Chapter 114

Jake's POV

I stayed in my room, even though all I wanted was to seduce Selena until she gave in. But I was giving her the chance to choose. I wouldn't force her. She seemed like she wanted to be with me, so I decided to wait for her to make the first move.

I fell asleep eventually, but woke with a start at the sound of someone talking. Shirtless, I walked to the living room. The light was still on, and Selena sat in front of her laptop, engrossed in a conversation.

From her words, I gathered she was talking to her mother. I stayed hidden, listening intently. Selena sounded worried about the kids.

"They really didn't cry today?" Mrs. Dacosta's voice filtered through the speaker.

"I miss them so much, Mom," Selena replied, her voice heavy with sadness.

"If you're this worried," I thought, "why are you even here?"

"I know, but how is Jake?" she continued. "We saw the news."

"He's holding up well," Mrs. Dacosta reassured her. "He's strong, not one to break down easily."
