Masuk“Is everything alright?” Benjamin asked.
“Ye..yeah,” she quickly replied, forcing a smile, as she picked up her phone and slipped it back into her bag. Emily's heart wouldn't stop racing. The words kept echoing in her head. “I'm coming for you both.” Who is coming for them? Why were they coming for them? Or was it Edward? No, this man wants nothing to do with her. But who could have sent that message? Different thoughts ran through her head, but she remained calm. As much as she tried to hide her fear, Benjamin knew something was off about her. He decided to make the hangout worthwhile to cheer her up. They spent the rest of the day with Benjamin, who took them to different fun places, successfully making Ethan like him more than he'd planned. This brightened Emily's mood, easing her fears. At the end of the day, Emily saw herself falling more for Benjamin than she'd intended. Seeing how well he bonded with her son made her like him more. Emily couldn't believe that a time in her life would come when she would be at peace with herself. Choosing to have Benjamin in her life was truly the best decision she had made in a while. ----- It was a Friday afternoon and they'd closed early from work. Benjamin had driven with Emily intending to spend the rest of the day with her and Ethan. Since Ethan was in school they decided to have some alone time before the toddler arrived. They stepped into the house together. “What do you wanna do?” Benjamin asked as he wrapped his arms around Emily's waist. “Not sure, do you have something in mind?” She questioned, glancing up at him. He reached for a stray strand of her luscious hair and tucked it behind her ear, staring into her eyes lovingly. “I'm content with just holding you, my love,” as he gently pulled her against him. He gently brushed his lips against her temples, making her blush. “You look so beautiful,” he whispered. Emily blushed harder. “So what would you like to do?” Benjamin asked, bringing her mind back to the conversation. “Are you good with cooking?” She wiggled her brows, and a smirk curved her lips. “Well, I would leave you to judge by putting up a simple dish,” “Let's make lunch together then,” “I'd love that, but I will have to change into something simple,” “Suit yourself, my love,” he said, releasing her from his hold. Emily moved towards her bedroom to change. A few minutes later, she returned to see Benjamin without his suit jacket, and his dress shirt rolled up ready to hit the Kitchen. She grabbed his arm and led him to the kitchen, as they both wore Aprons. As soon as they both decided on what to make for lunch, they began, with Emily asking him to chop the veggies. “You fit so well into my kitchen,” she complimented him, giggling. “Meaning?” He quirked his brow in question. She bobbed her head in response, making him chuckle. Her musical laughter still rings in the kitchen. “Teach me how to be your personal chef,” he winked at her, leaning over, as he quickly stole a kiss from her. Emily didn't expect it, still stunned by his actions. Her eyes locked on his, as she felt her heart leaping inside her. “We have a meal to prepare, sweetheart,” he spoke after a while breaking their trance. “Yeah?” She asked with an innocent expression etched on her face. Then she threw an egg at him that broke on his chest. That slimy liquid is running on his white shirt. “Oops!” She blurted out, turning on her heels to escape Benjamin. Benjamin immediately caught her, wrapping an arm around her waist, as he pinned her to the nearest wall. He grabbed a few eggs from the crate and broke them on her face. Emily let out a string of giggles, as she struggled to get free of his grasp. “Now, we are even,” he spat, with his eyes glinting and a smile on his face. Emily raised her hands in surrender. Benjamin grabbed her hands, pinning them above her, just to stare into her grey orbs that were shining with so much happiness and filled with joy. Emily's heart raced wildly, the more they leaned into each other subconsciously, the more it raced. Deep down, she knew something she wasn't ready for was coming. She's been so scared of truly going all in with Benjamin but now, she doesn't want to hold back anymore. Benjamin rested his forehead against hers, still staring into her eyes, with his warm breath fanning her nicely shaped lips. Just when she expected him to kiss her, he said, “Can I kiss you?” Emily closed the distance between them by sealing her lips to his in a soft passionate kiss. As quickly as their lips had met, they parted, with Emily heaving. It felt as though she'd just crossed a hurdle. “Are we still cooking?” She asked quickly, not wanting things to become awkward as a result of her, suddenly ending the kiss. He gave her a tight hug, rubbing her back. “We don't have to rush things, my love, we'll get there,” he whispered into her ear. “Thank you,” she murmured. “Come on, let's get on with lunch preparation, don't forget we still have to pick Ethan up from school,” Emily couldn't help but smile at the fact that he still recalled Ethan's closing hour. Putting the kiss aside, they worked together to make lunch in about an hour. Emily's eyes darted to the fancy wall clock, as they stepped into the living room “Oh my God, we are late. I just hope he isn't worried already,” Emily Lamented. “The faster we get out of here the quicker we'll get to him,” “Let me quickly get my purse,” Emily said. The moment she turned on her heels, the doorbell rang. A frown of displeasure etched on her face, she wondered who it was that had come to delay them. “Are you expecting anyone?” “No…” The words left her mouth as she stepped towards the door, but as soon as she opened it, she wasn't ready for the sight that greeted her. Her eyes landed on a familiar dark brown orb that froze her in her tracks on the spot. Her lips parted in shock. “Mommy, Daddy is back, he brought me home from school.” Ethan's excited voice broke through her trance, causing her gaze to fall on where the toddler and her worst nightmare hands were clutched together.Emily was lost in her computer, trying to sort out some documents Edward had forwarded to her, when a knock sounded on the door.Tap. Tap. Tap.“Come in,” she called. The door opened, revealing Amanda once again.“Edward mentioned you needed some guidance, so I’m here for you,” Amanda stated before settling into one of the seats opposite Emily.“It’s nothing serious. I feel strange to be back here.”Amanda could see her physically struggling with herself and her choice of words. She decided not to make her feel uncomfortable by avoiding any topic she wasn't ready to talk about.“It’s fine, Emily. I completely understand you. But you should know it’s no trouble. You’ll be welcomed here, and I’m glad to have you back.”Emily’s smile returned as she heard the sincerity in the woman’s voice. During her stay with Edward, while they were under their contract, she had the opportunity to associate with Amanda a few times and had secretly grown fond of her. She was kind and treated Edward like
