Chapter 3

Author: July
Landon suddenly laughed. He reached out and brushed his fingertip against my slightly swollen lips. "Then, it'll already be too late even if you regret it later."

It was our first time, and Landon didn't even wait until we got to the bedroom.

My back hurt a bit rubbing against the wall, and I couldn't stop myself from biting him. "Landon, are you a beast? Don't you know how to be gentle?"

His scorching hot palm rested on my back.

After that, he panted as he kissed my neck. "Christine, I can't hold back any longer…"

After five minutes, I finally understood what he meant.

Landon carried me to my bedroom, and I buried my face in the pillow as I laughed uncontrollably.

"Landon, how long has it been since you've been with a woman?" I asked.

Landon looked at me seriously. "It's been a while. I've been busy with work these past few years."

I looked at him in surprise, and I felt my laughter fading.

A moment later, tears suddenly welled up in my eyes. "I'm so sorry Landon, I…"

Stained you.

"Christine, what are you saying?" Landon seemed a bit flustered by my crying.

He wiped my tears clumsily, but they never stopped flowing.

"I shouldn't have messed around with you," I said.

"But you already have," Landon said.

He leaned down and cupped my face as he looked at me, saying with a serious tone, "Christine, since you've already started this, then you need to see it to the end."

On the seventh day in Harbor City, Jerome Sloan, a friend from Gold City, suddenly sent me a message. "Christine, when are you coming back to Gold City?"

I replied, "I don't have any plans to return for now."

Jerome: "Everyone misses you. Jorgie's birthday is in a few days. Why don't you come back and join us?"

Me: "No, just send him my regards. I'll send a gift over."

Jerome: "Alright then. Take care of yourself."

In the room, Jerome handed his phone to Hansen. "Hansen, why don't you call Christine? She'll definitely listen to you."

Hansen stared coldly at the words on the screen.

Then, he suddenly stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. "If she doesn't want to come back, then she can just rot there."

"Hansen, don't be angry. Christine is probably just really upset right now."

"Yeah, she even took her ring off this time. It looks like she's really heartbroken. Honestly, you went a bit too far with that girl…"

"It's already over between us. What else does she want?"

Hansen suddenly snapped in anger. "Listen up, none of you are allowed to contact her. Not even if she dies!"

"Alright alright, we won't. Calm down, you just went to the hospital with a bleeding stomach two days ago."

"You only stopped having stomach issues when Christine was around. It's only been a few days, and you've already wrecked yourself…"

Every word they said made Hansen's face darken even more.

By the end, he simply grabbed his coat and stormed out.

The cold wind hit his face when he stepped outside, but Hansen still felt his chest burning with frustration.

That damned woman. It's been seven days, and Christine hadn't even sent him a text.

So, she was really trying to play this game?

Hansen coldly pulled up her number and blocked it.

She'd better not come back crawling to him.

This time, he swore he wouldn't go soft on her like he always did.

Landon called just as I finished typing up the last line of my manuscript and hit the formatting button.

I had been writing magazine columns since university and built up a decent reputation.

Then, I went full-time after I graduated.

Thanks to this, the income was pretty decent.

The freedom made things even better. I could take my laptop and work from anywhere.

So, after the breakup, there was no reason to stay in Gold City just to drown in heartache.

"Christine, what do you want for dinner?" Landon asked with a clear voice. Suddenly, all my exhaustion from working in the afternoon was soothed.

I said, "My brain cells are fried. I'm too tired to think about it, so you pick."

He said, "How about some fondue? I know a place with amazing bone marrow. You'll love it."

The only thing Landon wasn't quite satisfied with was how often Christine worked late. She could have just lived the life of pampered luxury, but she didn't.She got more beautiful with time, and her relationship with Landon deepened.Their daughter was unbelievably pretty. She looked just like Christine when Christine was young. In truth, she never knew that I had kept a photo of her at five years old in my wallet all these years.Gold City was vast, but its social circles were small.Yet, Christine and I never met.One afternoon, I happened to see their daughter, Alicia, at a buffet restaurant. She was hiding behind an artificial rock decoration and eating a tub of ice cream. She looked like an adorable squirrel with how she was stuffing her cheeks.I stopped in my tracks without thinking and found it impossible to tear my eyes away.A moment later, I heard Christine calling out her name.Alicia heard Christine too, and she widened her eyes in panic, unsure of what to do

