Chapter 2

Author: Ethereal Realm
Liam got back just after I unplugged the USB drive.

"Sabrina!"

Liam's coldness had killed all my warm feelings for him.

I told him I had a stomachache and pushed him away. Even though it was a lie, he was super worried.

He picked me up, tucked me into bed, got me some warm water, and found some medicine. "You always forget to look after yourself when I'm not here."

He looked at me, and I could tell he was distraught by how pale I was.

I did not say anything and just acted like I was not feeling well. Liam rubbed my stomach to try to soothe it. I was not sure how much time had passed when I was about to fall asleep. Suddenly, I heard a message come in. Liam checked it immediately without thinking.

"Liam, I can't find my underwear.

"You can't just take them because you like them! I still need to wear them."

The message suddenly cut off. Liam froze, looking over at me with a scared expression.

After he noticed I was not reacting, he let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Holding his phone tightly, he stepped out onto the balcony. "Didn't I tell you not to contact me anytime soon?"

Wendy's voice was whiny and sweet, trying to lure him in. "You've ruined so many pairs, and I haven't had a chance to buy new ones...

"Do I have to deal with everything without any help?"

Liam's breathing grew heavy and fast. "Just wait. I'll bring some over tomorrow."

I gripped the sheets, my tears dampening the pillow.

I kept whispering to myself, 'It's going to be okay. Just seven more days, and I'll be free.'

After that, Liam could search high and low, but he would never find me.

With that thought, I drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up to find a bowl of cereal on my nightstand.

Liam was sitting by the bed, gently touching the redness under my eyes.

"Did it hurt a lot last night? Your eyes are all puffy from crying."

He tried to feed me with a spoon, but I turned my face away, not wanting his touch.

A message popped up on Liam's phone, giving me an out.

He quickly covered the screen with his hand, but I managed to catch a glimpse.

[I'm in the bar bathroom. You have fifteen minutes.]

Liam's anger started to show, and he slammed his phone down hard.

"Sabrina, there's a bit more to do for the last job.

"I promise it won't get in the way of your birthday."

I knew all about our team's missions.

There was nothing left to finish.

His Adam's apple bobbed, a sign he was worked up.

Seeing how he could not sit still, I pushed down my disgust.

"Go. You've got important things to do."

He rushed off, only saying, "Wait for me. I'll be back soon."

I knew all too well that he did not want to leave the comfort of the bed he shared with Wendy.

For the next three days, he hardly came home at night.

It was the perfect chance for me to work on the video.

Right after I finished editing it, Wendy sent me a message: [He told me he was going to bake you a birthday cake, but he got cream all over me instead.]

[You don't mind, right?]

Then, a video came through.

Liam was making a mess with the cream.

I ignored it and pulled up the countdown on my system.

I had to drink some strong grown-up juice to calm my nerves.Liam was like a shadow in this world, with no papers to prove who he was. I thought that meant he would be dealt with quickly. However, I was wrong about him.Being a shadow actually made it easier for him to move around. On my birthday, he was waiting outside my building with a strawberry cake."Sabrina, I made this strawberry cake just for you."I held my car keys really tightly and did not say a word.Liam smelled like he had been in a terrible fight, and it was gross. He looked a little sorry when he noticed."I'm sorry, Sabrina. I had to go back to doing some bad things."I know I told you I'd quit. It's my fault, and you can be mad at me all you want..."But you can't get away from me again."He was acting really intensely and scarily. My heart was pounding hard, and I was sweating from being so nervous.I tried to call for help, but my fingers would not work.Liam's eyes got all red as he asked me, "I we

Time sure did fly by. My birthday was just around the corner.About a week ago, the agent told me someone wanted to see my old place.I glanced at the reports in my hand and felt a bit bad as I said, "Could you show them around? I'll be there soon."When I got to the apartment, the buyer stormed out, pale and angry."This place is a mess! How could you even think of selling it?"They stomped off, and the agent who came out after them gave me a strange look."Are you trying to mess with me?"I just can't sell this place for you."I was confused and went inside.Right there in the doorway, a woman lay naked on the floor. She was covered in black words from head to toe.I had to look really close to see the names 'Sabrina' and 'Sabrina Lynch' written on her skin. The woman was breathing hard and slowly looked up at me with a face I knew too well.It was Wendy."What are you doing here?!"She glared at me with a weird expression.I got the shivers and asked her loudly, "Wha

Liam stared in amazement at the vanishing villa, tears of happiness streaming down his face."It's all possible... Everything's possible!"Sabrina, I promise I'll apologize to you face-to-face!"I dismissed the screen with an icy wave of my hand, not sticking around to see Liam's next move.He dragged Wendy down to the apartment's basement.Wendy was frightened, her face ghostly white as she huddled up in a corner.Liam tied her up tightly, his voice dark and scary. "You wanted to be wild? Well, now you'll get more than you bargained for."He brought down all the props he had used before with Wendy, as well as a bunch of new ones, and did not stop making her life miserable. Wendy cried and begged until she could not even speak."You think I didn't know you were in cahoots with the Ghost?" Liam asked softly.Wendy shook all over, staring at him, terrified."You were the one who ran into him when he came to grab someone from the apartment. You gave away our address and the pass

When I came back to the real world, the system should have let go on its own.It was just my luck that I got stuck with a trainee system that could not cut ties between me and the mission world completely.Liam had lost it, writing letter after letter that made no sense. He kept buying things and saying they were for me. "Sabrina loves it when I wear this," he said to himself, looking really tired. He printed out a picture and signed my name on it. In a flash, the picture turned into a mess of numbers and letters and vanished."You like the river, so I got a house there," he said."Sabrina, it's yours."He almost went crazy trying to put my name on the house papers, but the salesperson at the office stopped him."Sir, you can't give a house to someone who isn't real."Liam got so mad that he flipped a table and started yelling at the sales office."What are you talking about?! Sabrina is real!"She's my fiancee, the woman I love the most!"However, he could not show any proo

Liam held his breath, his nails digging into his palm until blood poured out.The memories swirling in his head were so painful that he felt like he could not bear it.He had nearly forgotten about his Sabrina too. With a shattered sigh, the vase that had disappeared was suddenly back on the coffee table, just like before.Liam looked at the vase with a heavy heart, his voice rough and chilling."You're back..."Sabrina, you'll come back like this too, won't you?"There were so many things coming through to me that I did not even notice the tissue box was strange. When the system rebooted, it told me it could not erase my memories.[Liam's obsession with the host is at Level 99. Memory wipe is not possible.]I scowled, annoyed, thinking that this was like a bad dream that would not end.[People from other worlds can't break through the barrier, can they?]The system had promised that before. Now, it was clear the system was a mess and not to be trusted. The system did not

"The patient who's been in a coma for ages is awake!""It's a medical miracle!"Doctors swarmed around my bed. After a lot of fussing, I finally got to breathe.Once I knew I was all healed from the car crash, I got ready to leave the hospital. When I pushed open my front door, which had been closed for so long, a stale smell greeted me.However, what was even more disturbing were the things in my house that should not have been there."System, why are there items from the mission world here?"I looked around and saw 'Sabrina Lynch's' documents. There was a household registration, a diploma, and even my jewelry designs and hacker gear. Those things had just popped up messily on the coffee table.[The system is cleaning up the things you left in the mission world.]I was annoyed and just chucked everything into the trash.I could not be bothered to deal with it all, so I complained to the system's customer service. At the same time, Liam had a tight grip on Wendy's neck.
