He stood there for a moment, staring at her.

“How may I help you?” The woman's voice called him back to reality.

“Oh,” Leon cleared his throat. “Good afternoon, madam. We’re looking for someone, a woman named Elizabeth. We believe she used to live here.”

The woman’s eyes widened slightly. “Elizabeth?” she thought then remembered, “Oh… her. “Haven’t heard that name in years. But… Why are you looking for her?

“I have someone important to ask her.”

“Hmm…” her gaze shifted to Darious then back to Leon. “Come in.”

When they got in, she brought a stool out for Leon to sit while she sat across him.

“So, you knew her?”

“Knew?” The woman gave a warm smile. “Everybody knew Elizabeth. She was trouble — always drinking, always fighting. Men in and out of her place. One day, she… vanished. No one knows her whereabouts.”

Leon straightened his back, “Do you know what happened?”

“She was pregnant when she disappeared,” the woman continued. “Gave birth at the hospital, then ran away with the baby. W