I turned back, looking at him with a gentle smile. "Let's go to the hospital."The night Landon proposed, he drank a lot. He held me and said so many things. But in the end, I only remembered two simple sentences."Christine, we'll never have a relationship like that.""Christine, we'll never break up."Every time someone made a vow, they always meant it with all their hearts. But when they broke the vow later on, people would wonder why anyone believed in them in the first place. But I chose to trust in Landon.I wanted to believe in myself too.I wanted to believe that I was worthy of being loved. I wanted to believe that true love wouldn't be betrayed. On the day Landon and I got engaged, I received a package from Gold City.Inside was the wedding dress I had once bought. It was the one that Hansen had gotten a master tailor to restore. There was even a handwritten card inside.Hansen wrote, "Christine, I will always wait for you."Landon had been by my side, and he s

The two of them glared at each other, neither willing to back down."Can you stop now?" I said angrily and anxiously. My voice was starting to choke up.Hansen's face was dark as he said, "Christine, you saw it too. Landon was the one who punched me first. I won't let what happened today go.""Yes, he did start the fight. Mr. Fullerton, I'll have him apologize to you. We'll cooperate with whatever you need to resolve this," I said."Christine, he's the one who started insulting…" Landon protested.I gently pressed his hand and said calmly, "Mr. Fullerton, I apologize on Landon's behalf.""Christine, are you really going to protect him like this?" Hansen asked.Hansen slowly stepped forward. "Christine, he hit me first.""So, how do you want to resolve this?" I asked."Christine, I'm hurt." Hansen pointed to his face. "See this bruise? It really hurts…"I glanced at him and said calmly. "Then I'll call an ambulance for you. We'll cover all the medical expenses.""Christine, y

But that was it. Only pain was left."Hansen, I already have a boyfriend." I tightened my grip on Landon's hand and stepped forward from behind him, standing by his side.Hansen's face was drained of all color in an instant. He slowly lowered his gaze until it landed on our interlocked fingers. He saw the matching rings we were wearing. They were just like what Hansen and I used to wear back then."Christine, are you serious?" Hansen asked.I took a deep breath and looked at Landon. Then, I nodded. "Yes, I'm serious."Hansen let out a bitter laugh. "Do you really think he's serious about you? Do you think his feelings are genuine? Two years ago, he fought me to the death over a project. And now he went for you. Do you think he has no ulterior motives? "Can he stand and swear that him chasing you has nothing to do with competing against me? Christine, you're still so naive. Men are all the same. You've been with me for seven years. Do you really think Landon wouldn't mind it k

"Landon…" Hansen's voice came to a halt when Landon ended the call and casually switched off the phone. His lips brushed over my slightly swollen ones. "Baby, wake up…"I had thought about what it would be like to see Hansen again. He came from a wealthy and privileged family, so he was filled with arrogance. We had parted on peaceful terms. If I did meet him, he would either ignore me or nod and exchange pleasantries. In the end, my parents were in Gold City.Hansen and I shared a lot of mutual friends as well.It was impossible for our lives never to intersect again. But never had I imagined that the once untouchable heir who was admired by everyone would look so disheveled and lost.Meanwhile, I was in an exceptionally good mood thanks to being well-rested. I had a newly bought cashmere dress on and my makeup was great.I looked great.I was holding onto Landon's arm, laughing as we stepped out of a revolving door. After that, I saw Hansen getting out of his car.I froz

The second month after Christine left, Hansen had sent her a message. The message had been delivered successfully but was never responded to.It read, "I'm planning to sell the apartment. What should I do with your clothes?"He might have forgotten that Christine had left him a note telling him he could deal with everything as he pleased.Or maybe he hadn't forgotten at all. Maybe he just wanted an excuse to text her.Hansen probably felt that it was his way of extending an olive branch to Christine. If Christine was smart, she would accept it.Hansen had a bad temper, but he was actually easy to please as well.Christine never replied, but the apartment was never sold.Christine's clothes and all her old belongings were all in their original spots. It was as if she had never left.Hansen would always return to the apartment late at night if he had to attend any social events. He would lie on Christine's bed, unable to sleep until the sun came up.In the third month after
