LOGINMy heart involuntarily started beating faster as I drew closer to where I had found my ma– the strange wolf.
“I hope he's still there. His naked incredible physique…” I muttered shamelessly, feeling my face burn up. I had covered him with what I could find, else any other female wolf in the area would lose their mind, although I was certain that there was no other wolf around. I had left him alone to go find father. I didn’t know how he was going to feel about me taking a wolf home. I knew nothing about him and taking him back home could still be dangerous. I hadn’t taken more than three steps before my sensitive ears picked up the sounds of his slow but steady heartbeat. I turned around and saw his unconscious figure lying faced up, just the way I had left him. I got to work immediately. pounding, squeezing, and mixing different leaves and roots masterfully to produce a potion that could temporarily neutralize the effect of whatever poison he had come in contact with. “There is only so much the piece of cloth I tied above your wounds would do. It was a matter of time before the poison got to your heart.” I muttered, fast and careful with the process. “Ngh…” I heard a weak moan. My eyes suddenly diverted back to him as alarm bells rang in my head. ‘What is he thinking trying to get up? How could he even be awake right now!’ I screamed in my head as I rushed towards him, gently pushing his back to his lying position. “Hey, listen to me, sir,” I said, almost in a whisper, my voice quivering. “Relax and don't try to get up, okay? You can hurt yourself if you decide to move some more…” I wasn't sure if it was because he heard me but his body became still. Too still, I had to check for his pulse again. ‘He’s still in danger…’ I muttered deeply, my chest heaving. The clock was against me, so I rushed back to continue with his drugs. It took me everything to maintain my composure as I prepared. As a little clear liquid started to appear in the mixture, I smiled, grinding the herbs more vigorously this time. It was a sign that the medicine would be ready soon. ‘Done!’ I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, as my shoulders relaxed. Looking at the jelly-like texture of it, anyone would be unimpressed, but I knew this nine-herb recipe of mine would have this man ready to help himself to my home in no time. “Hey, I'll just…” I loosened the bandage as my nose twitched at the sight and stench. Burning the poison at the surface after I took his pain clearly did little about the damage. The black veins running up his wounds were a testament that the deadly infection and rot still lived rent-free in his body. “Well, not for long…” I thought aloud and began applying. I was generous with the remedy for each injury. His veins bulged, I could hear the grinding of his teeth from where I stood. Objectively I could say… “It looks painful enough for him. It should be working…” Seconds turned to minutes and minutes. He had stopped wriggling in pain, and I knew it was time to get home. “Hey, can you hear me?” I called out to him, observing cold fumes escape my lips. ‘Yeah, we definitely need to go…’ The temperature in the forest was dropping fast as it approached nighttime. I could hear a distant howl which only made me work faster in trying to get him up. “Rya?” Finally! Father! I turned to him and saw that his eyes had moved to the almost naked man on the ground. “Uhm,” I didn’t want to tell him that it was my mate. “That’s…” I didn’t even know his name. “He’s injured. We have to help him.” “I told you. No wolves!” I let out a deep sigh. He never told me the reason for such rules. “Please…” We both turned to see that it was the wolf. He was standing now, but he still looked so weak and I felt even worse, knowing that he was my mate. “Father, please. Let’s just..I can’t just leave him.” It took a while before he finally agreed and helped carry him home. As soon as we got home, I went to work immediately. For the antidote to work, he had to eat. I thought about him while I cooked and as soon as I was done, I went to my father's room where he was. Father wanted to know more about him and why he was in the woods. I was about to knock when I heard something that made me stop. “…..renowned for her healing abilities. Dr. Rya Velas.” He was talking about me! I heard my father speak, but I couldn’t hear what he said. I pressed my ear to the door. “….need to save my father. Only she can do that.” He sounded like he was sad. He must really want to meet me and he must’ve come from far away. “But you wouldn’t tell me who you really are! I’m sorry. I can’t help you.” Father blurted out. My heart raced. My mate needed me. And for some reason, his voice was familiar! I burst into the room and gasped. My skin prickled with goosebumps and not for the right reasons. My father was speaking, but my attention had switched. It was now on those eyes. Those same shades of blue I had seen on that day. “W-what Pack do you belong to and why are you here? How did you end up so injured?” My questions came in quick succession, much to my own surprise as well. I took a measured step backward, though it was close to impossible for the strange man to miraculously launch at me. I felt him spare me a glance through the ghostly moonlight that escaped the cracks in my house. His breathing was still labored, and he was visibly struggling to answer... Turning his head as the moonlight catches his face. I froze. "Silverfang!" Arthur whispered in the dark. His voice was cold. I felt my whole world coming apart. I staggered back, my back pressed against the wall as memories flooded my mind. My eyes met his cold ones that had looked down on me from his throne on the day I was unjustly sentenced to death. My insides overturned as I mumbled beneath my breath… “Frost? The Crowned Prince?!” The same person I had been accused of poisoning, the same person I swore to the goddess to kill for taking my position as the Duskborn heir.Rya's POVFor what would seem like a brief moment, I took over from Frost while he was away. It felt... good to be on the ruling affairs of the pack one more time. There was this sensation that travelled down my body, this... familiarity, this certain feeling. I just couldn't define it. It was bittersweet, mixed, almost as though I revisited the days when even the slightest thing robbed me of my peace.Even in his absence, I didn't want his vision of his summit to die. The premonition I had about him the previous night had even fueled me more to keep on with the planning. I was still in the study when a slight knock on the door pulled me away from my train of thoughts. I looked up, and behold, it was Sera. "Sera!" her name slipped from my lips in sheer surprise. It had been the longest time since I saw her. She looked so... different, so unlike her. Living in exile must have robbed her off the brightness and shine which she effortlessly exuded. She looked worn out, uncertain, iso
