Kaelan closed the door behind him.

The council room felt colder than usual. The stone walls seemed to hold the chill of the mountain. Lucien stood near the long table with his hands behind his back. Seraphine stood a few steps away. Her posture was straight and calm. She did not look nervous. She looked decided.

The doors to the council room stood open.Celeste stopped at the threshold. The air that came out of the chamber was colder than the corridor behind them. The red light from the sky outside did not reach this deep into the packhouse. The only light came from the floor. The markings were fully awake.Every carved line across the black stone floor glowed a deep red. The light ran under the long table, climbed the base of the raised platform, and pulsed slowly, like a heartbeat. The air above the platform shimmered.Seraphine stood beside her, breathing

Seraphine staggered first. Her boots scraped against stone. The air that filled her lungs was no longer the thin, strange air of the realm Lyssara had pulled them into. It smelled of smoke and old wood .Celeste was on her knees beside her, one hand pressed to the floor, silver hair still faintly glowing at the ends. Both of them were breathing hard. Neither of them spoke for several long seconds.Kaelan was already there. His injured shoulder was still bandaged from the attack. Blood had soaked through the cloth in a dark circle. His face was pale with pain and something sharper.

Before anyone could say another word, the explosion came.It was not close enough to throw them to the ground, but the sound was hard and deep. It rolled through the stone under their feet. Dust fell from the high edges of the walls. Somewhere below the main courtyard people began to shout.Kaelan moved at once.He crossed the space between them and put himself in front of Celeste and Seraphine, one arm held slightly out as if to keep them back from the open rail. His injured shoulder made the movement tight, but he did not slow.“Stay behind me,” he

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED SIXTEEN: UNPLEASANT REUNION

The moment Celeste saw him clearly, her body moved before her mind finished the thought. She pushed away from the balcony rail and turned back into the corridor, skirts gathering in her hands as she walked fast and then faster. The sounds of the festival courtyard, the sudden hush, the shift of guards, Kaelan’s voice giving orders followed her only for a few steps before the stone walls dulled them. She needed distance. She needed a closed door and a single clear breath that did not contain the sight of Thorne Voss standing on Ravencrest’s steps as if the past had simply walked up and demanded to be let in.When kaelan saw her he yelled. “Celeste.”

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED FIFTEEN: FESTIVAL

The main day of the festival arrived.Kaelan stood on the upper balcony overlooking the central courtyard while the final banners were secured and the great gates of Ravencrest opened fully for the first time in years. Music already drifted up from the lower terraces. The smell of roasting meat, sweet wine, and crushed pine carried on the cold mountain air. Guests moved in formal clusters through the outer yards. Asheville’s green and silver, smaller neutral packs in their own colors, traders and minor lords who had come to be seen near the strongest territory in the region. His left shoulder burned with every movement. The wound from the stable-hand’s knife was still painful beneath the bandage. Maera had warned him against full training

They buried Vira at the base of the ridge just before full dark. There was no proper ceremony. No elder to speak the old words. No time to dig a deep grave. The ground was hard and rocky, and the wolves who still followed him worked in silence with whatever tools they had. When the last of the earth was pushed over her, the small mound looked too shallow to hold everything she had been.Thorne stood at the edge of the tgrave and stared at it.The anger in him had gone past just anger. It sat cold and heavy behind his ribs. Vira was dead because of a mistake made on the road to Ravencrest. Because they had moved too far, too fast, with too little knowledge. Bec

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER FOUR: Where Betrayal Burns.

Celeste woke to the smell of smoke. The smoke was not the soft one that circulated the cottage hearth. This was thick, black, and acrid, like metal burning. Celeste shot up, her instincts kicking in before her brain did. She crossed to the window. The sky was red.It wasn't dawn. This was a fierce

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER THREE: The Boy With Amber Eyes.

Moonfall was nothing like she expected.Celeste had imagined something small. A quiet gathering of wolves who didn’t belong anywhere, standing around scattered fires and pretending not to notice each other.Something easy to disappear into. She was wrong. The valley was enormous. Torches lined eve

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER TWO: The Gathering.

Celeste had barely stepped out into the cool corridor when the pack bell rang . The sound cut through the night like a blade. Not the frantic, uneven toll of danger. Not the urgent call that sent warriors running toward the gates. This one was slower and formal.Celeste stopped where she was, the e

  • Claimed by the Ruthless Alpha   CHAPTER ONE: Unopened Door

Celeste paused outside Thorne’s study, the tray in her hands trembling slightly. Steam curled gently from the teapot, carrying the calm scent of chamomile and honey but beneath it a scent slipped through the closed door, sweet, thick and unfamiliar. Not hers. Not anything from Silvermere.Another
