Chapter 4

Author: Keysmash
Carter and Tiffany, who were desperately holding London back, stopped dead in their tracks.

"Oh, no. She's a copycat! She really copied London and jumped into the lake!"

Tiffany stomped her foot.

Panic-stricken, she rushed to me.

Tears welled up in London's eyes.

"Mom! Dad!"

"Just stop for a minute!"

Carter was beside himself.

"If you keep this up, Kylie is only going to copy you! Get Kylie out of the water now!"

I was hauled onto shore by several pairs of hands.

Blood streamed from my mouth and nose.

Someone started chest compressions right away while another tried to clear water from my lungs.

Amid the confusion, London was completely forgotten.

London stood there, biting her lip.

A gasp tore through the air.

"Oh, no! London jumped off the balcony!"

"What?"

In the bushes not too far away, London lay with her eyes shut.

She was motionless.

London was rushed to the ER right away.

The doctor pointed out that London was lucky to land where she did.

The shrubbery was dense enough.

There was even a kids' trampoline right next to the bushes.

She had only jumped from the second floor.

The only damage was soft tissue bruises.

However, the doctor offered a word of caution.

It was important not to assume she was only putting on an act. The family needed to keep an eye on her mental well-being.

Once back home, London couldn't stop weeping.

"I know why Kylie tried to jump into the water.

"I have depression, and she has a copycat disorder. If I tried to kill myself, she'd copy me, and everyone would blame me for her attempt.

"But I never meant for you to follow suit. I am ready to end everything, but you keep pushing me. I honestly can't go on anymore!"

She grabbed the sleeping pills off the table and tried to shove them down her throat.

Bentley was there to snatch the bottle out of her hands.

When he turned around, he realized that I had picked up a bottle of pills as well.

"That's enough!"

The pills were knocked out of my hands.

"Stop copying! Is there no end to your antics?"

I bent down to gather the pills scattered across the floor.

Smack!

Tiffany's tolerance had reached a limit.

"How long are you going to keep up with the act? I've consulted a doctor, and mimicry isn't even a medical condition!

"You've been faking it.

"You're doing this just to stress London out and herself push her toward suicide."

Dropping to the floor, I looked up at her.

"Mom, I can't help myself. I'm compelled to copy what I see."

"Is that so?"

Bentley rose to his feet.

He pushed a tablet in front of me.

The footage showed a girl with a rope around her neck.

Before the livestream camera, her feet were suspended in the air, and foam spilled from her mouth.

"Here. Copy this."

I watched the girl in the video, my heart thumping out of my chest.

"Go ahead! Do it then."

Bentley shoved a length of rope in my hands. "Go on."

I stared at the screen, not moving a muscle.

"See? You're faking it.

"You stop copying when it comes down to it."

As I stood frozen, Carter and Tiffany let out a sneer.

"Forget about her, darling. I'll take you to the mall and replace every old piece in your wardrobe, alright?"

"I'll come along too."

"Me too. You love it when I pick out clothes for you."

Bentley raised his arm to volunteer himself.

At last, London's tears turned into a smile.

She turned to me with a smirk.

The family walked out together with London.

Tiffany's voice drifted to my ears.

"Terry's not going to hold this against us when he gets back, will he?"

"We have to show her who's boss, or she'll keep faking it! Just leave her. I doubt she'd actually go through with killing herself."

"Once Gramps and Nan figure out it's all an act, they'll hate her just as much as we do."

They had no idea.

The only reason keeping me from copying the video was simply because I couldn't figure out how the knot was tied.

I observed for a bit until it clicked.

The rope was now coiled around my throat.

I dropped my weight down.

Tiffany lowered her gaze at the cut strawberries sprinkled on top. She hurriedly passed the cake to her assistant in the back and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I just wanted to make it a little sweeter for you." Bentley squeezed a smile. "Kylie, we know we messed up. We're a family. Can you let us in, please?" Carter nodded. "That's right, Kylie. We've gotten rid of London. "We even forced her to change back to her original surname. She won't be coming back. "I miss you, Kylie." Carter teared up. "Just let me inside to take a good look at you, please?" "You should leave." Ruby came forward. She took the receiver from my hand. Carter panicked. "Mom, Kylie is a copycat!"If she takes over the family business, our business rivals can easily use her vulnerability against her!" Tiffany gave a firm nod. "That's right, Mom. What if a competitor pretends to jump off a building right in front of her? We'd lose a leader." Ruby let out a scoff

