LOGINELOISE
The world around me shattered between sound and rain. For a moment, I couldn't separate the voice from the rain. I couldn't tell whether the voice belonged to reality or the illusion created by the heavy rain. My gaze snapped back to the man, whose weary eyes remained fixed on me, as if I were the very anchor of his existence. “You…” However… “Emergency services. State your location.” The sudden voice snapped through the rain like a blade cutting through fog, pulling me back from the edge of whatever that broken whisper had done to me. My breath hitched, my fingers tightening instinctively around the phone as reality rushed back in all at once. “I… T-There’s been an accident.” I forced the words out, trying hard to steady my voice as my pulse thundered in my ears. "Calm down, ma'am. Can you please share the details? Is anyone injured, or anything else?” “A c-car… it hit the divider. O-one is u-unresponsive and the other… he's still bre-athing barely.” My tone was falling apart with each word. “Ma'am, stay on the line, and try to give me your exact location.” “I…” I looked around, trying to focus my shaking gaze through the relentless sheets of rain. “Ha-arvard lane, behind t-the church gate…” I muttered. “Help is on the way. Please, do not move the victims unless necessary.” Necessary?... The word caught me, and my eyes snapped back to the man slumped against me. His grip was still tight on my wrist, but he wasn't conscious anymore. “…Sir?” I said quietly, trying to free my wrist, but the weight of his grip was too tight for me. His breathing had turned shallower. No, no! I swallowed hard. “H-he has fainted. His breathing isn't good either!” “Calm down Ma'am. Help is less than three minutes away.” Three minutes!? That's too damn long! I wanted to scream at that but held myself back. The call ended shortly, leaving me alone with two men, and I had no idea if even one of them was alive or not!... ******** After what felt like three hours, red and blue lights cut through the darkness. Paramedics rushed forward, assessing the situation sharply. The first thing they did was carefully free his grip from mine and then secure him in the ambulance along with the driver. “Ma'am, do you know him?” One of them asked. The question caught me off guard. “I…” My words trailed off as my gaze drifted back to the man in the ambulance. The way his grip tightened on my wrist and his strained voice, calling my name… The world spun suddenly, and I stumbled back. One of the medics caught me. “I think you should come as well, for a checkup.” I didn't deny it, and gave a slow nod… ******* The ride to the hospital was short. Both men were immediately taken inside. The doctor immediately declared the driver “dead on arrival.” And the other man was taken to the emergency ward. I was also given first aid and some checkups, which came out fine, except my anxiety level was high. As I was released, one of the nurses found me. "Ma'am, were you with the accident patient?” “I… yeah.” My fingers curled on my sides. Please God, not another death. “Come with me ma'am, doctor's looking for you.” “Oh…” A bit confused, I followed her. Before the emergency ward, two doctors were standing and discussing something. “You were with the patient?” One of the doctors asked. “Yes?” “How do you know him?” “I…” I glanced back at the closed ward. My anxiety level was rising again. "Their car crashed out of nowhere; I happened to be on the scene…” The doctors glanced at each other. "Please sit here, ma'am. You'll have to wait a bit.” I blinked, confusion crawling within me. "But I'm not his family. I happened to find him on the road.” "We understand, ma'am, but you still have to wait. It's the procedure." Then he glanced at the nurse before leaving with the other doctor. What the hell!? I turned to the nurse, "Can you please tell me what's happening?” “Ma'am, I understand your confusion, but you have to wait, please.” She then paused, her eyes looking hesitant before she added, “It's a police case… So, they might need your statement.” Police case?! I sat there, stunned. I should have known better considering the situation. I didn't argue anymore; I had no strength left for that. Without a word, I sat on the chair, my eyes drifting back to the closed door of the ward. I sat there alone. For a while, I didn’t move. The adrenaline was fading now, leaving behind a strange, hollow stillness. My clothes clung to me, drenched in water. I was still feeling cold even though the nurse provided me with a small blanket. I exhaled slowly, pressing my fingers lightly against my temples… “E-ll-oise”... The man's single word played in my head in a repeated mode. My fingers curled slightly, digging into the soft flesh. “D-did he really call my name?” I whispered under my breath. “Or… Was it just my panicked mind?” The question sat on my heart with no possible answer to satisfy me. I stood up and walked toward the door, looking through the small pane of glass attached there. The man lay on the white bed, with wires attached to his body and a machine beside the head of the bed. No matter how I looked at the man, I couldn't recall him. I'd never seen him in my life. “You couldn't possibly know me. It’s impossible.” I muttered to myself. “It was just the situation…” That was the only logical answer I could come up with at the moment. I breathed deeply. I had just left this place with a sour heart, and my cruel fate again brought me back to the same hospital. A bitter chuckle escaped my lips. “Yeah, of course…” Shaking my head helplessly, I walked toward the end of the corridor, where the water filter was set. My throat had dried up; perhaps some water would compose me. However, just as I picked up a paper cup, “So, you didn't leave, did you?” A cold tone rang in my ears, freezing me on the spot. The familiarity in the voice made my eyes snap in that direction, only for a sourness to claw at my skin. Just a few feet away stood Damien Santos, my ex-husband, at whom I had thrown the divorce papers just an hour earlier. What a great ending to the courses, yeah?...‘The last one.’ Those words sounded like poison to her ears. What did she mean by that? Abraham's words from last night flashed through her mind. He had mentioned Leo's mother. Did Victoria mean Leo’s mother as well? Eloise felt her heartbeat rise to the point of fainting, yet she managed herself. She kept her chin up, her spine rigid as a steel rod, refusing to give Victoria the satisfaction of seeing her break. The air between them was thick with unspoken malice, but Eloise refused to choke on it. She looked Victoria dead in the eye, a cool, dismissive smile played on her lips. "You know, Victoria, you spend so much time trying to tarnish my name, you’ve completely missed how badly your own foundation is cracking.”Immediately Victoria’s smile vanished. “Enjoy the party. I’m done wasting my breath on you." With that final remark, Eloise turned on her heel and walked away. But as soon as Victoria was out of sight, the icy composure began to fracture. Victoria’s venomous words
