~Ronan's Pov~

I was here for two reasons. First: it was my son's engagement party, and as his father, I needed to be here. Second: I hadn't seen my best friend since I got back from France, and he wasn’t having any of it when he practically arranged this engagement party.

My boy, Mavis, stood beside me, nodding to the guests as they trooped into Calder's home. I wondered if he even knew what he was doing. Don’t get me wrong, the friendship between Calder and me is pretty tight, but I didn’t expect him to propose marriage to Calder’s daughter.

The girl is a bitch—even I would agree.

"The prodigal man shows himself." I turned to the voice, and my eyes met Calder. My friend approached me with a slow grin spread across his lips.

"I have to be here. It is an important occasion after all."

"It's been long, man. How long has it been? Six or seven?"

"Eleven," I corrected him. Eleven years of focus on myself. Eleven years of punishment to myself.

Calder stood beside me. "I am glad you made it," he said, his voice sounding like he wanted to say more but refrained. I wouldn't blame him, though. Everyone was worried when I left; my pack especially. While Calder is the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack in Orlando, Florida, I am the Alpha of the RedMoon Pack in New York. That is my domain, and everyone knows it. As a shifter, I rule and lead my pack.

New York bows down to me, and unlike some books one might read about the human and wolf world, it is quite different in our world. The werewolves are situated in Florida (Orlando, Tampa, Miami), while the shifters, like us, who can shift at any time regardless of the moon, are situated in New York. Both packs are united but have one enemy.

"So…where is the bride-to-be?"

Calder chuckled slightly. "She's upstairs with her mother. Mavis can go check on her if he wants to. I'm sure she wouldn't mind."

I turned to my son, who stood with a smile on his face, his dimples showing on both sides. His ears reddened, and he looked down, avoiding my gaze.

"Excuse me," he said and walked out.

"I am so glad both our children are getting married. This would be perfect."

Tell me about it. I knew how much Calder wanted this marriage. In fact, from the moment Mavis was born, he wanted both our children to end up together.

I didn't, but of course, I wouldn't say that out loud. That wouldn't be nice. After we greeted the guests, we moved into the party to socialize. Because of the event, many neighboring packs attended the party. The mansion was filled with so many people. I thought this was supposed to be a small gathering with friends.

I motioned to the server when my hands froze mid-air. My eyes watched as she took slow steps down the stairs, her hair cascading down, moving alongside her.

She is beautiful—the complete epitome of that. Her eyes searched the crowd, and when they landed on me, it was like I forgot how to breathe. No one had ever evoked this kind of feeling from me in years.

Her expression turned sour instantly, and she picked up her pace, coming down the stairs. I tilted my head and studied her as she approached. What a feisty little thing.

She got closer, walking so fast her hair fell to the side of her round cheeks. It looks like she has a thing for me after all. Good.

She paused in front of me, and it was then I noticed who she was staring at, Calder, who was standing beside me this whole time.

"Father," she said, tucking her red hair behind her ear.

Father? Did I just hear that correctly?

"You came down. I thought you were going to disappoint me again," Calder said, giving her a reprimanding look.

"How would I miss the best event of the year?" Anyone could hear her sarcasm in those words.

Wait…what about the 'father' part? The only daughter I know Calder has is that bitch Ruby. Or am I missing something?

"You called, and I answered," she said, glancing at me before shifting her gaze back to Calder.

"I would like you to meet my friend, Alpha Ronan. You may have heard about him? The Alpha of RedMoon Pack."

She glanced back at me again and nodded before turning to look at her father. Why is my heart beating loudly all of a sudden?

"I didn't know there was another daughter, Calder."

He laughed. "There is. I will tell you all about it. Anyssa came to live with us some years ago. She's just a mistake from a drunken night I had with her pathetic mother some years back."

As Calder spoke, Anyssa flinched from his words, but she smiled instead. It was interesting, really. She knew how to mask her emotions, but if you looked closely, you could see how angry she was.

"She's currently in UCF, and I need her to intern in your company."

What?

"Repeat that."

Calder turned to look at me. "I want her to intern in your company in New York. At least that would keep her head straight.”