"Kylie!" Terry and Ruby bolted to the window in a panic. Two pairs of hands gripped my arms desperately. The bodyguards swarmed forward. They worked together, hauling me back over the windowsill. The projector kept playing the footage. Ruby whipped her head back. Smack! Ruby slapped Bentley hard across the face. "You saw through it all, but you played dumb anyway." Bentley pursed his lips. Color vanished from London's cheeks. Terry narrowed his eyes at the rest of the family. "Effective immediately, all inheritance rights to the Fleet Group will go to Kylie. "Jordan, draft the papers now." "What?" Carter and Tiffany snapped their heads up. "Mom, Dad, Kylie is just a child. She's too young to handle such a massive responsibility." Carter rushed up in a fluster. He wanted to talk Terry and Ruby into rescinding the instruction. However, Terry merely swatted his arm away. "Kylie is just a child, but Ruby and I still have plenty of life left in us!

Bentley froze when he saw me sitting on the floor with my clothes in disarray. Though Bentley didn't see me as his sister, he was still stunned to walk into a room full of men and a girl whose mind wasn't in the right place. Worse yet, Bentley had explicitly warned these very men to stay away from London before. "What's keeping London? It's time for her to make her birthday wish." Tiffany's voice drew close. Then came Carter's. "Right, get her here. Mom and Dad are here too. They couldn't find Kylie anywhere, so we'd need to head out and search for her—" The words died in Carter's throat. Carter and Tiffany's eyes snapped to the explicit footage playing on the screen. They saw me still tugging at the buttons of my clothes. It was at that moment they flew into a rage. Tiffany rushed to turn off the projector. Carter struck me across the face. "You shameless disgrace! Of all the things you could've learned. Why must you mimic filth? "You're not a copycat. I re

Bentley stared at the somewhat messy room. Then, his gaze fell on London, who hadn't changed out of her clothes. He was taken aback. "I thought you wanted to put something else on?" "Haha. Nah, I changed my mind." London stepped forward and nudged Bentley out. "I'll just blow out the candles and make a wish in this dress." "That's strange. I definitely heard a man's voice in here just now." "Bentley!" London put her hands on her hips. "Are you doubting me?" Bentley broke into a smile. "I'd never. I just don't want some sleazy guy to fool you." "Hmph! No guy is going to stand a chance with you looking out for me." London pouted, her arms crossed against her chest. "If anyone wants to steal my heart, they'd have to be better than you."Bentley was delighted by her flattery. He dropped the subject of the noise. Just before he led London out of there, a loud crash of breaking glass echoed from the back room. Bentley stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes

When the hood was yanked off my head, several sleazy-looking men checked me out lewdly in a sprawling space. "Kylie, didn't you say that you mimic everything?" London snapped her fingers. A vile, explicit video was played on the massive screen. I covered my eyes right away. London grabbed my head and forcibly turned it toward the screen, trying to make me look."Watch this. Isn't copying your thing? "You have no problem taking your life, so this must be easy for you." With all my strength, I desperately tried to escape. However, the bodyguards held my head firmly in place. I was forced to face the huge screen. My heart beat out of my chest. London held the camera high. "Kylie, do you think those old farts would let you disgrace the family name? "Will they still jump to your defense?" My breath hitched. "London, this is a crime.""It's fine. Mom, Dad, and Bentley will cover for me." The Fleets had chosen the perfect name for London. They'd raised her

"Do you think we'd startle Kylie by showing up unannounced?" Ruby's voice drifted through the door. Terry chuckled. "No, she won't. It's a nice surprise." The door swung open. The smiles on Terry and Ruby's faces vanished. "Kylie!" They lunged toward me to undo the rope around my neck. I held a tight grip around the rope, blocking them from taking it off. My bloodshot eyes were fixed on the screen. Ruby quickly put two and two together. She rushed over to cut the power to the screen. "Who put this here? Where are Bentley and the others?" Terry scrambled to grab the scissors and snipped the rope above me. I fell hard on the ground. Foam spilled from my lips. Soon enough, I was wheeled into the emergency room. Once I came to, Terry and Ruby were furious. Carter and Tiffany hung their heads low. They didn't say a word. Bentley blurted, "I was only joking around. How was I supposed to know that she'd go through with it? "Even medical professionals
