IVETTE.

As Sloan stormed out the thud of the door reverberated throughout the room a brutal punctuation mark to his fury. My throat was burning and raw as I lay crumpled on the floor gasping. My body was racked by a fit of hacking coughs and every shaky breath was a searing pain.

He had just established his terrifying dominion in my sitting room and the lavish details were obscured by my tears. I finally pushed myself up my legs shaking under me with a Herculean effort that seemed out of proportion to the simple act. Every muscle erupted in dissent. The mark of his fingers was still burning against my skin and my neck ached.

The sheer force the sheer audacity! My hands were shaking so badly that I almost fumbled the handle as I staggered over to my covertly concealed refrigerator. With shaky fingers I took out a bottle of cold water and pulled the cap off bringing it to my lips.

The cool liquid helped to relieve my sore throat but it spluttered onto the Persian rug after a sudden i

IVY. I heard the door behind him click softly and the ensuing quiet was more deafening than any noise. It was a deafening silence that engulfed me. I was by myself. The space now felt like a gilded cage whereas moments before it had felt so exquisite and lovely. After Sloan left there was a physical ache and a void in the air where he had been. In an attempt to keep my quivering body together I pulled my knees up to my chest and encircled myself with my arms. Previously a quiet stream the tears now flowed down my cheeks in a hot stinging torrent. My silent sobs were so strong that my shoulders trembled. I bit my lip tightly in an attempt to suppress the sound of my heartbreak so that it wouldn't reverberate throughout the room. All of it was excessive. Too much responsibility, too much fear and too much knowledge. My entire world had just been torn apart at the seams due to a sequence of events that I still dont fully comprehend. I just wanted to get back. I missed the simple rhy

  • Corrupt Temptation   CHAPTER 131: Awakening and Shock

IVY The oppressive silence was the first thing that caught my attention. For a place that was supposed to feel like home, the thick heavy silence was much too profound. The back of my skull pulsed with a dull throbbing ache which was a physical representation of the mental haze that persisted. Glimmers of me taking a shower and a sense of being lost and confused were all part of my memories which felt like broken glass. It was similar to awakening from a fever with your thoughts a jumble of half-forgotten dreams and the surroundings familiar but distant. I forced myself to stand up slowly my muscles groggy and uncooperative. The gentle glow of the morning sun streamed into the room through the thick drapes. Even though it was a lovely calm and elegant room it wasnt mine. The last traces of sleep vanished as a wave of anxiety swept across my chest. The last clear memory I have was going into the bathroom and taking a shower. What had happened? Why was I here? Then nothing happene

  • Corrupt Temptation   CHAPTER 130: The Reckoning

IVETTE As I slipped back into my room the cold of the hallway held on to me but it was nothing in comparison to the ice that had begun to form in my veins. With the final conclusive period at the end of my defeat sentence the door clicked shut. My hands clenched into tight fists as the rage and fear a poisonous mixture of emotions started to bubble up before I had even crossed the threshold. It felt like a prison with its immaculate white walls and opulent furnishings. I felt imprisoned, surrounded by an unanticipated situation a barrier that was both unavoidable and unjust. My only release was to pace frantically against the plush carpet. With each step the manic energy that was building inside of me was released in a silent scream. My mind had changed from a chaotic kaleidoscope to a harsh icy tool of reasoning. I was now a hunter glaring down an impossibly difficult prey not a silent observer. My exquisite painstaking plan. It had been so understated yet sophisticated. Make him

IVETTE. The only sounds in the sterile silence of the mansion’s hallway were the nurses slow steady footsteps and the distant hum of machinery. The mansion was enveloped in an uncomfortable silence an unnatural stillness that pervaded the atmosphere. The silence kept me awake despite my best efforts to fall asleep and ignore the residual anxiety from sloan.Something wasn't right. Not only was it silent but the air held its breath in anticipation. With a gentle click I closed the door behind me and slipped out of my room giving up on the illusion of rest. I felt a nervous energy driving me down the hall my heart pounding frantically against my ribs. With my feet making no sound on the cool tile floor I moved like a ghost. I came to a complete stop as I turned the corner. Outside Sloan's office, Sloan was there standing with a doctor. His shoulders were hunched in a position of extreme concentration as he spoke softly facing away from me. The doctor who I had seen before listened w

SLOAN.The only sound in the silent room was the hum of the machine’s, a steady rhythmic pulse. It was a reassuring sound a confirmation that life was going on her heart was beating and everything would be okay. or that the immediate threat was no longer present. Ivy was still in a deep sound sleep induced by the sedative the doctor had prescribed and fatigue. Her face was softly illuminated by a golden glow from the dimmed overhead lights. I sat next to the bed and repeatedly stroked her long soft hair with my hand. She was at ease in this tiny peaceful harbor but my world was still in disarray like a ship tossed on a turbulent sea. But I had a whirlpool of thoughts. Two months pregnant. The words were a permanent mark that had abruptly altered everything a brand etched into my mind. I felt a wave of emotions that were too complex to sort out as I gazed at her who was so serene and lovely. Naturally the core of it was love but it was entangled with anxiety perplexity and a crippl

SLOAN.Amid the sterile silence of the room, my heart pounded against my ribs like a desperate chaotic drum solo. Each second seemed to drag on forever and every tick of the wall clock felt like a hammer blow. A pale frail doll with an IV drip attached, Ivy lay motionless on the gurney. A new wave of terror swept through me as the doctor a man with weary eyes and a steady hand moved around her with urgency. He wasn't telling me what the tests he was conducting were for. The only information he provided was that her abrupt breakdown was caused by acute stress which to be honest told me nothing and everything at once. Squeaking on the linoleum floor I paced the length of the room in my old sneakers. Take one step take two and then turn. First one then two then a turn. Even though the exercise was useless the movement managed to prevent the worst of my panic. However my thoughts were a wild train. Every situation from the commonplace to the disastrous was in my mind. an easy viral inf
