The rain had turned into a steady, misting drizzle by the time the royal armored transport pulled into the hidden secondary courtyard of the Keep.

I jumped down from the high running board, clutching the waterproof pack tightly against my chest. My boots were caked in mud, and a minor scrape on my forearm was stinging from the climb down the ivy trellis, but my adrenaline was still buzzing at an all-time high.

Before I could even take two steps toward the side entrance, a massive shadow blocked the doorway.

Ethan practically lunged out of the hall, his eyes wide and burning with a fierce, frantic gold. He grabbed my shoulders with his massive hands, his grip tight enough to bruise as he pulled me into the light, his gaze sweeping over my face, my neck, and my arms.

"Are you hurt?" his deep voice rasped, heavy and breathless. "I heard Clara scream through the comms line. Did those enforcers touch you?"

I blinked, momentarily stunned by the sheer, unadulterated terror in his eyes. The terrifying Lycan King, who had brought a rogue Alpha to his knees with a single glance three hours ago, was currently trembling because I had a tiny scratch on my arm.

"I'm fine, Ethan," I said softly, gently placing my hand over one of his large wrists. "Clara is sleeping off a bump on the head, two guards are out cold, and I walked out the front balcony without a scratch."

Ethan let out a long, shuddering breath, his shoulders dropping as the golden fire in his eyes slowly receded back to warm amber. He didn't let go of my shoulders immediately. His thumb brushed over the smooth leather of my jacket, his gaze lingering on my lips for a heartbeat too long before he forced himself to step back.

"You're insane," he murmured, though a dark, proud smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "Brilliant, but completely insane."

"I prefer the term 'tactically efficient,'" I countered, unzipping my pack and pulling out the three thick, gold-embossed ledgers. "And I brought the prize."

Ten minutes later, we were gathered in the high-security subterranean strategy room.

Leo was sitting on a plush leather stool, sipping a glass of warm milk while his tiny fingers flew across his tablet, feeding high-resolution scans of the physical ledger pages into his optical recognition software.

"The financial records are quite sloppy," Leo commented, taking a small sip of milk. "Alpha Jaxon appears to have been running a classic double-entry bookkeeping fraud. He was underreporting his pack's monthly timber exports by forty percent to hide the revenue from raw silver sales."

"We knew he was smuggling," Ethan said, leaning over the glass conference table, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. "What we need is the destination. Who was buying the unrefined silver from him?"

I turned to the final ledger, flipping through the handwritten entries near the back. "Here. Look at the shipping manifest entries for the past eighteen months. Every shipment of silver ore was routed through an offshore holding company named Vanguard Logistics."

Ethan’s jaw went completely slack.

The room went dead silent. The warm, commanding presence around the King vanished, replaced by an icy, dangerous stillness that made the air in the room feel heavy enough to snap bone.

"Ethan?" I asked, looking up at him. "Do you know that company?"

"Vanguard Logistics isn't an offshore holding company," Ethan said, his voice dropping to a terrifying, deadly whisper. "It is a private supply defense contractor owned directly by the Royal Crown."

My eyes widened. "What?"

"Jaxon wasn't just smuggling silver out of his pack," Ethan growled, his knuckles turning white as he slammed his fist into the wooden table, cracking the polished edge. "He was selling it directly to someone inside my own council. Someone at the very top of the Royal Lycan High Guard is funding Jaxon's operation."

I looked at the ledger pages again, my strategist brain firing on all cylinders. "Which means Jaxon isn't just a corrupt Alpha trying to make a quick buck. He’s building a private army on your border, backed by a traitor in your own castle."

Leo adjusted his spectacles, pointing his small pen at the digital screen. "Correction, Mama. According to these encrypted routing numbers, the traitor in the Royal High Guard isn't just funding Jaxon—they have authorized a full tactical shipment of silver-tipped weaponry to cross the border during the summit this Thursday."

Ethan turned to look at me, his amber eyes burning with a dark, lethal resolve.

"They think they are walking into a routine diplomatic summit," Ethan murmured, a cold, ruthless smile spreading across his face. "They have no idea that the Omega they left for dead is holding the leash."

He reached across the table, taking my hand in his. This time, when the familiar electric spark snapped between our skin, neither of us pulled away.

"We don't just destroy Jaxon on Thursday, Shadow," Ethan whispered, his grip tightening gently around mine. "We take down the entire network."

I looked into the eyes of the Lycan King, feeling a fierce, dark thrill rush through my blood.

"Let's go burn a kingdom down," I said.

