“I’m fine. Go on. Did you make any friends?”“Not really,” Tessa said,

Olivia led Sabrina down a corridor lined with polished marble and framed photographs of the hotel’s most prestigious events.Sabrina tried to take it all in—the high ceilings, the soft lighting, the staff moving with practised efficiency.Everything about Blackwood Hotels seemed designed to remind its guests that they were somewhere exceptional. And she was now part of it.Her mouth remained slightly open as she looked around. This was the first time she had seen the grand structure without worrying about meeting the feared Roman Blackwood or stumbling over her words in an interview. She had been hired. The job was hers. She had every reason to feel proud.Olivia continued beside her, speaking in a firm, measured voice.“This role isn’t something you must take for granted, Miss Mendel. It requires a lot of time, dedication, and patience. You need to understand the hotel’s standards, the staff structure, and, most importantly, meet Mr Blackwood’s expectations.”Sabrina barely heard a w

Tessa adjusted the strap of her work bag and glanced at her phone for the third time in two minutes. The address was right. She had checked it twice before leaving the apartment. She had checked it again on the train. And now she was standing outside Lockwood & Co., staring at the glass doors like they might suddenly move. Her phone buzzed. She smiled when she saw the name, then picked it up. "Hi, Dad.""I'm just checking that you actually found the place," Peter Quinn said, his voice warm but slightly wheezy. "You're not standing outside a random company hoping it's the right one?"Tessa laughed. "I'm standing outside the right building, Dad. I promise."Good. Because I already told Daniel you'd probably get lost on your first day.""Of course you did." Tessa shook her head. "I'll call you later. I have to go in soon.""Alright. Good luck, Teresa." He said."Thanks, Dad."She hung up and looked at her phone again.9:12 AM.She still had time. The email from HR said her orientation st

Roman stared at the screen, his jaw tight. His voice was dangerously low.“I don’t understand what you just said to me.” He frowned. “What do you mean you found her?”Davin swallowed. “We mean…we know where she is.”“And why the fuck would you know that?” Roman asked, voice slightly raised. “Come on Roman,” Davin said. “You were in a terrible place and we only wanted to help.”“Help?” He asked. “By having the woman who betrayed me then left without a trace come back to me, really?” He raised his brow.“In her defence…you chased her away,” Davin said.“In my defence, she cheated with my brother.” Roman scoffed. “But it seems like just because I chased after her at an airport, it means all is forgotten.”No one answered. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Roman rose from his chair.“Relax Roman,” Alec said. “You don’t need to get yourself worked up.”“I was doing just fine not knowing anything about Tessa or her whereabouts,” Roman said.“Were you though?” Alec asked.“Really Roman?”“Yes.
