Author’s POV

Adrian’s forearm was coated in blood, his once-crisp white shirt now soaked in crimson.

For a moment, Ethan couldn’t breathe.

The world seemed to tilt as his eyes locked onto the sight—panic slamming into him so violently it left no room for thought. His heart pounded against his ribs, erratic and loud, as if echoing in his ears.

Then instinct took over.

He rushed forward. “What happened to you?” he demanded, his voice sharp—but unsteady.

His gaze dropped to the blood again, and so

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 182: The Weight of the Name

Adrian's POVSitting under the lamp light I went through the depth of piles, photographs, videos and maps. The attack happening on us from several months, were finally come to light. The culprit was going to be revealed but I'm afraid it will tear my family apart. The evidences, clues, and everything was pointing out at one person, I don't want it to be true."Hope my assumptions are wrong, or it declares a war."Closing the files, I turned to look at the clock. It was a quarter to three, I sighed and walked back to our room. Ethan was lying pale, hugging himself. I massaged his scalp lightly as I laid down beside him. And soon his body was curving against me. His hands aslapped around me and I smiled softly."I know James and you had a past. And whatever he didn't in the lounge of office room. He will have to answer for it." I said pecking his forehead softly. The history between them seems like a iceberg. And I only know the outer surface of it. The more I try to peek to the depth t

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 181: James

Adrian's POVThe meeting went well, we closed the deal. I walked out with the partner smiling as we walk through the corridor toward my cabin, I hear Ethan's voice. My face scowled immediately, and as I look forward I find someone running from the lounge toward the staircase. "Ethan? Is it him?", I mumble under my breath. "Umm... sir. Its Ethan only", Davel whispered from behind. I frowned hard and passed a stern gaze at him. Before I could inquire further, I find another person trying to behind him. Instantly, I worked with my reflex."Stop!", I said. The person halted on his way and stands rooted. Excusing myself from the client, I eye Davel to take care of him and walk toward the suited person. The moment I reached closer to him I got a familiar face."James?", I utter more like a question to myself. "What are you doing here?", I ask as he turns to me fully."Hello Brother...", he said, with a smile. I clench my fist and stare at his face. Trying to read his face. "I just came

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 180: Are you not happy seeing me?

Ethan's POV"Hello Ethan, long time no see," he says, amusement threading through his voice like a blade wrapped in silk. An excited smile spreads across his face. Meanwhile, seeing my worst nightmare standing in front of me, alive and breathing, makes my knees buckle. The floor tilts. I slip and land back on the couch before I even register falling.Horror spreads through me. My blood drains somewhere I can't reach, and my eyes go wide, red-rimmed, burning. My heart stutters to a stop for one long, suspended second when I see the corner of his lips curl upward an evil smirk dressed up as a smile. His shoes click against the floor, louder with every step he takes toward me. My fingers clutch at the sofa's velvet, nails digging in until the fabric bunches beneath them. He looks like a devil walking calmly through hell he built himself."What?" he asks, feigning innocence, stopping two steps away. "Are you not happy seeing me?" His voice cracks with faked hurt, and the sound sends a

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 179: Taking the file

Ethan’s POVAlmost a week had passed meaning seven days of pretending that everything was normal when nothing inside me felt normal anymore. I had built a shell around myself and stayed inside it. I spoke to Adrian only when absolutely necessary. Even then, my answers were short, emotionless, and carefully measured.“Yes.”“No.”“I’m fine.”“I don’t need anything.”Those were probably the words Adrian had heard most from me all week. And strangely enough, he never complained. He didn’t force me to talk nor did he demand explanations.Instead, he simply stayed.During therapy sessions, I barely responded to him. Sometimes I didn’t even acknowledge his presence. I would sit quietly, answer the therapist when I was asked something, and leave the moment the session ended.I had asked for space and Adrian gave it to me. But he never truly left me alone. He maintained his distance, but somehow he was always there. If I went downstairs, he would eventually appear there. If I sat in the stud

  • Contracted to the man who broke me    Chapter 178: Pointless to Answer

Ethan's POVWhen my eyes opened, everything seemed blurry. I wondered for a second if I was dead. Was I able to accomplish my idea? But when my vision got cleared I realised I was still alive.A deep breathe exhales out of my chest as disappointment. I was heart broken to know I survived. And closed my eyes again. "Survived to face all those disgrace, humiliation, pain and trauma," my subconscious said. And a electrifying jolt passes through my spine.I jolt up on the bed, and sit on my ass. My breathe heaving as James dangerous yet mockery filled laugh echoes in my ears. His face flashing right infront of me as he says, "You can't even do a task nicely. Pity on you, Ethan..."Tsk. Tsk. Tsk."No... I failed", I scream in panic. As two stong arms engulf me in a hug. "Please spare me...", I cried. Resisting to get out of that hold which was trying to grab and pull me back."Open your eyes, Ethan. You are safe... I'm there", a soft voice cooes in my ears. I jitter first but then slowly,

Adrian's POV"Hak... hak..."The sound broke through before anything else did. Raw. Wet. Tearing its way out of his throat in short broken bursts.I froze completely, my whole body going still except for the frantic hammering of my own heart. I watched his eyes flutter, half opening, unfocused, the pupils struggling to fix on anything at all. He looked at me and through me at the same time, like I was nothing more than a shape and a blur of light standing over him. He's alive. He's breathing. He's alive.I pulled him into my arms before I could stop myself, holding him like my own life depended on the grip of my hands. I didn't care how it looked. I didn't care that Rosamund stood watching from the doorway with her hand still pressed over her mouth. I just held him."Ethan. Ethan, I'm here. I'm right here."His face didn't change. No recognition crossed it. His eyes stayed distant, glassy, drifting somewhere past my shoulder like he couldn't place where the sound of my voice was even
