“What exactly did he release?” Myla asked as a luxury, armoured SUV screeched to a halt in front of them.

As soon as they got in, their driver, Steve, punched the gas pedal without waiting for a command, and they surged out of the underground parking space.

Flashbulbs exploded against the dark glass, and muffled, frantic questions echoed through the night air the moment the reporters outside caught a glimpse of the car, but the driver did not slow down.

“What exactly did he release?” Myla asked as a luxury, armoured SUV screeched to a halt in front of them.As soon as they got in, their driver, Steve, punched the gas pedal without waiting for a command, and they surged out of the underground parking space.Flashbulbs exploded against the dark glass, and muffled, frantic questions echoed through the night air the moment the reporters outside caught a glimpse of the car, but the driver did not slow down.Myla let out a sigh of relief, leaning against the leather seat when they successfully merged into traffic. Then she turned to Beck. “Now that’s over,” she muttered. “What exactly did he give them?”Hayden nodded. “Yeah, with all the resources we have, we couldn’t get our hands on the file. How did he?”Beck shrugged, rubbing his temple tiredly. “I don’t know. I haven’t heard the news yet. I was only told that the story broke and we needed to get to the chopper as soon as possible.”Hayden leaned over, reached through the front seat,

The room erupted into thunderous applause. In the front row where he was seated, Hayden leapt to his feet, grinning widely. “Yes!” He screamed at the top of his lungs, clapping profusely. “That is my wife! That is my girl!”Everyone laughed at his antics. The announcer let out a warm laugh into the microphone. “Well, it is certainly wonderful to see such a supportive husband in the crowd. He looks more excited than the winner herself!”Myla walked to the center podium, her eyes watering as she accepted the heavy glass trophy. She adjusted the microphone, taking a deep breath as she looked out at the sea of faces.“Thank you so much,” she said, her voice steady and full of rich emotion. “The truth is, I genuinely don’t think I deserve this.” She looked at the award for a couple of seconds before continuing. “Wow, it's heavier than I imagined.”The crowd laughed. She glanced at the other nominees. “I stand here tonight deeply humbled. Incredible women are standing beside me, but you

Ten minutes later, Myla and Hayden were strapped into the leather seats of their helicopter, the massive blades whirring loudly as they lifted off the estate grounds. Beck sat in front with the pilot while two members of their primary security detail sat in the seats in front of them. As the city lights began to blur beneath them, Myla’s fingers tightened around Hayden’s hand. A thick, nervous anxiety began to flutter in her stomach.Hayden noticed instantly. He lifted her hand and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to her knuckles. “Do not be anxious, baby," he said, giving her a wink. “No matter what happens on that stage tonight, even if you do not take the trophy home, you will always be our woman of the century.”Myla let out a giggle, her anxiety easing. “Oh, please,” she said, tapping his chest playfully. “Don’t be so incredibly cliched, Hayden. That is so cringe.”Hayden laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Well, what can I say?” He drawled, giving her a dramatic wink.

“Careful with the curls.” Myla’s hair stylist hissed, tapping her apprentice's hand away. “No, no, not that pin. Use the diamond-crusted one Mr Beck gifted her this morning.”Myla sat in front of a vanity mirror while three different teams worked on her simultaneously.Tonight was the Woman of the Year gala, and the house had been in complete chaos since sunrise, with her preparation team taking over a suite on the second floor. Even the soft music playing over the speakers in the background couldn’t cover the noise. “Sorry, ma’am, can you just tilt your head back a little bit?” her stylist whispered, holding up a simple but elegant ruby necklace. “You are so lucky,” she continued as she clasped the necklace around her neck and started wearing the matching earrings for her. “The men in your life seem to love seeing you covered in expensive jewels.”Everyone in the room immediately nodded or hummed in agreement. “You look absolutely radiant, Mrs. Oakley,” the head makeup artist prai

Before either of the men could answer, Jared turned on his heel, storming toward the door again.Myla rushed forward and planted her body directly in front of the door, blocking his path. She looked up at him, her eyes wide with soft, desperate determination.“Baby, look at me,” she pleaded, her voice shaking as she reached up to cup his stubbled jaw. “Please, just look at me.”Slowly, his gaze lifted. The pain she saw there shattered her heart.“You are a good man. You had survived countless missions where people died, where you had to make impossible tactical choices.” She whispered. “If a mistake was made in the heat of batt

She set her fork down, her appetite completely gone. “He thinks he is a monster now.” She muttered, her eyes burning. “He thinks if he looks at us, he will see the judgment in our eyes.” She let out a heavy sigh. “What do we do?”Hayden reached across the table, taking her hand and squeezing it tightly. “Don’t think too deeply about his actions, baby.” He said, his voice soft. “Jay has always been the guy who thinks he has to fix every single thing on his own, without any external interference.”“Trust me,” Beck added. “He is far worse than Hay when it comes to locking his problems in a box.”“But this is not the right way to handle a trauma of this magnitude,” Myla said, her voice breaking slightly. “Even if he was the one who gave that command, he needs to talk to us. He was a young soldier in the heat of a chaotic battle. Split-second decisions have to be made during a war. It does not make him an evil man.”Beck shook his head, his eyes staring blankly at the dining table. “There’