Frost's POVA thousand options I had considered since I learnt that the barriers would fall. But only one really stuck, piercing, consistent. It was a radical one, but all rounds of my logical thinking had circled around it.I had learnt weeks ago that the barrier which kept the Void away for many centuries before the present time was raised by the collaborative act of the leaders of the various worlds. How did it skip past my thinking that the same method used then could have still been the same to leave a long lasting result on the world today? How did we substitute united hearts for just joint artifacts?I had the chance to make it right again. If only supernatural beings spent years in building unity rather than fighting against themselves, then they could face the Void's return as a united force rather than fragmented enemies. Or so I thought!Yet, in all of my travels to seek alliance with supernatural beings, their responses were... mixed, with most opposing the very thing I en
Rya's POV Life should have been perfect now. With all the wars fought and won, I finally should have lived in the very life I had prayed for endlessly—the kind that was a bed of roses, the kind where I awoke to fresh new days buttered with peace of mind and absolute serenity in the werewolf territory. Yet each new day only seemed like a bitter version of chaos. There were people... ardent disciples who still worshipped the Void even in its non-existence. Their hopes and faith had driven them mad, forced them to take up arms and swing into deadly actions which they believed could free the Void for the umpteenth time. They launched their attacks first on the werewolf territories. They were systematic, targeting those with weaker leadership and defenses. But I was willingly to put an end to such ruthless and fruitless massacre.I led the SilverFang forces against these cultists, intercepting the just before they could lay waste to another defenseless pack. I didn't have my Alpha au
Frost's POV"Can you hear me, Rya?" I whispered through the mind link. The distance between us had caused some kind of strain to our communication. Still, I could hear her. "I'm in position," she answered in a whispering tone. "I can see them, all of them.""Ready when you're ready," I answered.I had my men positioned right behind me, awaiting Rya's signal. This act, this mission, was sensitive in a whole lot of ways. If there was even a slight misstep, or an act out of scheduled timing, then we could end up like the ones we had set out to trap—on our knees, pleading for mercy. And so I stood vigilant, with my eyes scanning through the landscape, on the best way to storm that meeting hall. There was complete silence from Rya. It was almost as though I had lost my connection with her. It was like that for almost half an hour, not until she let out a frustrating groan through the mindlink, the kind that jolted me from the ground. "Oh gods!" I heard her say, followed by a hiss and a
Rya's POVI didn't know how, but I had that confidence that Oscar and Lia would find me all the information that I needed. It wasn't up to a full day since I mentioned my fears to Lia, and she had returned bearing what would seem like pleasant news. I had been in my study room all morning. WIth less tasks on my hands, and nothing really heavy to make my mind spiral in pondering thoughts, I bought my time with flipping through more pages of historical books judiciously. I was half way through the very book that interested me most when Lia stormed into the room. I could feel the urgency in her steps even though her face had masked it perfectly. I looked up at her, a bit startled, but mostly puzzled. "Come with me. There's something I want you to see," she said to me coldly. I had never seen her in such a demeanor... wearing such terrifying countenance. I could almost hear Oscar's voice through hers, but had washed the thoughts off my head when I sighted her figure and heard the light
Rya's POVI had not been neglected after all. My pride was still secured—intact, well laced on my shoulders as though nothing had ever happened. I still received the respect... the honour, just as before, but not exactly as before. It had been a month since I was crowned as Luna of the SilverFang pack, and for one who had stepped down from a position with the greatest authority in the entire werewolf territory, another would expect that I bowed my head in shame, or think of where I found myself to be as a downgrade... a fall from grace. But I was most satisfied with where I was. I finally had the chance to just... breathe, to live, to have lightened shoulders, to sleep without rethinking the events of the past or the future, to sit without having the pressing needs of the people weigh my spirit down. But most of all, when I turned my eyes to the man who now wore the crown, I still felt like the victor. I was at peace, knowing fully well that they people deserved a good man like him,
Rya's POVIn just one week, I had been able to right my wrongs. The people were willing and collaborative. I had taken a census of the first born sons and others who seemed fit enough for battle. There were a thousand who were willing to lay their lives down just to defend the pack and their famil
Lily's POV "Did you give him the potion?" I asked the nurse by my side. She was breathing heavily, her entire forehead beaded with sweat drops, and her hands shaking as though she had done something wrong. She looked... scared, terrified. "We... We struggled, but he drank the potion," she answer
Rya's POV Our fingers were intertwined as we walked out of the dungeon, swinging happily as we were somewhat new to this feeling. He never said a word, and neither did I. But the short glances we gave ourselves at intervals spoke louder than what words could quantify.I noticed the way he threw hi
Rya’s POVI stirred awake late in the night. I stared round and it was dark around me.
