LOGINAdrian’s POV:
Last night, I was at Miracle Club, with a mask and goggles covering my face.
While I was sipping on a cocktail, the waitress on the other side of the table kept asking if I had any special plans for the night.
I ignored her and waited until one man came and sat next to me.
He was not as tall as me. Not as rich or handsome, either.
But he had somehow captured the heart of the girl I had longed for.
He was Ryan Miller.
He saw the cocktail glasses in front of me and said, “Can I take one?”
I nodded.
He finished it one go and ticked his tongue a few times. “Tomorrow is going to be a big day in my life.”
“Why?” I calmly asked, taking a sip of alcohol.
“I’m going to get a promotion and become the vice manager of the company,” he smiled. “My salary is going to go from 70K to 115K. Can you imagine that?”
“That’s a big jump.”
“It wasn’t easy. I had to sleep with my boss’ wife whenever she wanted,” he responded.
I was surprised enough that I wasn't able to swallow the wine for a few seconds. “I don’t get it. How would you get a promotion if you slept with your boss’ wife? Shouldn’t it be the opposite?”
“No, my boss is the manager, but his wife is the CEO of the company,” Ryan added.
“Oh…” I put the pieces together. “Are you planning on marrying your boss’ wife then?”
Ryan seemed surprised for a second. “You…” he looked at me for a good few seconds. “How did you figure out my intentions?”
I raised my eyebrows and said, “It was quite predictable to me, though.”
“Hahaha,” he laughed and jovially slapped my shoulder once. “Actually, I have a girlfriend. She’s a real beauty. I was planning on marrying her, but now I see a brighter future with my boss’ wife.”
“Mm… I wouldn’t trust a promiscuous woman if I were you,” I warned him.
“Who isn’t promiscuous these days?”
“This girlfriend you talked about…” I looked at him, “do you think she’s promiscuous, too?”
“Of course. She acts all innocent, honest and hardworking, but I don’t think she’s a virgin,” Ryan snorted. “And I bet that she slept with someone in the past year or so that I came to know her.”
“What makes you say that?”
“C’mon, it’s impossible for anyone to not fuck her boyfriend for an entire year if she wasn’t doing it with someone else. She must be relieving her stress somehow. That’s what boyfriends are for, right?”
He expectantly looked at me, probably hoping I’d nod.
I took out a couple hundred dollar bills, put them on the table and walked away.
“You haven’t answered me,” Ryan asked.
“You already seem to know everything, so my answer wouldn’t change anything,” I said and left the bar.
Back to the present.
“Give me a chance… Elena,” I asked, trying my best to not sound hesitant.
“A-A chance?” she paused.
I could see her eyes and tell that the memories of the past were probably playing in her mind right now.
‘“How did you find me?” she added. “Were you following me?”
“No, but I think you did the right thing by breaking up with your boyfriend,” I said. “Yesterday, I met him in a bar, and he talked about how he was sleeping around with his boss’ wife and how marrying her would change his life.”
Elena covered her mouth in shock.
“He was only after your body,” I voiced my mind. “He was probably never in love with you.”
Her expression changed. Anger suddenly filled her eyes.
“My bad. I spoke too much,” I softly said, “but… surely, he’s an opportunistic fellow. And I’m glad you found out his true side.”
I saw her throat tightening. “I don’t need help.”
“Maybe,” I stated softly, “you don’t, but I couldn’t just watch and do nothing.”
She crossed her arms, trying to hold herself together, as though the walls of the alley were narrowing and pressing on her.
Then she said, “Did my father send you?”
“No,” I calmly responded with certainty. “He doesn’t know I’m here,” I added after a pause. “This is my decision.”
My words seemed to unsettle her more than if I had admitted the truth.
“Why?” she raised her voice a little, almost demanding an answer. “Why now? After all these years…”
“I couldn’t forget you,” I said, to which her lips pressed together.
“I’m not going back home.”
“I will give you home,” I responded quickly.
Her eyes briefly froze.
“I don’t need your help. I can live on my own,” she blurted with mild annoyance.
“At least let my bodyguard Jericho stay with you,” I told her.
“Huh? I don’t need a babysitter.”
“You are mistaking protection for control,” I responded.
“My dad forced me to marry a playboy for his own benefit, but he said it was for my protection,” she retorted. “You sound just like him. You want to monitor me with the help of your bodyguard and get closer to me, right? Isn’t that your plan?”
I took in a deep breath, acting unhurt by her words. “The last thing I want for my woman, for you, to feel bad because of me. So many women approach me every day, but I’m here now… standing before you in this alley that has a suffocating stench of pastries and cinnamon. I’m not pressuring you to go back to your home or to hold my hand immediately. I will wait for you… again… if that’s what you want.”
And I saw her eyes wavering.
