ERO’S POV

“You can’t trust her,” I said to my brother once we stepped out of Ira’s confinement. “She’s hiding something.”

“She is our mate,” Dexter said with a grit in his tone. “I felt her essence. Whatever it is she is hiding cannot be anything bad.”

He turned to me when we entered the throne room. “She shouldn’t be locked up like a prisoner, Ero.” His tone held a deep resentment. “Release her.”

I stared at my brother, trying to figure out his headspace. Dexter was my twin brother. We shared the same womb, but I was a few minutes older than him.

“I won’t.” My words were clear and hard-cutting. My brother and I rarely had disagreements; we were always in tune.

He was my fraternal twin, brother, partner, and ally. It was us against everything else, and I rarely said no to him. But not this time. It was too risky.

“Then I will do it myself,” Dexter said, staring me in the eyes. My wolf twitched at the disrespect.

Although Dexter was my brother, I was his king. I was a few minutes older, but older nonetheless. The air around me grew hot as I tried to rein in my anger.

“You will do no such thing,” I said in a low growl. “It’s bad enough that you killed some of our guards at the borders because of her.”

“I still have to answer to the Elder’s council because of your actions, and I’m barely forty-eight hours into my coronation.”

I watched a wry smile grow on my brother’s face. “They hurt my mate,” he stated, eyes growing distant. “They deserved the cruelest possible death.”

Dexter had no remorse for what he did. For the first time ever, I hated that one-track mind of his. “They are our subjects,” I gritted. “We took an oath to protect them.”

“That’s where you’re wrong, brother,” he stated with a frown, walking towards me. “You took an oath to protect them. Not me. You are their king, not I.”

“You choose to lick the ass of the Elder’s council, I choose not to.” He stepped further, aggravating me with his words. “And now, you choose to protect the ones who hurt our mate, while I choose to protect our mate.”

“I don’t care what you choose to do, but I will not stand idly and watch my mate get hurt or treated like a prisoner, Ero.” Dexter stood in front of me with a threatening stance. “And that includes you.”

For the next few seconds, I stood toe to toe with my brother, eyes flaring, and we sized each other threateningly. “How can you be so blind to the fact she is a faux?” I asked in a growl.

“Why are you so convinced she is a faux?” Dexter growled back, puffing up. I could sense his Alpha wolf surge forward.

“Simple logic,” I retorted, blood boiling with anger. “He who has nothing to hide, hides nothing.”

“Screw logic,” he snapped. “Ira is my mate, and I have a responsibility to protect her. I will not stand for her being locked up. Set her free.”

A small chuckle left my lips at his possessive declaration. “You’ve never quite learned to share, little brother,” I said, knowing he hated that term. “Ira isn’t just your mate. You will do well to remember that.”

“It doesn’t seem like it to me,” he muttered. “It looks to me that you will do anything to prove the fact she is just like Kiara.”

My heart hardened at his words.

“I heard you back then, brother,” Dexter snarled. “Weak, wolfless, traitor,” he listed, his voice getting angrier by the second. “All of the adjectives we’d use to describe—”

“Do not say her name,” I said in a grave tone, struggling to contain the power that threatened to set off within me.

Dexter knew better than to poke holes at this instant. He took a deep breath and said, “Release Ira.”

“Not until I am certain she is not a danger to me and the people,” I responded. “And that’s final,” I said in my Alpha tone.

Dexter stared me in the eye. I could see his anger grow as the seconds passed. “How long?” he asked, and I cocked my brow.

“How long do you plan to keep her in there?”

I stayed for a moment, as I’d never truly thought about it.

“Until I am certain she is who she claims to be.”

“That is not a timeline,” Dexter growled, but I didn’t care.

“Given the fact that you massacred a dozen warriors at the borders, I will be a bit busy cleaning up your mess with the council,” I tutted, knowing it would aggravate him. “Unlike you, I have to be accountable.”

“Which means I am tasked with the duty of covering your tracks once again.” I turned my back to him. “Taking care of your mess, addressing the Elders’ council, and discharging my kingly duties will take a substantial amount of time.”

“So maybe she’ll be cleared in a month or two,” I said in response to his question. “Surely you’d understand.”

“One week,” Dexter said without blinking. “You have one week to get your findings done.”

My anger spiked at his tone. “Or what, little brother?” I mused, containing the inferno within me. “You couldn’t beat me in a fight even if you tried.” I placed my hand on his shoulder and pressed hard. “Not to mention,” my Alpha voice cut through the air, “I am your king.”

I let my Alpha wolf break through the surface, and the air around us grew warm. My eyes held traces of red lines, indicating the presence of my wolf.

Dexter remained rooted in his spot, never backing away from a fight. Instead, he took a few steps away, placing some space between us as he spoke.

