71. All She Had

Aris had not been blind to the news. He had wondered how Adrea was doing but he had not reached out. If she needed him, she knew where to find him. That had been his mindset. He had not expected her to reach out to him. She wanted to meet him as she was not comfortable talking over the phone.

As he watched her from across the room, he felt some kind of way that she had come to him. It meant that she was letting him in. His efforts with her were not in vain.

She looked up and the sadness making her blue eyes appear glassy threatened to choke the life out of his heart. He wanted to reach over to her and comfort her but he knew her. She was not Adrea if she did not come with her fair share of pride.

“I know you saw or heard the news about my husband and me,” she said.

He nodded. He knew her marriage was open but he could help but feel anger towards the man she had married. How could anyone hurt her? She was a woman a man would be a fool to not cherish. Hence his mental insistence that she

He had packed a bag and left. Adrea had learnt from the maids gossiping when they thought she was far from earshot. Her soon-to-be ex… it was weird and somehow final thinking of him like that… he had left. Had he gone to live with Belinda? Was he going back to his mother’s home? He had a penthouse apartment in a hotel… was he going to move there? It did not matter. They were going to live apart sooner or later. This house had been a gift to her from her father. She was going to sell it and use the funds to buy a different property. She wanted nothing to do with this lot. It now held one of the worst memories of her life. She still had not mustered the strength to get into what was once her and Rafael’s bedroom. She was never going to walk into that room willingly. In fact, she had half a mind to move out. There was nothing holding her here. The only thing that was stopping her from selling the property was her lawyer. The man had told her to hold on big financial moves until after Raf

  • Condemned Wife's Compliance   73. Serrated Opinions

There were mixed reviews on Adrea’s little speech. One group of people still thought that she had been coerced into doing it. Another group thought that she was saving face and/or just keeping a brave face in the face of betrayal. Some people thought that maybe the divorce story was real and wondered who had done what for it to be initiated. They did not believe that they “just agreed to divorce”; no one was buying that hogwash. Not when the couple had been seen together merely months back and had looked so in love. Sure, looks may have been deceiving, but you couldn’t fake the love the pair had shown in their eyes. There was speculation among the masses. People wanted to know about the timeline. Adrea, who had never shown signs of wanting to be in the poker world before, had now just debuted and won the Golden Aces Poker Game. They assumed that maybe the reason she had switched to poker was probably because she had found out she was cheated on. Others said maybe this was why Rafael h

  • Condemned Wife's Compliance   72. Addressing The Masses

The cameras were pointing at her and so was every eye in the room. Adrea reminded herself to breathe and not to focus on who else would be watching her when the camera was turned on and live. Her eyes strayed to Aris, who was talking to one of the guys on his team. The guy, to Adrea, felt like he was fresh out of university. He had said little to nothing but was now in charge of setting up the equipment for the livestream along with their dedicated camerawoman.Aris and the guy were looking at the screen of a laptop while Adrea was sitting in the chair in front of it. She looked down and tried to remember her speech. She needed to acknowledge that she had seen the viral situation that was her marriage. From there, she needed to address the state of her marriage and declare Belinda and Rafael innocent. She would thank everyone for fighting for her and then end the stream. Yes. That was it. She took a breath and looked up.That breath was robbed from her, as she had not expected Aris to

  • Condemned Wife's Compliance   70. A Place To Lay The Blame

The one good thing about what was going on was her money was safe. According to her lawyer, divorce would take long enough that by the time it was finalised, everything would be in her control. If her uncles wanted to challenge Rafael’s hold over what she had, that would take even longer. They would be wasting their time and whatever little money they had to spare. That was the one good thing. Everything else was in hell. She was sitting in her living room as the housekeeper invited in the guests. Rafael’s PR team. She heard Rafael talk to them and then lead them to the dining room. She tried to pretend they were not there. This was a part of her life that they were going to coordinate without her input. Since she had seen the articles and attached images of Rafael and Belinda together, she had gone through a few emotional stages. She had concluded that the necklace she had gotten the previous day was due to guilt. He had given it to her because he knew that he was going to be with Bel

  • Condemned Wife's Compliance   69. About His Mistress

Adrea woke up that morning unaware of what was going on. She did note that the maids and housekeeper were being nicer than usual. She put it down to being back home after never leaving for long periods and them missing her. But there was something else going on. She did not want to confront it, but she could feel it.It was there in their eyes when they looked at her. There when she asked where the morning’s paper was, and Mrs Lynch had deflected and distracted her. She ignored it and went about catching up on books she had not had a chance to finish when she had been away. That was how Rafael found her when he got home. Curled up on the couch with not a care in the world. Untouched by the chaos that was at their door. She looked up when he walked closer to her, and the smile that had been forming on her face died.It had been a while since they had spoken, for one, and two, there was something accusatory in his eyes that she did not like. He was looking at her like he was trying to f