Emily stared at herself in the mirror, sliding her sweaty palms down the front of her cream tailored blazer to smooth the crease that had formed on it. Her silk blouse sat neatly beneath it, while her high-waisted, wide-leg trousers fell perfectly over her pointed-toe heels. It was going to be her first day as Edward’s assistant, and despite everything she had told herself, she wasn’t ready. She had no idea how it would feel to walk back into a place that was part of her story with Edward.Would the employees who had been there five years ago remember her? Would they question her sudden return? And would they immediately connect her presence to Edward?A deep sigh escaped her lips. There was no point dwelling on questions she couldn't answer. She had no choice but to show up, do her job, and get used to her new position. She reached for her handbag from the sofa just as Edward stepped into the room.“Baby, are you ready?” he asked, but the moment his eyes landed on her, a slow smile s
“Oh my God, Benjamin…”A surprised expression claimed their faces as they proceeded to share a warm embrace before pulling away.“It’s been a while,” she said, a bright smile stretching her red-stained lips.“I could say the same for you,” he responded, finally releasing her shoulders as he stared at the woman who had broken his heart a few years ago, just because she realized he couldn't give her the life she wanted.Benjamin had met Natasha a few years back in Scotland, and he’d fallen in love with her almost immediately. Not just her enchanting beauty but her intelligence and personality. Luckily for him, she’d also felt the same way about him. Their relationship had evolved from mere friends to lovers, and they were now so close. At one point, he’d thought she was his soulmate, but not until his entire life took a turn and she quickly switched up on him, with the guise of needing a break from their relationship. At first, he’d believed she was under some stress from her schoolwor
Days had passed since Emily's sudden breakup with Benjamin, leaving him miserable and heartbroken. He’d never felt so alone and disconnected from the rest of the world, knowing Emily was gone, not just from Texas but from his life.It wasn’t the first time he’d ended a relationship with a woman, but it was the first time someone he loved dearly had truly hurt him, after he struggled to heal from what his ex-girlfriend had done to him a few years ago.Although all Benjamin wanted to do was sit at home and mourn his broken heart, he couldn't do that because it wasn’t going to pay his bills. He had to show up at work and try to focus for the few hours he’d be there, maybe even drown his sorrow in excess work. His plan had been working well until their boss informed them of the success of their partnership deal with one of the biggest companies in the business world. At first, it sounded like an opening to success as it meant their company would grow, attract more business opportunities,
Emily stood on the doormat of Benjamin’s home, her hands tucked into the pockets of her jacket as she stared at the door. Her heart was beating wildly, and for a moment, she considered turning around and walking away. She knew the moment she knocked on that door would be the end of whatever she had with Benjamin. She was about to throw away everything they had shared—the good memories, the bad ones, and all the times Benjamin had put her feelings before his own and given her the love she had always craved. But it still wasn't enough. The painful truth hit her as she searched her heart for one more reason to hold on. She found nothing. All she could think about was how to make things right and stop hurting him.For the past few days, she had replayed the incident at Edward’s home over and over again. Benjamin had shown up unexpectedly, and although his words had hurt her, she couldn't blame him for reacting the way he did.She had broken his trust, and she couldn't continue pretending
It was a Friday afternoon when Emily sat in the back of a cab heading toward her apartment in Texas. She had arrived from the airport that morning to pack her belongings and Ethan’s before leaving the city. After Edward’s confession, she had been given some space to think. She had spent those days thinking about her life, especially Benjamin. The truth was painful. She had been unfair.Benjamin had loved her, accepted Ethan, and given her the kind of peace she had once believed she would never find. Yet she had dragged him into a battle he never asked for. Edward was Ethan’s father, and whether she liked it or not, he would remain in their lives. She could not keep asking Benjamin to fight her battles. If she were in his position, she knew she would have walked away too.So, she had made a decision to let Benjamin go.It hurt more than she wanted to admit, but she believed it was the only way to give him the chance to find the happiness he deserved. As for Ethan, she had decided to st
A humorless laugh erupted from Edward's lips as he stared at her in wonder. Wasn't she full of surprises? Does she think she could use the child as a leverage to get back into his life? Honestly, he'd loved that little girl dearly, but the fact that he had abandoned his own blood for years, just
Emily woke up the next morning feeling like she hadn’t slept at all. The weight of Ethan’s words still clung to her, heavy and unsettling. Even as she got ready for work, as she brushed her hair and slipped into her outfit, her mind kept replaying his innocent voice. I like my daddy more. She shu
“Yes Benjamin, I have no problem accepting you but as a single mom my son's interest comes first.” Benjamin smiled as he clasped her hand, surprising her more. “You're a good mother, Emily, I'm sure your son is lucky to have you in his life,” Tears pricked her eyes at his compliment, but she
Emily's hands flopped, losing grip of the key she held. Her mouth parted to answer but nothing came out. “All my friends in school have dads, don't I have a dad?” His innocent words struck Emily's heart like she'd been stabbed with a sharp knife. “Oh, my baby,” she wrapped her right arm around