In Salem city.Ryan and Vivian came to meet Brandon Conreid at a private cafe, where only those with the membership were allowed.A cup of coffee cost 110 dollars here, whereas a sandwich cost close to 200 dollars. The prices felt excessive even for Vivian. “So you want me to compete with the Claimer family…” Brandon faintly smiled. “I’ve already been doing that for a while now.”“We will help you at the low level, sir,” Vivian said. “We have connections at the low level.”“You really think your company can benefit me?” Brandon put forward a file. “Words are worthless. Results are the only honest metric.”Vivian and Ryan checked the file.“That’s a property I couldn’t buy even with all the connections I had,” Brandon said. “That small shop is right in front of a giant shopping mall that I own. I haven’t been able to move him no matter how much money I offered. One of his sons works in the media, so if I go after him, I’ld earn bad fame. I’ll give you three, no, five days. Show me wha
Iva just finished her office work and was leaving. But her secretary said, “Ma’am, you need to watch this.”Iva saw an advertisement for chocolate. “Elena?” she slightly frowned. “Did Adrian create a chocolate company without my knowledge?”She immediately dialed up Steward Henry.“I need an explanation of Elena chocolate,” she said.“Ma’am, Young Master didn’t want me to tell you about this,” Henry spoke nervously. “He did not name the company until recently, so I didn’t know he was planning on dedicating the company to his fiancee.”“How much has he spent on the company so far?”“About 2 million.”“Only 2 million?” Iva was surprised. “For how long has he been doing this?”“For two to three years.”“That long? And yet he spent only two million?”“Yes, ma’am, he’s been very careful during the product development phase, but…” Henry’s voice grew thin, “I think he’s spending much more on advertising.”“What’s your estimate?”“He’s approaching celebs for promotion, and he’s even calling S
The media started doing their best to repair the damages that were done on three big families in the last few days.Firstly, the news shown regarding the hospitals owned by the Paine family was proven to the baseless and false. Even the police officers confirmed it through press confidence. Then, the marriage between Sia Paine and Gregg Huefner was announced once again. This, however, did not boost the stocks of their companies as much because their wedding already failed once.At the same time, the deals made between Gareth and Paul were kept out of the limelight, yet the stocks of their companies began to rise in respective areas. For a couple of days, the world around these three families had quieted down.To the outsiders, it seemed like peace returned once again. But both the Huefner and Paine family heads were secretly planning on hurting the Claimer family.Gregg was also looking for his fiancee’s sister even though his own wedding was at hand.Meanwhile, Adrian was also busy.
“Are we going to live in this estate after marriage? Or are we going to live separately?”Elena’s question froze Adrian’s expression for more than a moment. It took him a few seconds just to process her words. And nothing he deduced was to his liking. He had extensively remodeled this estate for her to comfortably live here, yet Elena did not seem all that interested in living here. What went wrong? Why did she not want to live here? The answer to that question was also found in the last few words that had come out of her mouth: Are we going to live separately?Does she not want to live with his family members in this estate? While his mother was definitely troubling Elena, he was under the impression that things will all be sorted sooner or later.“Elena, is there something you don’t like about being here?” Adrian softly asked, despite how anxious he felt in his heart. “We went through a rough patch of staying outside. We saw how dangerous it was, and we came back home, so why do you
After the misunderstanding, Adrian wanted to improve Elena’s mood, so he took her back into the storage building. He took her to the second floor, where every item was made of precious metals.“Choose the ones you want to wear for our wedding,” he said, showing a hall full of hundreds of jewelry items displayed in glass boxes. There were chains, bracelets, waist belts, anklets, rings, earrings, noserings, and so many kinds of fashion items Elena had never seen before.“Is it alright for me to wear these?” Elena hesitantly asked.“You’re going to become a Claimer,” Adrian calmly replied. “So it is your duty to wear them on important occasions.”“Mm…” Elena faintly smiled. They weren’t alone.Lilian, Iva and the maids were also there, observing some other jewelry.Iva was actually spying on what Elena and Adrian were doing, whereas Lilian was recording a video to show-off to her friends later on.Iva saw that. She took Lilian’s mobile and deleted the video. “Don’t ever record anything i
All the people in the estate, including the members of the Claimer household were gathered at the storage building on the west.Gareth and Lilian weren’t told the reason, so they were eager to leave. But then Iva told Gareth, “Your mother’s tea cup was broken.”“What?” Gareth’s eyes widened. “You mean that… flower patterned one?”Iva nodded twice.“How did it happen?” Gareth raised his voice. “No, who broke it? Was it the maids?”“No, it was Elena,” Iva looked at her.“It wasn’t me, Uncle,” Elena quickly responded.Just then, Adrian came out of the building with the broken pieces all neatly arranged on a wooden plank.“Elena isn’t the one who broke the cup, Dad,” Adrian made a quick explanation. “It’s quite obvious that this cup was broken before, even though Mom doesn’t want to admit it.”Iva snorted but said nothing.“No9w the real question is…” Adrian looked at everyone there, except Elena. “Who actually broke this tea cup?”The maids and butlers lowered their heads.“If they come