~ Ronan's Pov ~“What should I do now?” I asked Calder as he took a seat on the chair in front of me.“She wants to know about her past, and I need to tell her. I already feel guilty for lying to her about it.”“Didn't the doctor say you should give it time?”“You don't understand, Calder.”“I do. I understand as much as you do. This is my daughter I'm talking about, yet you wonder why I'm so calm about the situation. I do want her to get better. I do want her to get her memories back, but if those memories would hurt her, I'd rather not do it.”I can't sit. I can't rest. For days, I've thought this through. After what happened at Willow Creek, I'm too scared to keep this from her.“I know it's hurting you, but you have to think about it. Not telling her is the logical thing to do. Plus, the last time you did, you know what happened. Have you even talked to the doctor about this?”“I have,” I sighed. “She said she wouldn't really know if she's ready for her memories or not. It must co

~ Anyssa's Pov ~I was pregnant? I couldn't respond to the bomb he had just dropped on me. For some reason, my mouth could barely open. I was still in shock.“How many?” I finally asked. He took a deep breath before responding. “Three. They were triplets.”Three babies?I had three babies, and now I have lost them? How?I didn't say a word. I just held his hand, and we walked around the park. I noticed children running around with their toys, their parents picking them up off the ground when they fell. The smiles on their faces whenever they played with sand or came down a slide. Willow Creek looked like a normal park, which had a children's side and an adult side.Yet it felt homely. Yes, I did feel a pang in my chest from watching them. Somehow, it felt like that should be me watching my own child run around with sand in her or his shoes.Honestly, I usually wouldn't think about children because I had always made up my mind that starting a family wasn't something I would love.Growi

~ Ronan's Pov ~I got out of the car, and one of my security guys, Allen, ran toward me the moment I stepped out.The worry on his face was alarming.“Boss,” he said.“What's the matter?”“We think there might be a fire outbreak inside the house or some other problem. We've been trying to reach Madame inside, but she's not answering.”“What do you mean you think?” I didn't wait for him to respond. I rushed to the door.I opened it, and smoke filled the whole room. The alarm was blaring, but there was no fire.“Anyssa! Nyssa!” I shouted her name, trying to locate her. I mean, I could barely see shit through the smoke—it stung my eyes.God, she should be okay. Please, she should be okay. My heart hammered in my chest from fear. If nothing else, I wanted her to be conscious. What the fuck even happened?I coughed, still shouting her name, until I spotted a small figure in the smoke. It was Nyssa, holding a tray filled with what looked like burnt cookies. She had a nose mask on, and her c

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 80: Flashes

~ Anyssa's Pov ~My bed felt wet, and I could feel hands crawling…latching onto my neck. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't move. I tried to open my mouth to scream, but all that came out was a whispered cry.Suddenly, images flashed through my memories: blood…tears…me, crying. Dead bodies and swift flashes again. I moved my legs, trying as hard as I could to escape my own head. What the fuck was even happening to me?I tried to cry for help—maybe then I would wake up from this dream. When it felt like I was swimming in a bottomless pit, I awoke. Heat spread across my chest; my bed was soaked. My heart raced, thumping inside my chest as I breathed heavily. The room was dark, the air conditioning on, but I still felt too heated. I switched on the night lamp beside the bed, trying to count my breaths. What was that about? And what were those flashes? Could they truly be my memories?I tried to steady my breaths, got out of bed, and left my room. A cold glass of water would help right now. I

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 79: Promises under the rain

~ Ronan’s POV ~This meeting was by far the worst I had ever had. Why did I even fucking attend it?I checked my wristwatch again, groaning when I figured out I had two long hours left. I had promised to take Nyssa out to the movies, and I wouldn't go back on my promises now.I stood up, about to leave, when Cosmos called out.“What's the rush, Mr. King?”“I have to take my wife to a special place today.”“Oh, I didn't know she was awake. With that kind of coma, I'm guessing one would suffer from temporary amnesia.”I hated Cosmos. He had always had this idea that he was better than everyone. Maybe the masters in medicine and two honors in business made him think that way.“I don't see how that's any of your business, Cosmos.”He smiled. “I apologize. I don't mean to be rude.”“Good.”I didn't wait for any more talk as I dashed out of the boardroom. Fuck this meeting anyway.By the time I got home, it had started raining. Nyssa stood by the entrance, an umbrella clutched to her breasts

~ Anyssa's Pov ~This sucks, I thought as once again I stared at the ceiling in my room. I woke up this morning feeling determined and brave enough to go explore my home–a home that felt both familiar and strange. Now, to no surprise to anyone, I still was in my said room, unable to bring myself to cross the door.Chanel gave me a soft look. “You don't have to beat yourself up like this ma'am.”“Is it that obvious?” I asked, turning to look at her properly.“You have been sighing and huffing for some time now.”Damn.“No one is giving you a deadline or anything like that,” she continued, arranging my clothes as she spoke. “You just have to take it easy and not rush the healing process.”“What if my memories never come back? What if staying cooped up here is making the process longer?” I sighed. “I wish I wasn't so fucking afraid.”She paused and stared at me for a while. “Have you ever thought about what you're afraid of?”I blinked. Of course I've thought about it. I have had nothin
