The sound of the iron door closing hit my chest like thunder. We were locked inside the dark room.

“Alexander!” I cried. My voice was tight with fear as the darkness covered us.

I moved blindly through the dark, my hands shaking as I reached out. My fingers touched the rough fabric of his black sweater. Alexander was already moving. His strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me and the boys close to his chest to protect us.

The loud alarm kept ringing. A weak red light flashed over the gre

The terrifying words from the radio speaker hung in the dark, heavy air of the bridge."Kill the parents, take the infants."My heart stopped beating completely. My blood turned to liquid ice in my veins.Julian and Leo. My sweet, helpless twin boys were lying in their travel cribs in the master suite, completely unprotected. The loud metallic sound above us was the enemy cutting straight through the ceiling roof right above their heads."Julian... Leo..." The words tore out of my throat, raw, frantic, and filled with unbearable terror.I didn't think. I didn't hesitate. I turned toward the heavy steel door of the bridge, ready to sprint blindly into the dark, red-lit hallway to reach my babies before those monsters touched them. Before I could take two steps, a strong, iron arm wrapped firmly around my waist, hauling me back against a broad, solid chest."Elena, wait!" Alexander’s deep voice echoed close to my ear, thick with tight, concentrated power."Let me go!" I fought wildly ag

The Chairman’s cold, mocking laugh faded into harsh static as the transmission cut out, leaving the bridge of The Sovereign in dead silence.I turned to Alexander, my heart pounding against my ribs. All the public money, the board seats, the global accounts—everything his family built—wiped out with the press of a button."Alexander..." I whispered, reaching out to grab his hand. "The accounts... Blackwood Enterprises..."I expected to see panic on his face. I expected the ruthless Ice King to break.Instead, Alexander slowly leaned back in the captain's leather chair. A low, dark laugh rumbled deep in his chest, a sound so dangerously calm it sent a shiver straight down my spine. He didn't look defeated. He looked like a man who had lured his enemies right into a trap."He thinks he played me, Elena," Alexander murmured, his gray eyes locking onto mine with an intense, intoxicating heat. Before I could speak, his large hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me down onto his lap and br

The heavy rain continued to hammer down on the top deck of The Sovereign, but nobody moved.Alexander’s dark gray eyes locked onto Miller, the ship's chief engineer. Miller’s face went ghastly white, sweat dripping down his forehead despite the cold sea breeze."Miller," Alexander said softly, his deep voice carrying a terrifying, quiet calm. "Step away from the panel."Miller completely broke. He collapsed onto his knees on the wet deck, sobbing frantically into his hands. "I'm sorry, Mr. Blackwood! They threatened my family! The Syndicate paid off my debts and said they only wanted the boat's location... I didn't know they were going to hurt the babies!""Marcus," Alexander commanded, not even looking at the weeping engineer. "Lock him in the lower hold. We'll handle him when we hit land.""Yes, boss," Marcus growled. He grabbed Miller by the collar, hauled him up, and marched him swiftly down the hallway hatch, securing the heavy iron door behind them. The moment the threat was gon

My heart stopped. The world around me lost all sound, reduced to the terrifying image on the split screen: a black-gloved hand hovering over Julian’s crib, and a gun pointed straight at Leo’s sleeping head.Panic hit me like a physical punch, taking all the air out of my lungs."Marcus..." I choked out, my hands trembling as I stared at the screen. "They're inside. They're right next to my babies."Marcus’s face went deadly pale. His fingers flew across the console, pulling up the ship's internal sensor map. "How did they get on board? We locked down every airlock when we brought the boat in!""They didn't break in through the doors," a rough, gravelly voice spoke up from the hallway.I whipped my head around.Alexander was standing in the doorway of the bridge, leaning his heavy weight against the metal frame. He had torn out his IV lines, and fresh red blood was already seeping through the clean white bandage wrapped around his chest. He was pale, sweating, and barely able to stand,

"They're already dead."The words rasped out of Alexander’s throat like a harsh whisper, followed by a heavy cough that brought up dark blood against his pale lips.My heart hammered against my ribs. I couldn't move. I couldn't even catch my breath. I just stared at him as his bloody hand tightened around my ankle with unbelievable strength. The gray eyes that had looked flat and lifeless only seconds ago were suddenly burning with a cold, terrifying fire."Alexander..." I choked out, dropping back onto my knees beside him. "You're alive. Oh God, you're alive."He didn't waste his breath trying to speak. Using pure, stubborn willpower, Alexander forced his broad frame off the wet wooden dock. Every muscle in his body strained. His jaw was locked tight, and blood kept soaking straight through his torn shirt, but he ignored it completely. Adrenaline and rage had taken over.Out in the bay, the Syndicate boat floated over the dark ocean water. Its bright white spotlight cut through the n

"JULIAN! LEO!" I screamed, my voice tearing raw against the sound of splintering wood and roaring wind.Instinct took over. I didn't think; I didn't breathe. I threw my body across the buckling hardwood, reaching out with both hands just as Julian’s crib tilted violently toward the jagged edge.My fingers caught the smooth wooden rail by a fraction of an inch. The weight of the crib pulled me forward, my stomach slamming hard against the splintering floorboards. Below me, fifty feet down, the dark, icy ocean crashed furiously against the sharp rocks, spraying cold saltwater up through the gaping hole."I've got you, baby! I've got you!" I gasped, every muscle in my arms burning as I fought against gravity to pull the crib back onto solid ground. On the other side of the widening crack, Leo's crib began to slide backward toward the abyss.Suddenly, a bloody hand reached up and grabbed the wooden leg of Leo's crib with a crushing, desperate grip.It was Alexander.Despite the bullet wou

The flight across the Atlantic was dead silent. The interior of Alexander’s private Gulfstream jet was pure luxury, filled with soft leather seats, polished mahogany tables and warm yellow lighting. But to me, it felt like a moving coffin. The engines hummed a low, steady tune that vibrated right t

The atmosphere inside the car changed instantly. Marcus was still talking through the speaker but my mind went blank. It felt like the room was turning around us. I stared at Alexander, my hands dropping to my sides. The rich smell of scotch on his breath suddenly felt suffocating.“What do you mean, a twin?” My voice was barely a whisper. “Alexander, that’s impossible. I was there. I gave birth to Leo. There was

The tiny red dot burned on my forehead like a brand. I couldn’t blink. I couldn’t breathe.I looked at my mother, waiting for even the smallest sign that she still cared about me, waiting for her to scream at Victor to stop. But she just stood there by her leather sofa, her knuckles white around h
