Gabrielle stood at the door of her new office, her fingers caressing the cool metal handle while she thought for a moment. The subtle buzz of the metropolis beyond the door was very different from the calm existence she had left behind. She had given up the craziness of her former life for something new that seemed more like her own. There were bookcases and windows around the walls of the office that provided her a full view of the city. This made her feel like she was finally in charge.

She had made a lot of progress. Her business, which she had built from the ground up, was doing well, and for the first time in years, she felt at peace. Stop running away from the past. No more hiding. She was Gabrielle, and she was standing up.

The phone rang as she was sitting at her desk. The number was unknown, but something about it made her want to know more. She answered, but not right away.

"Gabrielle? Charles Walker is who it is. I heard about how well you've done, and I think it's time

"You're doing well," Alistair said, his voice full of both pride and worry. "But remember, Theodore, being a leader is more than just making decisions. You have the future on your shoulders. Theodore nodded, but he looked like he meant it. "Okay, Dad. I've been getting ready for this moment my whole life. At that moment, the door swung open. Alistair's close friend and member of the Kensington family, Victor Byrne, came in. But suddenly, Alistair saw a hardness in his eyes that he had never seen before. In a short voice, Victor said, "Alistair, Theodore." "We need to talk." You need to know something. Alistair's gut got tight. He knew something was wrong. "What is it?" Victor took a moment to think. "Someone in the company doesn't like your option. They believe you let them down by resigning. Alistair, it's making things tight. I think it will only become worse as time goes on. Everyone stopped chatting in the room. Theodore's gaze traveled back and forth between his father and

"I've called this meeting to make a decision," Alistair began, his voice solid but with a trace of worry in the air. "I've thought about it a lot, and I've decided to step down as CEO of Kensington Enterprises." The room was still in astonishment. People in the crowd whispered in shock. Theodore's eyes went large and his mouth opened a little. Belle's heart raced. "Are you going to step down?" Theodore asked, his voice wavering and his face showing surprise. Alistair nodded and kept looking. "Yes." I now know that my priorities have shifted. I need to put my family, my future with Belle, and our kids first. The company is in good hands, so I think it's time for the next generation to take over. Belle's breath stopped in her throat. People were still asking questions in the room, but it was clear that Alistair had already made up his mind. Alistair stared into Belle's eyes, and they softened. "I've made up my mind, Belle." It's time for us to go on together. She tried to say some

Belle stood by the window and looked down at the street below, which was peaceful. The house felt heavier than it had before, and the silent corners were louder now that her mind was blank. She had a hard time with the pregnancy, and her body was no longer hers. She felt a light touch on her shoulder and turned to see Alistair come into the room with a worried look on his face. He said as he got closer, "You've been quiet all day." "I'm just tired," she said in a voice that didn't sound real. Yes, she was exhausted, but not the way he anticipated she would be. Alistair turned his head and looked her in the eye. "Is it the baby?" he inquired. Belle tried to smile, but it didn't last long. "That's not all, Alistair. It's all of it. All of this makes me feel like I'm not myself anymore. She pointed at the house next door. "These roles are the only things that make me who I am." Being a wife, having a child, and living this new existence... Alistair's face relaxed, and he took her ha

"Are you really ready for this?" Even though Alistair's chest felt a little tight, his voice stayed strong. Theodore's eyes met his, and there was a fire behind them that he could see. "I'm ready." I'll show you. Alistair nodded, although he wasn't sure. Theodore was young, yet the way he talked made Alistair proud and scared at the same time. Theodore picked up the first sheet and looked at it carefully. He said in a low voice, "I'll start with the plan for the next quarter." Alistair sat back in his chair and watched his son get to work. Theodore moved right away. It seemed as if he had been born into the business and already understood everything about it. Alistair was proud and afraid at the same time. Was Theodore truly ready to take over everything? After a while, Alistair observed, "You're really doing this." Theodore looked up and smiled a little. "Father, I've been watching you my whole life." I think I'm ready to make a difference. Alistair's chest got tight. The chil

"I can't believe we're actually doing this," Belle said, staring out the window as Alistair unpacked the car. She could feel the ghosts of the Kensington estate pressing against her chest, even though she was in a new city. Alistair came in with a box in his hands and stopped when he noticed her expression. He set the box down. He whispered softly, "I know it feels strange, but this is for us." For our future. "A new beginning." Belle looked at him, her eyes scanning his face for what he saw. He had always been hopeful, but this move was more than just a new address. It was all of it. "Do you really think this will be enough?" She asked in a voice that was barely above a whisper. "Can we really leave everything behind?" Alistair moved forward and took her hands in his. "We're not running away from the past, Belle." We're going forward. And we can change it. His voice got softer. "This is only the first step." The doorbell rang, ending the moment. Belle's pulse raced and her mind

"Everything's ready," Belle's voice cut through his thoughts. It was pleasant and full of life. She walked over to him, and he always felt better when she was around. Her smile made him feel like the world was off his shoulders. Belle was going to talk to Alistair when Theodore strolled into the room. He looked exactly like the man Alistair had imagined: strong, determined, and confident. But Alistair could see something more in his eyes: a fire that he knew all too well. "Father, Mother," Theodore murmured, his voice strong but full of hope. "I've been thinking about what the next step for the organisation should be. I'm ready to make my first significant move as a leader. We developed something great, but now we need to grow. Belle raised an eyebrow, and Alistair's heart raced with both pride and anxiety. "What do you want to do?" Alistair asked, his voice full of both excitement and caution. Theodore's face was fixed as he gazed back and forth between his parents. "I want to ge