The journey back to the Royal Northern Keep took three days through the howling, snow-choked mountain passes of the Frost Ridge.Unlike our desperate subterranean infiltration into Fortress Kronos, our return was a slow, triumphant march. The twenty-four rescued border civilians were bundled in heavy bear-fur cloaks provided by Captain Kael’s rear guard, riding safely in the supply wagons. At the head of the column walked Ethan and me.The freezing northern wind howled across the white glaciers, biting through leather and iron, but Ethan’s hand wrapped around mine remained as warm as a lit furnace. He walked without his heavy royal mantle, his massive chest visible beneath his battle-torn tunic, his bare skin radiating the soft, golden warmth of his fully awakened Lycan bloodline.Beside us, Leo sat comfortably atop a tactical supply crate inside the lead wagon, wrapped in three layers of wolf-fur blankets, his glowing tablet held in his gloved hands as his small fingers tapped rh

The earth trembled beneath our boots as the subterranean foundation of Fortress Kronos began to implode.Thick columns of black smoke and roaring violet flames erupted into the night sky, tearing through the jagged, obsidian mountain peaks of the Southern Desert. The shockwaves of the dwarven charges detonating deep within the power core shattered the surrounding valley ridge, sending thousands of tons of stone cascading down like a dark, thunderous avalanche.I scrambled out from the drainage outlet at the base of the ridge, pulling Leo up onto the icy stone ledge behind me.My tactical armor was torn, covered in soot, wet mud, and dry blood. My right wrist throbbed with a dull, burning ache, but I barely felt it. I shoved my hair out of my eyes and spun around, staring up at the burning fortress courtyard five hundred yards above us."Ethan!" I screamed into the freezing night wind, my voice raw and desperate. "Ethan!"The comms channel was dead—melted into static by the massive voi

The air in the subterranean extraction chamber detonated into violence. The two Null-Guard captains charged down the iron walkway, their seven-foot-tall frames clad in heavy black void-armor that hummed with dark purple kinetic energy. The twin void-blades mounted to their gauntlets crackled with dark, anti-magic fire, leaving trails of black lightning in the humid air."Kael, get the civilians into the drainage tunnel! Move!" I shouted, dropping low into a tactical crouch as my mind instantly accelerated into combat calculation mode."Understood, Warden!" Kael roared, drawing his broadsword to cover the rear as the freed border wolves began scrambling back into the circular floor grate toward the underground exit shaft. The first Null-Guard captain leaped from the raised walkway, bringing a six-foot double-edged void-blade down toward my head with enough force to split a stone pillar in half.I didn't try to block it.I kicked off the slick stone floor, sliding directly between his o

The subterranean supply tunnel beneath the border ridges was cold, damp, and reeked of ancient rust and stale groundwater. For three miles, we moved in near-total silence through the pitch-black stone shaft, illuminated only by the faint, low-frequency red optical bands built into our tactical helmets. The water ran ankle-deep, splashing softly against our armored boots, carrying the faint, bitter metallic tang of unprocessed silver ore from the abandoned northern mining shafts above.I walked in the lead, my twin dwarven daggers drawn, sweeping the tunnel ahead with cold, methodical focus.Behind me, Ethan moved like a giant shadow—his towering frame taking up half the narrow stone corridor, his royal Lycan aura pulled tightly inward to avoid triggering the southern thermal sensors embedded in the rock walls. Captain Kael followed close behind, carrying our heavy breaching gear, while Leo walked in the center of our formation, his tablet sealed inside a waterproof tactical case mount

The peace was a fragile thing, brittle as winter ice under a heavy boot. For three days, the Royal Keep enjoyed an uncanny, quiet calm. The soot was scrubbed from the Grand Pavilion walls, the broken floor tiles were replaced with polished white marble, and the northern lords had returned to their respective territories under new, strict royal directives.I spent most of my mornings in the High Warden's office on the fifth floor of the Keep—a massive, vaulted room with floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over the entire snow-draped valley.I leaned over a heavy oak desk covered in digital schematics, supply manifests, and territorial maps of the eastern district. My dark dwarven tactical armor was half-unbuttoned at the collar, my twin blades resting on the edge of the desk beside a half-empty mug of black coffee."The eastern mines are operating at sixty percent capacity, Mama," Leo said, sitting in a velvet armchair near the window with a small tablet balanced on his knees

The mountain fog did not clear; it thickened, settling into the jagged crevasses of Iron-Pass like a heavy, cold shroud. The acrid stench of ozone, burnt alloy, and scorched stone hung thick in the night air, mingling with the bitter, sharp scent of pine from the lower ridges. The ruined courtyard of Outpost Four was quiet now, save for the rhythmic, metallic clinking of Captain Kael and his secondary royal guard detail securing the captured southern equipment.I stood at the edge of the shattered observation balcony, my hands resting lightly against the cold granite railing. My twin dwarven daggers were cleaned, oiled, and securely strapped back into their rib holsters. Below us, the vast expanse of the Southern Obsidian Desert stretched out beneath the bruised crimson sky, an endless ocean of rolling dunes hidden under dark, shifting clouds.A soft, heavy footstep sounded behind me.Ethan walked out onto the balcony, his tall, imposing frame blocking the biting wind. He had rem