“I have no problem eradicating the Elder’s council if it lessens the burden,” Dexter said, a poorly hidden threat. “One week,” he said, “See you around, brother.”

IRA"What's going on here?" I asked, stepping down the stairs in my nightdress.Lucius and Dexter sat in the living room, Dexter firmly staring at Lucius while he sipped his glass of juice."You're awake." Lucius said with a smile that warmed my insides, arriving at my side within a millisecond and grabbing my lips in a morning kiss."Hey." I said, trying to catch my breath. "Where did you go?""Morning run." Dexter said, climbing the stairs with his open shirt that showed off his rock-hard abs and coming right in for a kiss that swept me off my feet."Did you have a good night?" He asked after breaking the kiss, and I nodded absentmindedly, still quite in a daze."Of course she did." Lucius said with a knowing smirk on his face, obviously in a good mood."Great." Dexter muttered, mildly irritated. "I don't need you giving me those looks, man.""What look?" Lucius prompted with a smirk plastered on his lips."The 'I just fucked her' look." Dexter said, turning to me with a frown. "I h

DEXTER"Take care of her." My brother said while we stood on the borders of the Vampire territory.I nodded, jaws tight as I gave him my word. "I will always protect her."Eros stared me in the eyes, and for the first time in a long while, I saw a semblance of the brother I loved and grew up with. The brother who would do anything to protect our family and the bond we shared. The brother before Kiara and our egos came along."I trust you," He said, not a trace of doubt in his eyes. "If there is anyone who I trust the most in the world, it's you."I swallowed, not expecting his words or the sincerity woven through them."Thank you." I said after a while, throat constricting. "I appreciate that."I didn't realize how much I needed to hear the words until he said it. The air around us thickened, and he spoke after a few beats."I should thank you." He muttered. "For protecting her all this while." He drew a sharp breath. "For defying me and placing her first.""For being the mate I could

IRALucius led me to the garden after our little breakfast tiff. I could tell he was upset and was trying his best to keep up a good mood because of me."Will you ever get along with them?" I asked as we walked around the garden, taking in some fresh air."I think we get along just fine." He replied, and I rolled my eyes."Yeah right." I muttered, sarcasm in my tone.Lucius stopped in his stride, facing me with a smile. "While I absolutely adore you, I'd hate to lie to you, my love."I blinked. "What?"Lucius took a deep breath. "I am a vampire." He started. "Vampires and werewolves have always been sworn enemies.""It is a miracle we see eye to eye without killing each other. The only reason we are having a semblance of peace and tolerance is because of you."I shook my head, refusing to believe that there was nothing more to be done. "I agree that for the last couple decades both sides lived as sworn enemies.""But if there is anything we can learn from the last few weeks, it's that

IRAI sat in the dining room with my mates, Elder Nightingale and Lydia.Eros sat to my left, Lucius to my right, and Dexter just beside his brother, and the others lined beside Lucius.I could feel their hard gazes as I ate my food, almost choking at the intensity of their stares."Is there something on my face?" I asked when I couldn't take it anymore, forcing them to dig into their plates while Lucius cut my food in small pieces, refilling my plate like it was his whole duty on the table. With my just concluded heat, I felt more connected to my mates. However, for some reason, I was even more attracted to Lucius whose presence I craved more than usual."How do you feel?" Dexter asked, ever concerned. I shot him a smile."Great." I responded, unwilling to bother him with the overwhelming feelings that seemed to be my new state since the heat period passed. My feelings felt all over the place, as well as my strength. It all felt new, and I was looking forward to taking a run to relea

IRAI wrapped my arms around Eros as he pounded into my core, every thrust harder than the last while I held on to him like my life depended on it.My eyes rolled to the back as I took every thrust like a champ, my legs wrapped around him like a koala bear.I'd lost count of how many rounds it’s been.Unlike Dexter, who was a chatterbox during sex, Eros was a king in the bed. While Eros pounded me into oblivion, I felt my heart open wider than my legs, receiving everything he had to offer and then some.Eros went faster as he pounded into me, a tell-tale he was nearing the finish line. IRAHe wasn't saying anything. With every passing second, my blood boiled and I felt my anger exceed my lustful desire to have him.I loathed the side of me that wanted to forget about the many things he did and let him have his wicked way with me.The side of me that couldn't wait to have him balls deep within me as he marked me in the very room his brother fucked me silly.I hated that my need for him was driving me towards forgetting everything that led our non-existent relationship to this point. To accept his apology knowing that I'd never be content until he gave me a proper explanation of the reason behind his actions.Just when I was nearing my wits’ end, Eros spoke, breaking the silence with words that broke something within me."I was scared," he said, staring me dead in the eyes. "I was scared it was all an illusion."I took an unconscious step back. "What?""I once thought I had a mate," he breathed. "She came into my life just like you did.""Unexpected, beautiful and hea