“Well, I hoped you would disturb me, Mrs. Argos.” Those words hung in the air, making her choke on her own breath. Her eyes were wide, staring at him in a daze. Her heart slammed violently against her ribs. She was trapped between the unyielding wall of his chest and the hard, cold glass of the window. She wanted to turn around, to push him away, but as his thumbs lightly traced a slow, burning circle across the bare skin of her shoulders, her body betrayed her.Her body subconsciously leaned into him, bewitched by the dangerous promise of his closeness. At that moment, if he were to take her to bed, she would gladly follow. However, in the end, it couldn't happen as a knock on the door shattered their moment. The sharp knock cuts through the suffocating tension, followed by a polite voice… “Chairman, it's time,” Marcus spoke outside the door. Eloise was finally snapped out of her daze. She let out a shaky sigh, expecting Abraham to drop his hands and step back. But, he didn't
Leo's Mother?... Eloise glanced at the back of the cold, distant man.Does that mean there was more than just family disputes? She knows there was a deep-seated grudge between the brothers, but she didn't know how deep it was.Could Damien and his family have anything to do with Leo's mother? Did they hurt her, or something?... She thought. But her thoughts paused and broke when Abraham hung up. Immediately, she rushed to the bed and pulled the duvet over her just as he entered the room. She closed her eyes, forcing her breathing to become steady as though she had been sleeping all along.Abraham returned to bed and slipped beside her, pulling her into his arms once more. He dropped a soft kiss on her neck. "I'll not let them touch you ever again." His warm whisper rang as a silent promise in her ear. Her fingers clenched tightly as she laid there almost dead. She didn't dare to move. However, soon, his breathing on her neck turned steady. "Did he fall asleep?" she thought, but
Eloise stared at the man in a daze. Did he just confess? She didn't understand at all. Her lips parted and then closed. She couldn't utter a single word. The entire day's exhaustion finally took over, and she felt too haggard even to use a single brain cell.Looking down at her tired eyes, the dark, predatory hunger in Abraham’s eyes instantly softened, melting into something fiercely protective.Even though he wanted to, he didn't push his advantage, and he didn't lean in to claim the kiss that was practically begging to happen between them.Instead, with a single, swift movement, he effortlessly picked her up into his arms.A soft gasp tore through her lips, her hands instinctively wrapped around his neck for balance as he carried her away. "Abraham, wait... put me down. I ca-an walk!""You can barely stand," his voice rumbled. "You need to rest."With Eloise in his arms, he stepped into the massive, dimly lit bedroom and laid her down gently. “If this goes on for a few more mi
“My wife and I… are absolutely in love.” Abraham walked inside. A smug grin tugged at the corner of her lips.He was still slightly disheveled from before. His sharp green eyes swept the room once, gazing at Miller, then swiftly landed on Eloise. Immediately, his cold gaze softened. Eloise blinked. When did he return? How much did he listen? Questions swirled within her mind.He walked in slowly. “Agent Miller,” he said, his voice calm enough to be polite, but there was nothing polite underneath it.“I see, you're here entertaining my wife.” He stopped right behind his wife. His arms locked firmly around her waist and pulled her back against his chest in a way that looked as if she belonged there.Eloise froze for a second, her breath caught at the sudden closeness, but she forced herself to stay in character, even as her mind screamed at how his closeness tickled her stomach. But what he did next left her rendered speechless… Abraham lowered his head and pressed a sudden kiss to
Miller's eyes flickered once toward the oversized blazer hanging off her shoulders that she had arrived in.“I appreciate you taking the time to speak with me,” he continued dryly. “Though judging by the situation downstairs, I assume the welcoming committee didn’t exactly leave you much time to recover.”Eloise froze instantly.Even through the exhaustion clouded her brain, years of survival instinct kicked in fast. Every warning bell in her head started screaming at once.“Internal Affairs?” she repeated carefully. “Look, Agent, if this is about the mess at the airport, my husband is already dealing with it. A federal judge is involved now. We’ve done nothing wrong.”Miller gave a small smile, though there was nothing friendly about it."Oh, this has nothing to do with Prosecutor Demoor's corruption disaster," his words were very calm, and that honestly was scaring me.I'm on the very edge of calling Abraham, but he was in a meeting with the barrister, right? Besides, asking for h
"You've got to be kidding me," Eloise muttered to herself, rubbing her aching temples as the realization of what she had done finally crashed through her sleep-deprived brain.“F**k you, Rox!” She cursed as she stared at her open suitcase that looked like a vacation at a Miami beach. When Abraham d
